Eh, it would have to run off sat here - no cell service. No real tv either. We pay DirecTV for the "real" network channels.... and that was a whole ball of wax too....

Bought DirecTV in 1994 - first users in this part of UT. No problem for a while - probably 5 years. Then we get a notice from them that in order to continue to get network channels, we'll have to prove we can't get them "normally" (with a "regular" antenna).

Took me 6 months of back and forth with them - finally had to insist they send a rep out here to my house to SEE that we could not get the networks even with an antenna that stuck up over our chimney by twenty feet (so.... like 60 feet off the ground....) and was seriously a danger during the April winds.

Guy shows up during a wind, rain, and lightning event, pissing and moaning about the roads, the mud, his clothes getting wet.... I handed him the remotes and said, "Go for it. If you can get service on the major networks here, then we'll deal with all this stupidity." He gave me a dirty look and spent over an hour fiddling. He even wanted husband to get up on the roof and mess with the antenna - with lightning! Um. I wasn't really nice about that, and threatened to call the company....

The upshot was of course that no - we cannot receive signal here where we live. Not from network broadcasts in SG or SLC - and not from cell networks either. So now we do get the major networks along with all the other crap - but we have to pay about $20 a month for them.

This is because we live below a 10k foot hunk of volcanic laccolith - with no line of sight to anything (except thank goddess my WB sat and the DirecTV sat). This is one of the very few places in the lower 48 where you can't get signal for anything. There may be 20 other places like this - but I wouldn't bet on it being that many.

No kidding. Actually - a box of rocks was smarter than that bozo. *shrug* We've never had any problem with DirecTV since - in fact, the last couple of times the receiver went out, they GAVE us a new one, because we'd been good customers for so long.

And they've never again even hinted that we could get shut off the major networks.... not that I personally care - I don't. If we didn't get tv period I'd be perfectly happy. Husband would whine. A LOT. And then I might have to do something drastic....

Anyway, a wifi hot spot in a vehicle would still cost me money - the vehicle payment - but I'd be able to drop the $70 a month for WB (unless there's a payment component to the hot spot in the vehicle - which I don't know but would certainly look into before jumping that direction!). The only reason I'm even considering this is that the '91 Jeep is probably going to need way more money in the next couple of years than we want to put into it.

I know the phone service ( On-Star ) that I could have in my truck would cost a pretty penny.. and not be a pinch better than my cell service the only difference is that on-star can tell when you are in an accident and call to see if you are ok... in no answer they send 1st responders to you. Which may be worth it to some people.

Well.... it would be - someplace where it worked. Not in most of the outlying areas here. Not to mention that all services of that nature are based in metroplexes - and when you need a tow from the Hightops above Salina UT - they just have NO clue.... I'm not even going to post the book that is "how we get roadside service in rural UT when said service lives in Chicago IL"....

Uh, I'm pretty sure that car WiFi works on the cell networks. If a cellphone won't work, neither will the car connection.

Ford has options for sat, or so I'm told.

Could be. I couldn't find anything on it, other than 4G LTE, which is cell. It would presumably have a much better antenna than a hand-held phone, so it might work in a fringe area.

I can’t get any tv with an antenna either (at least not with rabbit ears-never tried installing a rooftop). My place in in a bowl with basalt cliffs on one side and a rocky hillside on the other. I can’t get any TV signal at all and can barely get two or three staticky radio stations.

I used to have Direct TV for years but the trees grew higher and blocked the satellite. Had a rep out and he pointed out six or eight mature trees that would have to go, most of which are in the riparian area of the river that I cannot legally cut down even if I wanted to so I canceled my Direct TV. There is no cable out here but luckily the phone company had just gotten DSL up and running in my area. I found that more reliable than Direct TV, which used to go out during heavy snow and rain storms.

Content served from rd gets a different look from the same thing at www, but it looks like the content is the same. Just change the url to the server whose presentation you prefer.

Your old book-marks would lead to the www content (presumably).

And what's television?

Now that you mention it, it may have only been the internet service that went out with bad weather. I use the Internet more than the TV and would notice an Internet outage more.

Doesn't seem to work that way ghastley. They made the switch this morning on Oblivion's site - I used my normal www link to New Today, and I got the "new look", period.

Fresh announcement over there about making new the default.

But: "During this time we're still allowing users to access the old website design via https://old.nexusmods.com."

Hmm. Wasn't an announcement on the Ob site, and I couldn't get either the main site or Skyrim site to load right then. I wonder how long that will be allowed....

Nexus forced me onto the new version this morning. The only benefit I see so far is that you can now sort your tracking list with different options.
