The forecast is looking better for us. Some weekend stuff was moved up to tonight, so that was hectic. Other weekend stuff is still on for now. Plus we have guests for the week. First flight was cancelled, but they got on another one. Dammit. :D |

Well... we're keeping the Weather Channel on pretty much full time. Daughter's in laws are in a Jax suburb - which I didn't realize before (eh, they're not.... congenial at all.... so *shrug* SIL deals with them because he has to, but HE calls US his parents....) Anyway, they didn't evac, telling him (he's in Baltimore) that they weren't told to evac.... But looks like to me they should have. Neither of them is in anything even approaching good health - SIL says he told them to get out but they just said they couldn't (for whatever reason) and of course at this point he can't get IN there.... I dunno. I think this is a really bad setup for them now that I know.... |

Sere some people are stupid stubborn, " I've lived through Hurricane's before"... and they won't leave. Some because of stubbornness, other's because of their animals.. the only one's I feel sorry for are the "working poor" that just can't afford to pack up and evac... let alone stay anywhere. Many rely on city transit, have no vehicle of their own... no way to get out. |

Well, they still have cars and motorhome. They moved to FL from Michigan or somewhere up there about - hmmm - 7 or 8 years ago maybe. So they should have grabbed the meds, the cats, the clothes and bailed in the motorhome. But they didn't. I dunno.... |

Well they still have a bit of time before the worst hits...but motor home is probably NOT a good idea anymore... not much time though... Damn, they could have just gotten on I-10 and cruised over to Oh...anywhere but there! Something Michael and I have talked about, with him thinking about moving back to FL.. I want some kind of Trailer...Travel Trailer...to evac in... cause dog's...important things... self sufficient... food all that stuff. Well plus I have a major "I want to go and see it, bucket list" |

This is my first hurricane without my Suburban. I feel naked without it, lol. My FL folks are on the gulf side. They have been sending me pictures of their dwindling "storm preparedness" bourbon supply. I don't think we have to worry about them. :D |

Yeah, I was SO glad we'd kept the trailer when we had to deal with the forest fire. So glad, we just put new tires on it just in case.... The ones on it were 13 years old.... surprised they got us to Cedar and back twice, plus the 22 miles to the auto shop where we bought the tires.... |

Thanks, monkey. The storm took an unexpected turn and we are getting hammered. Never saw water rise so fast. Everyone is home now, so we're just hoping the trees stay upright and the power stays on. Thankfully the corkscrew is not electric. |

Thank you for the good wishes, friends! :hugs: Looks good so far this morning. I can smell broken trees but can’t see any of mine down. Pretty soon it will be light enough to walk around and check things out. A walk with hot coffee, we still have power! Whew. :) Edited by Grits, Oct 9 2016, 07:09 AM.

"That Nord woman with the dark hair last night, Sylgja?" Jace and Vorstag rode south again, toward Riften. After their victory over the spiders of Redbelly Mine, they had not had to buy a drink all night at the Tapped Vein. Even the innkeeper had bought them a round in gratitude for loosening the miners' purse strings. A merry evening had produced a late start the next day. The road was quiet and empty. Jace had felt safe enough to let her mind wander , but she kept remembering things she had forgotten to say. "You know, the one who gave Grogmar money to buy his round?" Jace continued. She glanced over to make sure Vors was listening. "I told her I'd take a parcel of hers to Darkwater Crossing. And her Pa there will probably have letters for her." She chewed her lip. "It's not a job or anything. I just thought, well, it would be nice, and maybe when we get back there she would, you know, like me." "You want to bring her to our bed?" "What? No! I want to be her—Why, do you want to?" Vorstag looked straight ahead, wearing his I'm-Not-Answering-That face. "I mean, I have some female friends," Jace said, "like Bothela, and Angeline, and Arcadia, it's just, you know, I'd like to have one a little closer to my age. There's Muiri, but she's not someone I'd trust, and Ysolda, but even though Ysolda smiles, she doesn't like me." After a few moments Vorstag glanced over at her. "Aye," he said. "I know you're going to see Roggi when we get to Kynesgrove. I saw you order that case of Black-Briar mead and all the gods know you're a Honnigbrew man, so it must be just to be good to him. You two will sit outside all night and drink and talk about man things I guess, and it makes me look forward to Kynesgrove because I know you'll be happy seeing your friend again. I thought maybe I could have that happy friend feeling too, and have a woman somewhere I could talk with." Vorstag chuckled. "Jace my love, I have used more words since we met than in all the years before. We'll sit outside all night and drink, that's true. Roggi will do the talking." "I can see that," Jace giggled. After a while Vorstag said, "Sylgja will be kind to you when we get back. You can look forward to it." Jace felt a little uneasy at his tone. "You're not going to threaten her, right? You're just reassuring me?" Vorstag shook his head and laughed. "Because sometimes you're scary." "People pay me for that," Vors reminded her. "Soo," Jace said, "I guess we'll come back to Shor's Stone after Darkwater Crossing, and then go to Kynesgrove, and then to Winterhold?" Vorstag gave her a nod. "All right," said Jace, "Good plan." Smoke rose from Fort Greenwall's yard. When they got close they saw that someone had started a burn pile and dragged the dead bandits onto it. The smell made Jace's hangover tummy gurgle. A woman and a lad loaded oddments onto a hand cart. They stopped when they saw Jace and Vorstag approaching. "Should we go around?" Jace asked. Vorstag raised his hand in greeting. "Nah, it's going to be scavengers from close by. Let's show them we mean no harm. Don’t want an arrow in my back later." They dismounted as they entered the fort. Jace motioned the dogs to her side. "Good day," she said to the woman. "It's a good day with this filth burning in the pits of Oblivion," the woman declared. She spit onto the ground. Her lad followed suit. "Not your kin, then?" said Vorstag. "They took my kin," said the woman. "My girl, my beautiful daughter, they locked her up in the old prison cells. It took us three weeks to raise the ransom. They gave her marks all over, and their foul diseases. She don't talk no more. Under her skirt she smells like…" She shook her head. Jace knew that folk scratching out their living in the woods would have no money for a priestess or a healer. She rummaged in her pack for some potions. "Here, these are from my own supply. They're strong, and you can trust them. I don't know if they will cure what she has, but it's worth a try." "I can trade you for them." The woman looked toward her cart full of the junk Jace and Vorstag had left behind. "That is a tempting offer," Jace said, "but we are laden with the materials I use in my alchemy business, and cannot afford to take more weight. Please, it cost me nothing to make them." The woman accepted Jace's vials, but balked when Vors tried to give her the last of their Shor's Stone payout. "I don't want no charity," she told him. "It's from the bandits," Jace lied. "We picked it up when we passed through here on the way to Shor's Stone. There might be some of your own coins in there." "I'm sorry for what happened to your lass," Vorstag said. Jace looked at him in surprise. She thought that any decent person would feel sorry about what the girl had endured, but Vorstag sounded personally moved over the situation. Guilt, or someone he loves that was hurt once? she wondered. They continued on through the broken-down barriers and back out under the warm sun. Birds sang in the nearby woods. The panting dogs and walking horses made their own peaceful trail music. Jace found herself studying the profile of her beloved, still wondering. |

More questions than answers.... uneasy times. So Jace needs girl talk, huh? I don't know much about Sylgja - well, I don't know much about any of the followers.... Great read, Grits! |

Oh well done Grits!! Jace's sense of self worth is growing, and Ilove that Vorstag is right there with her, and sees her worth. Now I, like Jace, wonder about a past pain for him. Wonderful!! Edited by Andra Hawksdaughter, Oct 17 2016, 07:31 PM.
