A very exciting tale! I really like how her subconscious directs her feet without her realizing it until it's too late to contemplate! :) Turns the page :book: |

Love it Grits.....wanted to hear a bit more of the fighting. Poor old Vorstag! Glad Jace survived it....she is still DiD isn't she....and Vorstag is not invincible either. Are you playing her on Expert? I can't recall. Also.....meant to say well done cos that tomb is a toughie Edited...used the wrong hear....hate it when that slips by! Thanks, Bram! Jace is not a great thinker, so it’s easy for her heart to take over. :P Rick, thanks! Jace is still and has always been played Dead Is Dead. These story segments are from her early days, re-written to various degrees to fit a story format rather than the player’s update style I used in most of her BethSoft DiD thread updates. I’m hoping to catch her story up to her game here during the Dragonguard contest so she’ll be at the same point in both places. Jace’s game is set on Expert most of the time, bumped up to Master now for dragons and when she’s back in the areas that she has out-leveled. She was accidentally on Legendary for a while due to me forgetting to move the slider back after a contest. This has happened three times, argh! It’s a good thing she tries so hard not to ever get hit. She used a lot of arrows on Legendary, but since she never got insta-killed, I didn’t notice a big difference. She is a thief, so her AR is well under 100, her archery skill is unperked and low for her level, she can’t use Healing Hands at this point, and she has no mage armor spells yet. Vorstag is not invincible, he can be killed by taking damage in the bleed-out state. Like from fire still burning him, or from Jace accidentally shooting him. Jace’s bow damage comes from Sneak perks, a found/ pickpocketed enchanted ring and circlet, her own Fortify potions, and poison on the first shot only. She is not a combat archer. At the time of this adventure she was using an Elven bow she had stolen from Jorrvaskr, unenchanted and unimproved. She loved that bow! |

I love that bow myself. It's very convenient for a low level character. |

Oboy - what a tale! Oops.... Jace has got a bit too attached. Man, she better figure out how to get him clean and some new armor - well, clean should happen in the hot spring. One hopes! |

Kane, if you can believe it in all these years of playing Skyrim, Jace is my first character who had no qualms about stealing from the Companions. So she was my first to ever get that bow! :D Sere, knowing Jace the path to the springs will not be free of obstacles! Andra, I use a follower dialog mod to give Vorstag more variety in his comments, and he had been saying sweet things to Jace. But his nutty AI is all his own, which continues to confound and frustrate her! Areial, yep, and she is not entirely happy with herself over it. She likes to feel buzzed, not conflicted. The next two sections need a complete re-write, maybe I’ll get time for one tonight. Thanks for the kind support, folks! :) edit: spelling Edited by Grits, Jul 21 2016, 12:05 PM.

Jace: page 11 Almost there, Jacelyn told herself. She led her horse Midnight carefully across the volcanic tundra. Vigilance followed at her heels, Vorstag and his horse a short space to the rear. Just another hour, two at most. It was difficult to judge distance through the mist. A camp full of giants and mammoths, a pair of sabre cats, numerous wolves, and several bears had failed to notice their passing. Even the distant dragon had ceased its cries. Jacelyn paused, one hand creeping toward her bow. The dragon. “Vorstag,” she whispered over her shoulder, “can you see where that—” A change in the air pressure gave her an instant’s warning before the dragon landed with a ground-shaking crash in front of her. Midnight screamed and jerked the lead out of Jacelyn’s hand. The horse plunged down a ravine to her left. Vigilance bolted past her, growling. The dragon’s yellow eyes stared right at Jace. It drew its head back and pulled its wings under, but instead of blasting her with flame or frost it began an awkward, hunched over walk straight toward her. Its fangs looked as long as her arm. Jace began to shoot as she moved backward, loosing an arrow each time she placed her feet. The dragon seemed to grin as it matched her step for step, each lunge covering a huge bite of terrain. Jace’s foot slid back to find solid ground, but met a wall instead. She had backed herself into a wide corner, rocks at shoulder height curving away on both sides, with a long drop far to the left. A bear’s enraged roar floated up from the drop. I’m not going to jump on a bear. Jace nocked her last arrow, aiming straight for the yellow eye. She cursed the dragon silently as she released. Faendal’s breathing techniques did not allow for yelling during the shot cycle. As the dragon drew its head back for the bite, a familiar battle cry split the air. Vorstag! The Nord launched himself at the dragon from the higher ground. Jace dove to the left, half-scrambling and half-falling down the steep slope, frantic to keep from damaging her bow. The bear had already started its panicked retreat from Vorstag’s howl. Jace chose to flee in the other direction. By the time Jacelyn worked her way around and back up, the dragon lay dead in the dust, one wing cleft at the joint and a great wound in its neck. Frost stained the ground in wide, white patches and glittered over Vorstag’s back and shoulders. The ruins of two wolves and a sabre cat were scattered nearby. Vorstag began his customary post-battle check of Jace’s person, as if she might have sustained some injury from the dragon that wouldn’t have immediately killed her. Jace stopped him with a hand on his chest. She didn’t want her voice to squeak, so she swallowed a few times before speaking. “That’s how a true Nord fights.” The hot springs were jumping with naked hunters celebrating the slayage of the dragon. Jacelyn stood among the strapping Nords and hard-bodied Redguards feeling like a scrawny child. Then someone put a tankard in her hand and asked her to tell the story. Hours later she made her way back to Vorstag. He lay in the springs with his head propped on a rock, eyes closed and limbs relaxed in the water. Jacelyn noted that his armor sat neatly arranged by her pile of hastily shed clothing. It’s a shame that wasn’t a fire dragon, she thought, imagining his old armor flaking away into ash. She instantly regretted the thought and pinched herself for foolishness. “Hey,” Vorstag said, eyes still closed. He put a hand out to her. Jace closed the distance and made herself comfortable. “It smells like eight kinds of ass here,” Jacelyn murmured. “I thought it was us, but it’s the water.” “Mm,” said Vorstag. “I’m so glad we’re out of Windhelm. Silda said there’s no more she can teach me. I have some new techniques I’d like to try, but not until we’re somewhere I know the guards a little better.” She looked up to see if he was listening. “Like Whiterun.” “I’ll pick up a contract while we’re there.” Yesss! “Maybe I can try my new tricks if it’s a bounty, and if I get caught you can kill them.” When Vorstag laughed he made waves in the water. “New tricks, huh? That sounds promising.” Jacelyn decided she wasn’t too tired tonight after all. She felt around to make sure the rocks wouldn’t scrape her shins. “But before we go to Whiterun… Well, you killed that dragon. Aren’t they supposed to have, you know, treasure?” Edited by Grits, Jul 21 2016, 09:44 PM.

That was a great fight, I loved it! And the stinky water, too funny! Bet they felt good, but I'm thinking Vorstag might have a different idea of those 'promising tricks' than Jace...or maybe it's Jace that does, lol. Rolicking good read Grits! :D |

Yay....nicely done again Grits.....colourful descriptions and nice interactions. Yes sulphurous geysers would smell foul like really strong farts. As a kid we used to be able to buy stink bombs....small glass vials of sulphur dioxide gas to fumigate a room and point at people laughing.....well that was the general idea. Kids would let them off in class! I bet theyre banned now under some H&S bs..... |

Andra, thanks! I expect Vorstag knows a lot more “tricks” than Jace does, I hope he’s not disappointed! Maybe she makes up for it with enthusiasm. :P Sere, thank you! Vorstag has been fun to write with Jace. Rick, thank you! We can still buy those stink bomb vials. Yuck! Areial, thanks! I use that hot springs mod that strips down your follower with a script, and Jensa and Stenvar have experienced a naked dragon battle when the tundra one attacked the hot springs. It was horrifying and hilarious. Those body mod guys do beautiful work. Thankfully Jace and Vorstag’s battle was over before they got to the hunters. Jace: page 12 Jacelyn fastened the last buckle at Vorstag’s shoulder and stood back smiling. “What do you think?” Vorstag executed a series of squats and lunges while pounding himself with his fists in what looked like a random manner. “It took me all day to adjust the fit,” Jace continued, beginning to get nervous. “I did it from memory, but I think I got it right.” She chewed her lip as Vorstag flailed around. His old armor was beyond disgusting, but it was still serviceable. It had taken a long time to find all of the pieces of this new gear for sale. Just getting him to try it on was a victory. Vorstag finally seemed satisfied. He gave her a nod. Jace let out a breath in relief. She had spent so much time at Arcadia’s alchemy lab to get the rest of the money she needed for the purchases before someone else had a chance to buy them, she no longer worried that the citizens of Whiterun might connect their nocturnal losses with her occasional presence at the Bannered Mare. Only an alchemist would pluck every flower in town in a fit of “community pruning” and then spend hours turning them into potions for other people’s use. Even if the guards caught her stealing later, she thought her hard work might play in her favor. Plus, she was a now a friend of both of the town’s mages. She even wore an Amulet of Julianos to give her the appearance of a magister. That should count for something. It had occurred to Jace that running a fencing operation under the guise of an alchemy shop might not be a bad way to spend her middle years. She had never known anyone who lived to be elderly, so old age was not a concern for her. Vorstag certainly did not live as if he worried about the future. For that matter, neither did the dog. For now there was just now. As long as her knees didn’t fail her Jace could sneak and pickpocket all night or at least until she’d stolen more than she’d had to pay the guards. With a warm bed and a crate of wine waiting after work, every day seemed like a new one. All things considered that sounded like a lot less effort than running a shop. Jace couldn’t keep the grin off her face looking at Vorstag. The armor left his arms bare the way they both preferred, and it showed a decent span of bare manly chest. Hopefully not so much as to invite stabbing. “You like it, then?” she had to ask. “Yeah.” Jace didn’t expect him to gush over the new armor. Other than death threats screamed at his enemies, Vorstag wasn’t one to say what he was thinking. When Jace walked into his open arms, he showed her.
