Thanks for the pics Grits :) I have seen Endarie and Taarie sleeping together....and in Skyrim...lying together is a definite euphemism for hanky panky. Adella has not spotted it or I'm sure she'd have commented. Susannah 'the Wicked' (Candlehearth Hall) can be found bunking up with Nils the cook....just keeping warm? Or getting paid to be laid? :) I'm not judging here....what a girl gets upto in her time off is no business of mine (cough). You may notice.....Gerdur does NOT sleep with Hod...marital hiatus? This forces Adella to snuggle up to the grubby old boy if she wants a free bed early on. That should start a cat fight...but Gerdur just doesn't seem to care...poor ol' sod Hod. Oh gosh! Lisette makes me so confused. I really like her, but I just don't know. I don't think Rick would approve, not that its any of his business. Since making my own shrine to Dibella and praying there more regularly, I have had all sorts of strangeness come upon me.....feelings you know. I am not sure how I should feel. I can't ask Mr. Widehead for advice....he's just a man, so you can guess his drool soaked answer. Its something I need to work out...... |

Heh, I'd have thrown something at Lisette for creeping on me. I hate when they do that. Nice to see Jace back on the road after a break! |

Acadian, I am right there with you on Lisette. I’m relieved that Jace will continue to regard her with fond admiration, since it wasn’t just another one of those nights. You are right on the money about Belrand. The two of them plus Vigilance went on several unremarkable dungeon crawls, and Jace was calmer and more secure in herself in Belrand’s company than she had ever been before. Rick, you’re welcome! I remember my first character Rowan Varrus shared the bed with Gerdur or Sigrid, but I don’t remember which one. Probably whichever one is related to Hadvar, since she was an Imperial. There’s also a game of musical beds at Erikur’s house in Solitude. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him in bed with Melaran. Adella, I think that Lisette is lovely and talented, and worthy of esteem. It doesn’t surprise me that a bard would catch the attention of someone who has chosen Dibella as her patron. In time I’m sure your feelings will make more sense to you. :) Kane, thanks! That was kind of a long period with no trouble-making, lol. Areial, sooner! :D As is Jace’s way, when she turned around it was completely without warning. This girl! Folks, thank you for your kind comments about Jace! The next update is longer than usual, you will understand why. I expect that most of her updates will continue to be in the very short to medium range, and not nearly as frequent as lately once we get through the parts that have already been posted on Beth. |

Jace: page 24 I always thought falling snow was silent, Jacelyn mused. I guess in Shornhelm I just didn’t notice the noises outside. After a week of emptying book shelves all over Hjaalmarch she rode along the frozen north coast again, Vigilance at her horse’s heels and Belrand mounted on his chestnut mare at the rear. Jace had pushed her hood back to hear all of the sounds. Her ears quickly got cold, but it was worth it. A crackling hiss ahead alerted her. Ice wraiths! Jacelyn put her heels into Midnight’s sides, sending her leaping ahead and past the creepy ice monsters. The ice wraiths gave chase, allowing Belrand time to dismount and ready his spells and weapon behind them. Jacelyn turned Midnight and rode back past the pursuers to a position behind her protectors, calling a healing spell to her hands as she dismounted. Midnight followed Belrand’s horse out of danger while Belrand and Vigilance engaged the wraiths. Jacelyn slipped and fell flat on her back, cursing. Concentrating on her new riding skills and healing spell, she had forgotten about the ice. By the time she made it to the fight, blood and ice wraith essence stained the snow. Vigilance and Belrand perked up under the golden light of Jacelyn’s healing. “We make a good team,” Belrand said. He nodded at her leg. Jace hadn’t even felt the wound. She whistled for Midnight and sipped one of her healing potions, saving her magicka in case the wraiths had also managed to injure her horse. Besides, calling different spells to her hands was cumbersome and tedious, as was switching between spells and her bow. Perhaps real mages handled things better. And perhaps you could get some training, Jacelyn scolded herself. “What do you think will be next?” she called to her partner. “Another sabre cat?” Jace absently compared her task list to her mental map as she mounted. Best place to go next is near Valtheim Towers. We can pass through Dragon Bridge and… “Screw that. Belrand! Change of plan. We’re going to Markarth.” Jace took the time to wash up at the stables when she checked for Vorstag’s horse. She chose her favorite new dress to wear, then could hardly lace it up the way her hands were shaking. Banning wanted to chat about Vigilance, but Jace could only nod and agree with whatever he was saying. A small part of her hoped it was compliments over her care of the war dog. The rest of her was consumed with thoughts of Vorstag. She found him in the fireside crowd at the Silver-Blood Inn, singing along with the bard. Looking at that hollow in his throat made her breathless. How many nights had she awakened with this ache in her belly, remembering the smell of him, the taste of him? And now she had come back, uninvited. Would he treat her like a stranger? Was he even still single? That innkeeper’s daughter had an innocent face, but her body looked like what most men wanted. And there she was with her bosom popping out of her dress, staring. “Well met, Jace. It’s good to see you.” She’d forgotten what that smile did to her. Jacelyn opened her mouth, but she found that her practiced words were gone. Vigilance saved the moment by launching himself at Vorstag. The two might have been a lad and his puppy for the unrestrained joy of their greeting. The bard relocated to a safe distance while the other patrons scattered. A hand on her shoulder made Jace jump. “I’ll get myself a room and a meal, lass,” Belrand said in her ear. “Come find me when you need me.” Eventually Vorstag distracted the dog by placing someone’s dinner on the floor. “Jace—” “Vors—” Jace put out her arms, laughing. Vorstag scooped her up and didn’t put her down until they got to his bed. For a time there was no distance between them. Unease crept in as they lay with limbs laced together and sweat drying. Jace pressed her face into Vorstag’s skin, as if closing her eyes would let her hide. If you make him mad, this may be the last time you hold him. Jace kept her voice so low that if he wanted, Vorstag could pretend he hadn’t heard. “Why did you leave? Was it because of Embry? Nothing happened with him, I swear. It was a stupid, drunken mistake.” “You dismissed me. Like I was still some… hireling.” Nervous tears leaked out. “I mean when we were on the road to Halldir’s Cairn. When I got there you were gone, but then later you found me. Did you go beat up Embry? I’m so sorry, it wasn’t his fault!” “Embry shared our table. Now he won’t touch you as long as I’m still breathing, no matter what you do in his bed. He has at least that much honor left.” Vorstag made Jace look at him. “I rode back to Whiterun and murdered a guard.” All the air left her lungs. She felt as if she’d turned to stone. “Jace. It’s done.” “Why didn’t you tell me you knew?” she whispered. “Why did you let me keep pretending?” “Because you didn’t want me to know. That was your choice. But I couldn’t let it stand.” It took a moment for Jace to compose herself. “Did anyone see you?” “If they did, they kept quiet. They might work it out if they find the body. I asked around a bit before I found him. Then I asked around some more to be sure.” “How..?” “Threw him off the Dragonsreach porch. No Sovngarde for that fetcher.” Vorstag slid back down into the pillows and put his arm up for Jace to slip under. “That’s in the past, love. I’m done talking about it. Unless there’s something else you want to ask me.” “No.” Jace lay down. Then she sat back up. “I should have told you. I should have trusted you. I won’t do that with the guards again. I’ll pay the fine or go to jail if they catch me, but I won’t try to get out of it with a… favor.” “Good, but that was not your doing.” “I went back in that alley with him, I told him I’d—” “No one is allowed to hurt you like that. Ever.” “Well, people try to kill us all the time, Vorstag.” “How many are still alive?” Jacelyn could tell that was the end of the discussion. When she curled against his side, Vorstag wrapped an arm around her. She felt warmed from the inside out. “Thank you.” Vorstag gave her a squeeze and kissed the top of her head. “I don’t know where I’d be without you,” he said, a smile in his voice. Their old game made Jace’s heart sing. “Bleeding less with empty pockets.” She patted the space beside her for Vigilance to jump up, but then she realized that Belrand must have him. “Oh!” Jace said. “I didn’t introduce you to—” Vorstag grunted, already half-asleep. “Right,” said Jacelyn. “Tomorrow.” There’s going to be a tomorrow. . Awww. Vorstag really shined here in so many ways. The growth of Jace as a character was really on display - she learns at her own pace and along a bumpy path, but she does learn. I'm so happy for her! |

Aw you guys, you are all so kind! This was a hugely important time for Jace and Vorstag, and it’s a relief to get them through it. Thank you for hanging in there with us, folks! Thank you so much for your warm support! :hugs: That was the last of the re-worked episodes. The rest are as they were posted on BethSoft. Belrand accompanied Vorstag and Jace on a few dungeon crawls, some of which turned into raids when they were detected. Here’s where I picked back up with their story: Jace: page 25 Jacelyn stepped into the Winking Skeever, heart heavy and purse light. Vorstag and Belrand sat at a round table near Lisette. Jace murmured a greeting to the bard as she passed. “Gentlemen,” she said to the men. She sat down while they were laughing. They both still wore a coating of blood and filth over their armor. The soft clink of coins quieted them down as Jacelyn placed the limp purse on the table. She sighed. They had hoped for a large payoff after all of that work. “The five books brought a good price, but we spent a lot on three fares back and forth to Solstheim,” Jacelyn explained. “The Raven Rock bounty didn’t cover our costs. I have enough to pay you for both jobs, but there’s no bonus and no advance for the next one. I’m sorry. I can’t keep you on retainer.” “No worries,” said Vorstag. “Your loss is my loss.” He poured wine into a goblet and pushed it toward her. “I know you have expenses,” Jace said to Belrand. “I really am sorry.” “I’ll find work, lass, don’t you worry.” Belrand patted her on the arm. “You two watch your backs out there. If you need me again, you know where I’ll be.” The two Nords engaged in a bout of back-slapping, raised tankards, headlocks, more toasts, competitive belching, and gut-punches. Eventually their farewell seemed complete. Belrand took a seat at the next table. “Good hunting!” Jacelyn said to him. A lump grew in her throat. Belrand had become a friend to them. Vorstag refilled Jace’s goblet and leaned back in his chair. “I’ll pick up another lead in the morning,” he said. “Unless it’s time for some more of your kind of work.” “Not in Solitude. I like it here. Maybe we could live here someday.” She sipped her wine, then abandoned the pretense of manners and drained the goblet. The bottle was already empty. “I should have known we couldn’t all make the boat trip. That was a stupid mistake. Dammit, I really felt like a business person!” “Cheer up,” Vorstag told her, “I have enough for a few more bottles and we’re still breathing. Say, remember what I said I was gonna do the next time you got gloomy?” Jacelyn giggled. Then she hiccupped. “Yeah. Let’s go upstairs.” |

Best bit for me was the excessive male posturing prior to parting....I can just see that from a couple of mature but rough bantering guys. "Go on, hit me in the stomach, 'ard as ya can"..... " Call that a punch?" Then the head lock, " go on get outta that then grrrr" That man hug slapping....."Talos guard you" "may the gods watch over your battles friend etc" Jace would be muttering like....'can't just say cheerio' Brilliant :) |

Thanks, Sere! Jace was so disappointed, but I’m kind of glad that mod was so stingy with the payouts. Poverty is good for them. Otherwise they’d never get out of bed! Andra, she may need her Muffle spell, lol! I think you’re right, Vorstag will want Belrand to back him up on their next killing job. That guy is good and his comments are awesome. Thank you! Rick, I have seen that kind of scene unfold between the guys so many times while we women are standing around going, “It’s hot/cold/dark/raining out here! We’ll see you in, like, three days! Can’t we all just say goodbye?” Thanks, Rick! |
