In Rick's "Are Characters Real..." Thread, discussing difficulties lead to some comments about our competitions.. We've taken a good long-ish time off.. but I don't think any of us are ready to jump into a looooong competition... So this is what I am going to suggest... "Suggest-A-Challenge" Now rules for the Suggest-A-Challenge.. 1) DiD or DWC ( DWC you have to state the ..parameters ) 2) You have to participate! 3) Short challenges.. ie one quest-line.. Nakked Nord race.. specific goal.. single dungeon 4) These can be thing's that work across games, but you have to make sure the rules are fair for all of them. 5) If it's impossible to complete.. state that you think the challenge is in doing not completing. Example in spoiler below... Dungeon Challenge Spoiler: click to toggle Just remember it's got to be fun and challenging! Edit: Let me know what y'all think! Edited by Areial, Sep 7 2017, 11:27 AM.

Woohoo, I'm an example! :D I like this idea. It's been a while since the last competition, but I personally don't feel like doing another long one quite yet. Here's anutter idea (not crazy, I swear): Liar's Retreat. Same concept as Forelhost, but the end prize is the Longhammer, instead. Oh, and Falmer instead of Draugr. Probably makes it worse, even though it's shorter. (Suggested minimum level is 18[!] according to the UESP.) |

<nodding> and that's the thing, the same thing could be done with different places.. with different rules.. But because it's short , it's not as bad as something that takes a very long time. Literally dungeon challenge.. dungeon race ( both to get down to Black Reach... ) one the most amount of enemies killed the other a "race".. time is the deciding factor. Nekkid Nord Race...but collecting.. Wood cutters friend, Lady of the Lake sword, Butterfly jar, etc.. all outside items.. Lair's Retreat or Forelhost... either works.. I have never done the whole of Liar's Retreat, that might be fun. Only did the outer room on 360 to get the barmaids dress. |

Liar's Retreat is....tough. It's been a while, but it was a struggle even on Novice. |

<nodding> yep... Add in the multiplier for Difficulty.. then it's more of a challenge, instead of at Adept. |

Time frame.. make them "Flash Challenges" say from Friday to the following Monday. That would give 2 weekends... longer ones... say a Quest-line one, two full weeks. |

I don't believe I've ever done either Forelhost or Liar's Retreat... Eh, mistake, I have done Liar's Retreat once and quite a while ago.

I like this idea a lot. Especially the level limits, which encourage risk. :) Here's one: Divines Quest Race. DiD. A time challenge to complete the four Divines quests: Kyne's Sacred Trials The Blessings of Nature The Book of Love The Heart of Dibella The quests can be done in any order. Alternate starts are allowed, except for house or faction starts, which give material advantage. Zombie Restarts are allowed, subject to a one hour penalty per death. Shortest time to completion wins. |

I have not done Liars Retreat. But I had the mod installed which allows foes to come through loading screen doors. Adella went in....came out sharpish....followed by a small hoard of Falmer who then decimated the nearby Stormcloak camp. Never went back :nails: Forelhost...... Sah does it naked on Legendary  I took Adella in there with a high sneak for fun once, and got to Rahgot without killing one draugr or taking a potion. Had to kill Rahgot to get the exit key though. That was quite the butt clencher. Ah, memories :) |

Depends on how you play...my lvl 30 Thief did it in full sneak zero armor...one shot Rahgot...and out she went. I've also had characters not make it past the 3rd chamber. Sah is Good... you don't need armor if you don't get hit on anything but the shield. .. |

Today i went through Soul Cairn (i'll upload the videos tomorrow) and i used the Balcony to exit, but without the option to fast travel and without the will to backtrack all the way to Undecroft, i had to use WW sprint to jump from that bridge directly on water like i did with my mage girl (she used Bats ability). This gave me an idea about the highest jump someone can make without dying (Become Ethereal is not allowed). It's not a competition at all, is more like a record that we aim to break. All we need is a thread like the current world record that gets updated every time someone makes a longer jump. We can start with the Bard's Leap jump as world record, just to have a reference. |

Ugh...Bards Leap....get it wrong and its curtains.....but how do you practice something you only get one shot at. Adella died a few times doing this thing, now we only take the risk with Become Ethereal. Same for that waterfall escape from Calcelmo's Wizards Tower during the TG quest and also the fall inside Kagrenzel. What is annoying with these leaps of faith.....is how they just sometimes let you live and sometimes kill you. We can't afford that random survivability on Dead is Dead. |

Jeez. How do you practice Bard's Leap? You make a "throw-away" character, and run it off there however many times it takes to figure it out. |

If you do that, the throw away char will be level one with low health, low armour, low everything, which will affect the survivability giving a false idea. It needs to be done with a char as good as the one you would attempt it with for real. A copy of ones current char really .....but if they get all dead.....it feels like you've just fudged around a DiD death happening. Cheated! Thats...uncomfortable....I tried it |

*shrug* Nope - I don't think so. You use a throw-away, she winds up figuring out the optimal "flight path". It has nothing to do with level etc. And if you think that's cheating, well.... sucks to be you. |

So you don't regard it easier to survive a drop, with 700 health than with 100 health....or with the cushioned perk rather thsn without it.....er' ok then! And having worked out the 'flight path' you then remember it good enough to save your char when you next get to do the jump a year from now. I had done Bards leap ages ago.....didn't help when standing there recently looking down! I chickened and used Become Ethereal. As for cheated, well.......I know it doesn't apply to you.....or maybe even most here. But I play DiD....sending clones in to test out dangers and find the best solutions prior to sending the 'real' char in is kind of cheating....or certainly feels like it to me. Like....lets send in a clone to test this danger...Bam! Dead! Ok...but that was only a test dummy....doesn't count. Do it again...bam! Dead! Yep still a test dummy...no worries! Again..dead! That fine Dead! Yep still testing Again...ooooh! Survived....yes we like THAT attempt...hit save We will call that one the real attempt and we survived it....goody! Nah! Actually - I first worked out the optimal flight path not long after the game released - couple or three months in probably. That was the only time I ever messed with it.... Until now - when I decided as long as I'd gone up there to get to the *area for a specific quest from LotD* - I might as well do Bard's Leap while I was there. I had no problem remembering the optimal placement and trajectory. So yes, I had no problem surviving - mind now - this is a girl I am NOT playing in god mode. In actual fact - I remember where everything is in every game I've ever played.... beginning with Stonegate (in b&w.... about 1985 - probably the first computer game I ever played). Seriously - I can load up any game I've ever played since 1985 - and know where every bit of "great gear, super treasure" can be found. I also know exactly how to manage something like the huge number of orcs in the temple in one of the early SSI Gold Box games. I can manage any game I've ever played - as if it was just this morning. That doesn't mean I find them - unplayable. Just that I do know how to.... um.... maximize the rewards - if I choose to utilize that knowledge. |

Ok...so YOU have a photographic game memory. I don't think that follows for most folk....certainly not me. In fact after two years or so I will forget 90% of a dungeon crawl and its almost like fresh. Which is nice for revisiting old quests. |
