Siara's Song: 6 I'm doomed to disappointment. Falkreath.... well, what a gloomy nasty little place. And this is supposed to be a Hold capital city? I probably should have headed for Cyrodiil for true. Being a mostly honest upright person, I stopped in to the Jarl's Longhouse, prompted by a guard. He'd given me a very strange look. I didn't know why - I mean, surely they must have seen Redguards before? But he watched me like the hawk watches the mouse as it goes about its business, not realizing its life is going to end very soon.... I shivered. I hated feeling like the mouse, had done all my life. The Jarl.... one Siddgeir.... well, what could I say about him? He was.... as slimy as those gits in Elinhir - hmmm, no, that was giving him too much credit since he actually made my skin crawl. Far worse than those Elinhiri, in truth. Once done with his poncing about, I wanted a bath. Skyrim. It sounded clean. There's lots of water. NONE of it in baths, heated. Leki help me. |

Wow Sere, that was wonderful! I like the start from a different province entirely. Can't wait to read Siara's impressions of the rest of Skyrim and its peoples. :) |

She describes Siddgeir perfectly. I've always wanted a bath after dealing with him too. |

We begin.... Siara's Song 7: Leaving Falkreath was like taking a deep breath of clean air after swimming in a sewer. The funny thing is that the hold itself is breathtakingly beautiful - especially for a desert girl, even one from the only wet place in Hammerfell. The air is humid - filling my lungs seems to require a bit of effort, but it's glorious - because each breath is - a garden of delights, the which the gods' houris would not be able to provide. The trees are so tall they reach the sky and brush the clouds with loving fingers. I've never seen trees like these; they're - resinous - in some way. The scent catches in my throat and yet it's a lovely odor - sharp and hard, but smooth as oil. And their leaves - well, they aren't. Leaves I mean. They're - needle-like. Short or long, but slim and sharp. And oh so fragrant. The old leaves on the road made a path of scent and sensation to ride upon. Sad that this glorious place should have such a mean town for a capital - and a misbegotten whoremonger for a Jarl. Very sad. Then again, was it any different from Taneth? Only in size.... And that was a sobering revelation to me: everything was the same, no matter where I was. I didn't like it. But I didn't know if I could change it. I vowed to try. That was wonderful Sere! I could feel, and scent, everything from your descriptions! I hope she finds the rest of Skyrim better than the beginning. :) |

Oh, this girl.... she is starting to have a mindset of "if its wrong, it needs to be fixed.... it NEEDS me to fix it." That's.... a really hard row to hoe, honey. I can't WAIT to find out where this takes us! |

Siara 8: I sighed. WHY did people go into theft and marauding, not to mention just plain banditry, without any abilities in that direction? I suppose when the two I had to kill on the road beyond Falkreath went to talk to their gods, they'd whine about not being given a chance - but had I done so, I'd have been the idiot. My parents raised no foolish children. Only dead ones now. And me. Tears threatened, but I pushed them back. Tears helped no one, solved nothing. I had another brush with idiots calling themselves bandits. There was a lay-by under an overhang off to the right. As I rode into the area though on the road, two men and a woman - all in furs - were shooting (ineptly) at a deer. I stopped, not wanting to interrupt their hunt. They decided I was better game, though certainly not as edible as the deer (who ran off in relief I have no doubt, thanking his own gods for freedom and life). So - I had to do some further road cleanup and bandit extermination. Truly, Jarl Siddgeir owes me a deal already. I took whatever was of value - or edible - and then decided to just stay in the little camp for the night. I was worn.... I unsaddled the horse and brushed him down with a hunk of rough bark. Lots of things I was going to need - and that meant finding gold. I needed to think about that. Finally, having eaten the rabbit that was spitted and done, and having drunk a bottle of ale left there, I pulled the bedrolls all together, turned them so the smell was less, and went to sleep. One thing I've always been able to do - sleep anywhere, no matter what. I hoped, as I faded into unconsciousness, I wouldn't dream. |

Siara- 7&8 - Sere she is wonderful. Her bonding with Nirn around her and seeing the beauty in the tiniest of details and then to be so pragmatic about bandit "clean up". Let us hope that being in Skyrim, if she does dream, they will be peaceful one's from Kyne and not Vaermina! |

Thank you! It's really funny - after Veri, I wasn't expecting Siara to be quite such a handful. I have no idea why.... wishful thinking? But she's definitely "present" - and that means I'm just (again) the scribe.... |

I love the way Siara takes in her surroundings. It makes me feel that I'm there with her. There's plenty wrong in Falkreath Hold alone, she is going to be busy! |

Siara N'Gola 9: Thankfully, if there were dreams I didn't remember them. I was definitely grateful for that. And that sent me into a flurry of thought - was I right about the flood being Dagon's work? I felt it - I felt that he was the author of the disaster. The Lord of Change.... And what more of change than a flood in Hammerfell? But if it were not Dagon.... who then? I wasn't sure. I would probably have to dig into the Princes' spheres of influence. But my gut said Dagon. So I'd go with that for now. And now.... I saddled the horse - hmmm - he needed a name then, didn't he? I'd think on it. Mounting, I headed up the road. Shortly I came upon a - well the ruin of a - town. The gates stood wide, burned and withered. I dismounted, and tied the horse to a sturdy bush. Creeping into the open gate, my jaw dropped as I took in the extent of the devastation. The town was - gone. The wooden buildings were ash and embers. There was a tower of stone that looked to be more or less intact, and another stone building that also seemed fairly whole. But there were no people - only charred bodies.... And yet, the ugliest thing was a headsman's block - with the executioner burned to a crisp next to it, and a body minus its head.... My stomach wanted to revolt. I backed away, turned away, and swallowed hard. I spent a bit of time exploring, to see if anyone lived. No one did. I headed back to my horse with a thankful heart. I didn't know what could have happened here - and I truly did not want to. Floods in Hammerfell, and horrendous fires in Skyrim. I have a bad feeling about this. |

Yeah. And we all know the worst is yet to come. But Siara doesn't know that - so she's thinking about a name for the horse.... |

Siara 10: I followed a road away from the ruin of the town. I was glad to leave it behind me. As we headed downhill, I decided that the horse should be named Go-Batek (transliterated from what little I know of Yoku, meaning "Good Soul"). I'd just call him Bat of course.... "So, you are Go-Batek. I will call you Bat, until you do something stupid - and then I will use the whole name. I hope you like being a Good Soul. You are, and it was very kind of your former owner to give you to me. Blessings of the gods on him, his name and his family. I hope they got home safely...." I'd probably never know one way or the other. But he had been kind and helpful, and I was sorry that the trip had turned so nasty for him and the guards. I turned my awareness outward. This trail switchbacked downward into what I thought was another town. Oh how I hoped this one was in one piece, unlike the last! I took a slight detour, since the trail went ahead because I wasn't paying full attention - into a cul de sac with a couple of bandits.... They were shortly dead, my bow-work being much better than theirs. I took whatever there was of value, and went back to see where I'd got off the right road. Hmph. Obvious. And equally obvious, had I been paying proper attention I wouldn't have had to kill the bandits. Note to self: PAY ATTENTION. You don't know this land.... The town was alive and well. Thankfully. But there was a woman nattering at her son - and the natter was about a dragon! Was that what had fired the other town? Out of the flood into the fire.... I sighed. Please, gods, be kinder! |
