Anything I have now on paper is in the largest safe deposit box the bank has available. And it's stuffed.... I probably have a million words still on paper (and no, that's not a joke, or an exaggeration). The stuff on computer - redundant backups of redundant backups.....

Yikes. I have my paper stuff in the attic, but I am in hurricane country surrounded by huge trees. My flood would come from above.

Jace: page 3

“Fancy robes. You a wizard or something?”

“Yes,” Jacelyn lies, a sweet smile on her face. “I am a wizard.”

It’s true that Jacelyn studied her Illusion tomes long enough to learn quiet casting, but she is no wizard by any stretch of the word. Even healing spells are too much work, so she uses potions when she is sick or injured. The only spell she uses is her summoned familiar, and he has been a part of her since before she tied on her first apron. Still, she can’t resist the attention.

Jacelyn smooths her new robe, purchased from Belethor at the General Goods Store. “These are the same kind worn at the College of Winterhold,” she tells the man. Maybe someday I’ll go there, she thinks. I could be a student.

This is another lie, but Jace has gotten so good at lying that she does not mind lying to herself.

Whiterun has been a comfortable place to spend her days, but it is time to move on. Jacelyn has emptied many of the town’s cupboards and chests of what little gold they held. She just wants one more night to explore the Jarl’s palace and pick up the alchemy ingredients that Arcadia leaves out in the open. Jace broke in the other night, but Arcadia’s daughter was still up. Jacelyn had to pretend that she was there after-hours to use the alchemy lab. The guise of wandering alchemist is one she enjoys almost as much as traveling mage, and the outfit is pretty much the same. Though she finds that stolen wine tastes the sweetest, Jacelyn will only wear items that she buys new. After a lifetime of hand-me-downs she enjoys treating herself well.

Jacelyn walks across the town center toward the Bannered Mare to take a nap. Last night’s escapade in Jorrvaskr was thrilling, and it has been hard to wind down this morning.

The crowd inside the inn is light. This is good, because there are fewer people around who might recognize the bow she just stole from the Companions. Jacelyn debates sitting down next to Jon Battle-Born and telling him some lies, but she is pretty sure they won’t end up in a sweaty tangle upstairs no matter what she tells him. He seems to have a thing with the barmaid.

“You look like someone who can hold their liquor,” a man says to Jace from a side table. “How about a friendly contest to win a staff?”

The man looks like a Breton. He is cute and smells clean, plus he’s dressed like a real mage. Jace has a good idea what his ‘staff’ is going to be. The same thing as the ‘spears’ and ‘hammers’ that the warrior types like to offer her. She’ll have to be careful what she says about magic, but with her new (stolen) bow she can pretend to be an archer. Perhaps a scout. And hopefully they won’t be talking for long.

“A drinking contest?” Jace says, giving him her best smile. She takes a seat. “You don’t stand a chance.”

Oh dear, that Jace, hehehe. I've never actually done that quest on a female character. I am most interested in who has reactions with her after the contest! :)

Grits,
You want me to DELETE Jace's story pages from here?
And....what then happens about peoples responses to it which would now be irrelevant here....delete those too?
Im happy to oblige if that's what's wanted....for gods sake ensure you do have Jace backed up first......

Btw yes I understand the first character intro page does remain here!

Rick, sorry I'm confused about what's supposed to go here. I thought we could keep a character's whole life and story together in one place until they die (or retire), when we would then make a memorial for them. That's really the appeal to me of a dedicated DiD section. There's also a lot of friendly chat that goes on about the specifics of a particular character's game, which makes sense to me to include and even encourage in the individual character threads.

What's the thinking behind separating the RP stories out of the DiD section?

I was in the dark, too, Grits.

I was planning to do it as you describe, and leave the Character Stories area for the more "planned" non-DiD type stories, as happens on the other forum. But I'm okay with doing ti either way.

OK, I’m glad I didn’t miss a rules post or something. :D

As you can imagine there’s a big difference between how Jace’s story unfolds as a Dead is Dead character and how my stories for regular characters get written. For one thing, DiD stories tend to end abruptly! (But I'm being extra-careful with you, Jace!)

awesome... poor Sam doesn't know what's about to hit him.

As I said on the other thread.. I had thought that DiD characters ( stories ) would be here.. both Competition stories and regular DiD play stories ( and Adella's Bio ). With regular play stories in the other area.

My reasoning is what you touched on Grit's... DiD storied tend to end...abruptly. This might confuse some people.. and yes I know sub-titles could be added to the DiD stories, but well I just think its a better Idea to separate them... and some of those stories will be mine.

Andra, I’m glad you’re enjoying her! She is a handful, lol.

Areial, Sam had a busy night with her. Many of my characters have disappointed him. Jace really earned her prize! :D

Jace: page 4

Jacelyn woke up in Markarth feeling like she’d been rode hard and put away wet, as they say at the stables. A trip to the Hag’s Cure did little to address her hangover. The lady at the general store didn’t have a remedy, either, but she had some shiny things to trade for Jacelyn’s potions. It took a visit to the Silver-Blood Inn to quiet her head. They had Surilie Brothers wine on the menu. Jacelyn didn’t see any sitting out in the open, so she had to buy some.

Jacelyn also bought some beef and a pie and took her bounty over to the fire. Perhaps it was the expensive wine or maybe her new enchanted ring made her look like she had coin in her purse. Something attracted the attention of a huge, painted Nord in scale armor.

Mara’s kitten, this guy looks like he could murder me with one paw, Jacelyn thought as he approached. Maybe he thinks I’m Forsworn. How the hells did I get here alive? There’s no profit in being a Breton in the Reach. No help from the innkeepers, I’ll wager. They’ll likely sell this food again if I don’t bleed on it. Oh gods, I’m so dead.

The big fetcher blocked out the firelight. He drew in a breath that sounded like forge bellows. Jace wet herself a little as he began to speak.

“I’m what you might call a soldier of fortune,” he declared in a voice far too sexy for his face. “Make me an offer, and I just might fight at your side.”

It took a moment, but Jacelyn composed herself. “How much?” she squeaked.

They struck a deal easily because Jacelyn just paid what he asked. She had planned to try some door locks that night even though she had no fence in Markarth, but she downed a healing potion and tested out her mercenary instead. He didn’t refuse any of her requests. However Jace couldn’t quite summon the nerve to suggest he take a bath.

The next morning Jacelyn’s worst fear was realized. The stable guys had never seen her horse. They did have a war dog for sale, though. Jace already had the services of a war Nord, but she bought the dog anyway. The dog is huge. She might ride it if she never finds her horse.

Progress was slow on foot in the rain with all of the exotic alchemy ingredients calling to her. Jacelyn had no idea which way to walk to Rorikstead. She didn’t want to betray her total ignorance to her partner, so she picked a direction at the crossroads and started out. Vorstag and Vigilance earned their keep the instant they strolled over the first rise in the road. Dragon attack! Jacelyn rose to the occasion fortified by her new ring, an archery circlet, a bizarre and uncharacteristic urge to impress Vorstag, and of course a strong potion she had recently brewed from local juniper berries.

During the aftermath Jacelyn distributed healing potions and gave Vorstag a few of his arrows back from the dragon corpse. It turned out that the dragon had burned up a wagon full of people. Their goods were ruined, but their dog survived. Now Vigilance has a stray dog of his own.

While they were searching the bodies to rescue any coins that had survived the attack, Jacelyn noticed that one of the dead women was wearing a cute pair of boots. Shoe envy is a powerful force. Not quite powerful enough to turn their steps toward Solitude or at least toward the direction that Jacelyn thinks Solitude might be. She still wants to find that fetcher Sam and possibly set her Nord on him, but now she also hopes that there are some nice shops in Rorikstead. She’d like to visit them quietly, after regular hours of course.

No need to remove her thread, unless there's a change of plan it seems she belongs here in the DiD forum. Which makes good sense, since not all of her updates will necessarily be written as a story.

EDIT: The only way I could write above a quote in my reply was to quote and then edit my post, in case anyone's wondering how to do that. :D
