I've gotten myself confuzzled. The title on the sign up thread says the comopetition has begun, someone posted they'd start tonight, but they have to work and I had it in my head that the start time was midnight tomorrow so as soon as it is 00:00:01 hours on the 17th one could begin. Now as you know kitty is eager to get going, but also doesn't want a false start at the gate!

Would those with clearer vision confirm the start time please. Cuz Brambleberry is :bonk:

The 16th at midnight... so when it turns into the 16th...or at least that's what I had meant anyway, though I know I put the 17th at one point... I won't be able to start because of work.

I am happy to be able to start a few short hours from now... but I think Richard is of the opinion that the start date is 24 hours later than that. I asked for a time verification you see, and his response put the start time at 12:01am on Saturday.

On a side note, I personally am of the opinion that nothing should ever be started or ended at midnight because it is always confusing... ;)

I don't think it makes any earthly difference when we start, as long as we abide by the time limit. :)

That said, I haven't even made a test character yet, and I'm rusty from not playing since early December, so I'm going in "blind." I'll be playing on Novice, and I'll still probably get killed by my first roadside encounter.

I'll be playing Polly Fonix, Breton "Witch Hunter" (arcane archer.)

Here's my load order (same as when I last competed, back in October):

In a general sense, you're right of course... it doesn't matter. Except... because the competition has a finite end date, a person erroneously starting a day after everyone else has 24 hours less in which to reach his goal. It probably wouldn't make any slight difference, but then again some people have very few playing hours to spare in the course of a day.

Assume you have 2 hours a day in which to play, you're never going to reach the 80 hour cap before the competition is over, and a lot can happen in a couple of hours. Remember the entire MQ in Skyrim has been started and completed in 52 minutes.

Aside from that, there is the frustration factor... I mean, just picture a poor guy who believes that he can't start until 12:01 Saturday morn. There he sits, in a darkened room in front of his monitor, which shows the main Skyrim menu.

Gloomily, he stares at through the dim light as though by force of will he can make the time pass faster... Friday morn, !2:01 he is relatively calm because he knows he still can't start for 24 hours.

by 8am, his beard has grown, and he obviously needs a shave, but he feels a need to maintain his vigil at the computer. By noon he's desperately in need of a bathroom break, but still the force of competition holds him in place. By 4pm on Friday, he's engaged in a fight with his wife because in desperation he urinated in her favorite planter, and by 8 pm his wife has taken his children and deparated for parts unknown.

As the minutes slowly tick around, he is drenched in nervous perspiration and smells to high heaven but, hero that he is, he cannot leave his post. At five minutes to midnight, he makes a final check at the forum, and discovers he could have started a day earlier...

At midnight, while Skyrim while his character rides in the cart, he dies of cardiac arrest due to the circumstances and stress generated by his experience.

Our hero goes to hell, and finds he is sitting in front of a computer. He is told he can leave his chair and go to heaven as soon as he completes the MQ in a competition. As the days, years, and centuries pass, he notices that the start date remains a steady 24 hours away...

My apologies for any confusion I may have caused regarding the start date, as it stands I didn't start at midnight and didn't even get round to the final test run....so I'll be starting as is. On the note that we can start as a basic vamp though, I think i'll be choosing that instead of left for dead. I'll add my character post to the proper topic now...

Dhark is finding this Memory Den dream rather interesting. This world is a colorful respite from the dismal Commonwealth. He has had a pleasant few days learning the land and meeting with the people. His current mission is to retrieve a horn from a crypt for the monk like Greybeards.

He has heard rumors from practically every guard and one orc about the Dawnguard, but he hasn't quite decided to head all the way back to Riften to find this fort. Perhaps when he has better use of his bow which is so much different than the pipe rifles and various hand guns of the commonwealth.

Time to venture forth once again. As he stepped out of High Hrothgar onto the stone steps Dhark reflected on the devastation the dragon Mirmulnir had wrought on the Western Watchtower.

I've never played DiD before, and I'm thinking I might give this a try. I do have a couple of questions though.

Was it finally decided that Run For Your Lives and When Vampires Attack are good to go by themselves? I thought I saw that earlier.

Are Arthmoors' location mods that add to the small settlements like Shors Stone, Dragon Bridge, etc. considered advantages? I'm thinking they would be because they add extra inns and vendors.

Run For Your Lives and When Vampires Attack are definitely OK. I don't know anything about that last one.

Vol I have Extended Towns and Cities for atmosphere and I just don't use any of the added "bonuses" during a competition. There are food vendors outside Whiterun and I think a hide and leather vendor, but they just look purty and provide a more populated atmosphere.

The first two, as Neil said, have been ok'd :)

Richard has the final say, but I don't think they are enough of an advantage to warrant worrying about. I have them in my load order, Arthmoor made sure that anything that can spawn vanilla will spawn in those towns... and none of them are walled.

Edit, but like Bram I don't use the vendors or other added items.

But Richard has the final say.

I'm thinking I'll just go ahead and drop them from my load order. My early game play style heavily emphasizes mining, crafting, and selling loot, so extra vendors would be beneficial. Especially with no fast travel.
