ghastley, I wonder if the NPC compass is color-coded like the Detect Life spell. She should upgrade. I guess Jace had a better time at the party than Vorstag! :D Acadian, thank you! She should really trust those dogs, I know there were plenty of times when I glanced at my dogs to see if that noise was something I should worry about. It was funny when I saw that Vorstag was ignoring the incoming dragon, since he had just run all over the river hunting down every mudcrab before he would come over and relax. They had a feast! Vorstag’s farming comment is like Jordis’s sausage one, it cracks me up every time. The man loves some good, tilled earth. Rick, I have the compass disabled in Jace’s game, so I don’t see red dots either unless I turn it back on. I was as worried as Jace, because I knew there was a Word Wall right around the corner and I thought it was the dragon from there! :O I should have trusted the NPC AI, ha! Thank you, Andra and Sere! I’m looking forward to continuing her game and story in another few updates. I swapped follower commentary mods, so I’m curious what new remarks Vorstag will make. |

Haelga can help out with that. I wanna stay at the bunk house....I ain't fussy.....I'm collecting Dibellan Marks (Which are like German Marks only more fun to come by :) ). What do you get if you worship Dibella and Sanguine.....FUN! (Add in a little Molag Bal if you like it unorthodox and spicey :) ) Grits...yes...AI sees what you as a player can not.....it sees what the programme says is there....like how npcs can attack you in pitch dark while you can not see them....Falmer are good at that! Jace: page 29 Jacelyn woke sweaty and sore. Her tongue felt coated in fuzz. She had to crack the crust to get her eyes open. Then she closed them again with a groan. “There’s a pitcher on the end table,” Vorstag said. His voice made her feel every one of her ear bones. “I’ll get it.” “Ugh,” Jacelyn muttered. “Ow. What the hells? Was it your birthday?” “No. It was your idea this time. Stay still, I’ll be right back.” “That sounds like skooma talk. We smoked last night, didn’t we?” “You did.” Jacelyn sighed, which caused a cough, which made her hurt more. “Never. Again. I feel like I crossed the wrong guards.” Vorstag pressed two vials into her palm. “Drink these, then the water. I’ll get Hreinn to fill the wash basin.” Jacelyn rolled over to sit up and cracked her elbow on the stone headboard. Then she bonked her head on the stone shelf. “Godsdammit,” she muttered. “I hate Markarth.” After a potion for her aches, another to stave off addiction, a honey nut treat, and a goblet of breakfast wine, Jacelyn was ready to forgive Vorstag’s cheer. She sat cross-legged on the bed looking at his map, the dead treasure hunter’s note in her hand. “Here,” Vorstag pointed. “Talking Stone Camp. We can go through Rorikstead.” He rumpled her hair, grinning like a lad. “The Glass Bow of the Blaze! That sounds powerful. I’ll wager it draws like your glass bow, only with that enchantment you can set things on fire!” “This says it’s guarded by a giant,” said Jacelyn. “More than one, maybe. Think you can do it?” Jacelyn folded the note. “I know I can do it. Just keep the dogs quiet and don’t give me away. Say, let’s spend the night at the Frostfruit. I’d like to do some midnight shopping.” By the following afternoon Jace had settled their horses and rented a room from Mralki. She left Vorstag cleaning the blood from two sets of Thalmor weapons and armor they picked up on the way. The ride had been peaceful, which made Vorstag restless. It had been easy to antagonize a passing Thalmor patrol into giving him some exercise. Jace had been able to keep their wizard’s attention on her during the fight. With Jacelyn’s Breton magic resistance the shock spells hurt her, but not nearly as much as they would have hurt Vorstag. Talking Stone Camp provided so much cover that Jace decided to raid their stash right away rather than waiting for dark. When the giant’s pacing took him to the far end of the camp, she eased open his treasure chest. The glass bow lay within, reddish glints of fire magic dancing along its length. The chest also contained the most beautiful and heavy-looking battleaxe Jace had ever seen. “By Sam’s spiky spitter,” she breathed. “Vorstag is having that!” As she braced the heavy weapon across her shoulders, she heard a familiar bark. The giant answered with a roar. “You are kidding me!” Jace hissed. “Stray Dog, get away from there, dammit!” Stray Dog made a bee-line straight for Jace’s hiding place behind the giant’s open chest. His waving tail announced his delight at finding her. Jace whirled around and ran to the rock ledge at the back of the camp as fast as her burdens allowed. Once over the top she dropped into a crouch and made her way down the cliffs, hoping the giant couldn’t reach her. Its thunderous footsteps sent small rocks tumbling past and splashing into the pool below. It took all of her nerve to sneak through the boulders and trees instead of running in blind panic. The waterfall kept her from hearing sounds of pursuit, or sounds of her idiot dog being squashed to death. Jacelyn’s eyes burned with unshed tears. Please get away, you stupid mutt. The stupid mutt got away. He dashed up barking joyfully from the side as Jace looked back at the angry giant. The massive creature bellowed and brandished its club, but it did not chase them. Jace crept away carefully just the same. Back at the Frostfruit, Jace found Vorstag kicked back with Erik the Slayer. She let the battleaxe slide from her shoulders. Vorstag caught the haft before it could sever his leg. “By Talos, this looks like it’s made of pure midnight!” “How many dogs do we have, Nord?” Jacelyn snapped at him. “Two,” he said, dragging his eyes away from the glorious axe. “Vigilance and Stray... Wait, where’s…” Vorstag spotted the mutt standing next to Jacelyn, still dripping from his plunge into the pool at the waterfall’s base. “Oh, f—” “Try ‘Dammit.’ That’s his new name.” She gave The Slayer her sweetest smile. “Hi, Erik. Would you like to buy a dog? I’ll throw in a warrior for no extra charge. He comes with an ebony axe.” |

I’m sure he was too busy swapping stories with The Slayer to dog-sit, ha! Poor Vorstag caught the blame, but Stray Dog/Dammit doesn’t stay when told due to a mod conflict. :O I’m not sure what I’m going to do about that. He follows no matter what and completely ruins Jace’s stealth! |

Lucky to get away! Giants can be relentless pursuers, and fast too! But she made it....yay. SD has to go! No two ways about it....can't have a sneak thief with a yelping hound jumping all over her.... Edited by Rick, Aug 16 2016, 12:37 PM.

How is it that the really stupid dogs that betray you to your enemies are always the ones that can get themselves out of any situation? Making them impossible to lose. Some of them look remarkably like summoned Dremora, too. Or is mine just acting like a dog? |

Kane, I use a mod that removes that comment from followers, but in Jace’s game I should put it back! ghastley, if the dog-mora is the shirtless one from your Hearthfires mod, I’d forgive just about any behavior! Rick, I have modded a pure genius of a dog – she is non-aggressive and runs away from combat! Maybe I’ll pull a swap on Jace. :D I was very surprised when the giant stopped following her. I think it might have been the ledge that did it. |

Yeah....pathing issues! I use the same ploys to throw off pursuers. Jumping over a few rocks will screw most npcs....but I have had a few scary surprises with unusually bold npcs. Maybe Jace should train SD....when trained he gets a character change to new 'run away' dog. Edited by Rick, Aug 16 2016, 05:04 PM.

What hangover that Jace woke up with! I love that she likes to taunt Thalmor patrols into attacking so she can have some fun defending herself. Oh noes! A third dog that doesn't know how to sneak or shut up?!? Dammit. :P |

Urrrrrggghh....I JUST now got Vorstag's joke after buying Moon Sugar. But yeah, some Dragons don't seem to have the time for a fight, even if you throw lightning at them. Can't say I blame them, honestly. Best thing about playing a Khajiit? The "red dots" on the compass is justified, thanks to cat ears/nose. Stray Dog's just an eager doggo trying its best. Maybe not the best for Jayce, but still. |

Andra and Sere, thank you! Jace’s antics crack me up. Argh, this dog! Acadian, it has been fun to see Jace gain some confidence and learn to work with her ground crew, but also scary as she tests her limits. She is definitely growing. Thank you! monkey, I can see the red compass dots as well-honed situational awareness, and sometimes I toggle it on, but that damned dragon fooled both of us! Yep, that’s how Jace sees Stray Dog. She loves that dog and doesn’t want to quit on him. :O |

Jace: page 30 As the last bandit fell, Vorstag turned on his heel and stalked back toward Jacelyn. “Shoot me one more time, Breton, and I’ll turn you over my knee!” he roared. Vorstag’s face looked like thunder, which was not unusual, but Jace had never seen it directed at her before. Sick fear flooded her belly. She started to scramble backward, holding her hands out to shield her face. Not him, she told herself. He won’t. He’s just yelling. It took all of her will to straighten up and face him. “I’d like to see you try!” By the time he reached her Jace felt like throwing up, but Vorstag looked less red in the face. She lifted her chin and glared right back at him. Vorstag showed her his back. “You shot me in the ass again, Jace.” “It’s only in the muscle part,” she mumbled. Removing her arrow and treating the wound was an all-too-familiar process. “I’m sorry,” she said when they had finished. “I’ll sew up your trousers.” “Nah, I’ll get Adrianne to do it. Good thing you like that bow you stole in Rorikstead. With the other one you’d have set me on fire.” Jacelyn ran her fingers over her new bow’s silver-gilt carving. It was as beautiful to handle as to look at. “I’m just glad I didn’t have a chance to poison the arrow.” They spent a moment not looking at each other. “Yeah,” said Jace. “Good talk.” At the Bannered Mare Vorstag brought the subject up again. “You should get some training from Faendal,” he said, shifting his weight off the barely healed arrow wound. “You made a fortune from that last haul. We can ride to Riverwood in the morning.” “I’m not a real archer,” Jace reminded him. She wiggled around so she could keep using his arm as a pillow. “Isn’t this the part where you fall asleep?” “Because you never practice and you haven’t had enough training,” he continued. Jacelyn chewed her lip. Why am I arguing about this? I don’t WANT to shoot him in the back. “Someday you’re going to kill one of those dogs,” Vorstag told her. “All right. Tomorrow.” She reached for the wine. And you’d better believe I’m making the gold back while we’re there. Vorstag caught her wrist. “No fuzzy head in the morning, and no sneaking out tonight. We’ll rise with the sun.” Dammit. So much for my appointment with the Jarl’s war chests. “Deal. But we’ll finish this bottle, of course.” Despite Vorstag’s prediction of a dawn departure, it was early evening before they reached Riverwood. Jace tracked Faendal down for some archery pointers while Vorstag headed to the inn. Then she made some small trades with Lucan and Alvor before joining him. Inside the Sleeping Giant, Delphine groused at Orgnar while Sven played a mournful tune on his lute. A gorgeous, busty Nord woman in light leather armor sat across from Vorstag. Both of them had tankards of ale. Jace smiled a greeting at the woman. She looks familiar. Did we party with her at the Silver-Blood? Or was it the Mare? “I’m going to use the alchemy station for a while,” she said to Vorstag. She bent as if to kiss him on the cheek but nipped his ear instead. “I may be up late.” “See if you can make it to the right bed this time,” Vorstag said, still looking in the woman’s direction. “It’s the room on the left.” Jace followed his gaze to find Embry sitting at the bench right behind the woman. “I remember. The second filthiest Nord in this tavern sleeps in the room on the right.” By the time Jace finished her poisons the tavern was quiet and Vorstag still hadn’t taken a bath. So Jace led him to the river for a moonlit swim. The dogs kept them safe from slaughterfish and mudcrabs. They even killed a wolf that got past the guards and ate a chicken. Drifting in the river made Jace feel drowsy. She imagined she would wake up in a hurry when her Resist Frost potion wore off. “If we had waterbreathing charms we could sleep out here,” she murmured. Vorstag had a different suggestion. Jace giggled into his neck. “Maybe Lucan has a necklace stashed away somewhere. You know, I forgot to go burgle them! And Alvor and Faendal.” She sighed. “This is not good for my career. I think I must really like these people.” |
