Yeah, I'd like to remove his jewels, and tie him out over a hill of fire ants to bleed while they ate him.... Slime. Him and Belethor.

Oh, I did very much enjoy Adella's "tiffs" with Belethor! It's too bad the guy didn't get to the part with Amalgam and the music.... You should maybe ask if he's going to do the rest?

Yes. And yes (one yes for each of you)! Yeah, Belethor really is better.... though I've never been able to "unhear" that "Do come back...."

Siara's Song 55:

It took us nearly eight hours to find and repair ten sections in the steam system. This was because neither of us could blacksmith parts from the dwemer metal laying all over the place - Andur muttered finally “You should have brought Anki with you instead of me - she’s a wonder as a blacksmith....”

“Nah then” I said, using his own words back at him. “Having you along is good - see how well you take care of all Lahar’s ‘siblings’ when they attack!” As attack they had, and still did. I wondered how many of them there were in total. Surely we would eventually kill them all.... In any case, the constant attacks of these beings were another reason we were so long about the repairs. And distressingly, when we heard what they were saying.... it was nonsense. As if they were simple children - though well armed and vicious. There was definitely something very wrong here....

Returning to the mausoleum, we found.... Lamashtu.... apparently talking to the ghostly woman from the Velothi tunnels - and there was that horrible sound again! When I pushed her about it, she insisted she was alone. But when I mentioned the sound, she said “There was.... a sound. I remember it from long ago.” Then she turned and left the mausoleum. I was becoming worried.

When we finally dragged ourselves out of the mausoleum and back into the Castle, Lahar met us with some good news: it had been obvious when the last repaired section was in place, because the machines in the Castle were now working! I hoped that meant the travel setup - I felt as if we needed to get out of here and back to the Ridge as soon as we could. This had been rather an ill-advised journey the way it turned out, and I didn’t want the family - or Elgial! - to worry.

Unfortunately, the travel room was still not in working order. Lahar seemed to be confused, and suggested we again talk to Lamashtu. I sighed, and finally said “All right. But in the morning. We need baths and food. And sleep.”

The morning brought another problem: Lamashtu started to tell us about something related to the travel room situation - and then began making no sense at all. In fact.... she now sounded like - the siblings.... I shuddered, and hurried to find Lahar, followed quickly by Andur. He was muttering under his breath about things not being good.... Not only true, but rather an understatement.

Lahar was alarmed - well, obviously his face couldn’t show alarm, but his voice seemed to be breathier, and his words came faster. We returned to the roof, where he found Lamashtu as we said - and was seriously troubled.

“She needs a new ‘heart’ gem. It must be an empty one, because the old heart will have to be transferred into it. This is difficult. I must ask you to go back into Nurndural. There is one of my brethren who long ago began hoarding the heart gems - killing many for them. His name is Amalgam. I do not know where he is now. You will have to find him and kill him, and take an empty gem from his body. You must be careful. He was very powerful long ago, and no doubt is more so now.”

I didn’t want to do this. But until we could find a way to make the travel room work, we had no choice. I looked at Andur. He shrugged. We headed back to the mausoleum.

When we reached Nurndural, we heard a strange and beautiful music. It was enchanting. I could have listened to it forever. Andur looked at me strangely when I remarked on it. “I’m tone deaf, can’t sing a note. It’s just noise to me....” Which effectively reminded me that we had a quest here - and not to get sidetracked.

We wandered a bit, killing Gilded when we had to, but able to slink around some without needing to fight. And then I heard the music much louder, near a door beyond the forges. I pushed it open....

*****

Selalla shook her head over Ankeddi’s tale of the trip into Falkreath. She knew her daughter - the Jarl would die on her blade for the dishonor offered her. So, they would have to decide how to arrange it so that none of her folk would take the blame.... as apparently even Denira knew.

She called a meeting after the children were in bed, including - as requested by Anki - Siara’s daughter. When the adults had gathered, she bade Ankeddi and Denira tell the tale. And when they had done, the entire family were ready to head to Falkreath and take the Jarl’s head from his shoulders.

“No. This is not how it can happen. We must.... use subterfuge - we cannot kill him openly. That would put outlawry on all our heads, and our children’s and their children’s unto the last. We must think this through carefully!” There was much muttering and head-shaking, but Selalla knew her folk - and eventually they understood.

Deni spoke up. “Look you. The way to do this is for Anki to agree to his demands, meet him somewhere away from the town, and then have some of you got up as bandits and fall upon them, killing him and taking Anki away tied (so that if any see, it seems logical). That way, all will fall out well for us, and not well for him.”

Selalla laughed internally at the looks on the faces of her folk. Yes, this girl.... was anything but a child....

“That’s a good plan, Deni. I like it!” Ankeddi said. “We’ll talk it through a few days, so that we all know who’s doing what and when. That’s simple enough not to cross anyone up....”

Selalla nodded. “Aye. And now, another glass of wine around, and then to sleep. And let us keep my son and Siara in our thoughts - wherever they are, I feel they are threatened. And do not forget Elgial - he is of us now also, and worthy of our thoughts as well.”

Murmurs of approval followed Selalla as she took Deni to the large hut, and sent her to bed. Deni smiled. She had a place now, and soon she hoped, Siara would return to her. Sleep was not long in coming.

Selalla sat beside the fire, and tried to see her son and his mate in its flaring swirls. She thought she might have a glimpse - but it was too quickly gone. “Leki keep them....”

Yes, there's more.... I'm not really detailing the CC mod, because it's FAR too long (not to mention that I just don't want to spoil it - because some of you will likely play it eventually). But this isn't done by a long shot....

Deni.... she's wanting to be a character. Pretty strange - I've not had this sort of thing happen prior. So it looks like she'll be my next Nord. Grown up of course.... and with referents to Siara's Song....

Odd.

Oooh....this is getting good all around.

Thinking.....the clockwork characters are reminding me of Dr Who's Cybermen....what with real bones inside and all.
Real bones means dead people....and that's where ghosts come from. So...guessing entirely....Lamashtu is that ghost woman...or a relative of.
Extrapolating....maybe the people were not dead when first encased in metal. Maybe they just rotted away over decades after death....leaving the bones inside......if that not it....it should be ;)
Time will tell...its exciting....well done on that Sere!

The dirty Jarl....well...that'll be a toughie for sure. Getting him far enough from the safety of his guard force and Helverd....that'll be a tricky thing.

Yes, Deni has a personality....and its pushing for life......all character tales have that potential. You COULD...when this (Siara's tale) is done revisit the major characters individually in their much later lives...when their days as Siara's family at the ridge are far behind them....what a concept. Like Andurs tale twenty years hence! This is making me think broader......

Anyhow....great stuff Sere....thanks for the 'movies' inside :)

Thank you kind Sir Rick! It's strange - Deni was pushing at me all day as I was playing a new girl for Cliffside Cottage. So it looks like tomorrow I'll be making Deni, and starting her a bit. I'll have to decide what will have happened over the intervening 10 years or so.... but it's definitely an interesting thing.... And - she's very insistent....

Siara's Tale 56:

Termoru went into Falkreath next. He talked to the blacksmith, the innkeeper, the “former” Jarl (what an odd idea....), the priest of Arkay, and some of the children. Returning to the Ridge, he reported after the children were abed.

“The Jarl is never alone, unaccompanied. There is one Helvard, a retainer - called a “housecarl”. It seems he is a bound protector of this - piece of slime known as the Jarl of Falkreath. And as well, the Jarl does not leave the area alone - either Helvard is with him, or two guards, or Helvard and both guards. So.... we must think further on this.”

Anki’s brow furrowed. “Well. I suppose it will depend, in the end, on how much he wants me. I will insist on no extras.... and on removing to.... hmmm.... that watchtower out northwest. It’s not too far. But it’s - secluded. I will have to spin him a tale.... I will think it over. But - hear you all - I WILL have his life.”

Selalla smiled grimly. She knew her children well, and Ankeddi was - probably the most intent on honor, and maintaining her own. So.... Siddgeir of Falkreath was dead meat, though he didn’t know it yet. “Look you all. If there is no other way, Ankeddi will kill him where he sits, and we will be outlaws. The dishonor is too great - we must abrogate it. We should ask Ruptga for his favor.”

There were nods all around, and Deni agreed too - that piece of dog-shit NEEDED to die.... She’d felt his eyes on her, and knew....

*****

“I know you. I watched you as you repaired the pipes. I don’t need you. You may leave.” The oddly musical voice continued with other strange statements. We moved further into this area, looking for the Gilded Amalgam, the apparent owner of that voice. There were odd faces near the ceilings in some areas, with speaking horns similar to those of Lahar and Lamashtu - and we heard that musical voice more clearly as we neared them.

So I thought that this Amalgam must use those faces and speakers as his control over and contact with the other Gilded. It was a very strange situation. These Gilded were - not precisely - alive. But nor were they dead. In fact.... they were - something outside any experience either of us had ever had. In a way, they were frightening. Or - rather - the fact that they had been constructed by some other entity - THAT was the part that made me afraid. I wanted nothing so much as to simply get out of here, and go home. But in order to do that - we had to make the travel room work....

So we continued through this edifice - it was very large, and had many interconnected rooms and passageways. That was a good thing though - because the Gilded inhabiting it talked to themselves continuously, so we were able to avoid most of them. I - was uncomfortable killing so many.... I’m not sure why....

But it seemed Andur felt the same. “I - tire - of killing these.... automata. They are like children, simple in mind. Or.... like children with problems in the mind.... Let us hurry, Lady. I want to be done with this....”

So.... yes. We did find Amalgam, eventually. He was very large, and very furious. And fighting him caused us pain and many wounds. But we prevailed - only to have him retreat so fast we could not keep up with him, and saw him blockade himself beyond a barrier of spear-like contrivances. We could find no way to get through. After slumping to the floor and listening to his appalling pretense of laughter, we finally began to look around the area where we had found him.

Above on an overhead walkway, we stumbled across a - weapon - aimed exactly where we needed it. But there was no way to trigger it. A crumbling note seemed to indicate that the “lever” for the trigger would be found in one of the other buildings in Nurndural.

I was mortally tired. “Andur. Shall we go back to the Castle and start again on the morrow?”

“Aye Lady. There is no safety here. We cannot sleep unless we go back to the Castle.”

So we did. It was a long trek. And we would have it all to do again tomorrow. My heart was sore that I had brought us into this contretemps. I feared we’d never get out.

Andur’s arm came around my shoulders as tears streaked the dirt on my face. “Lady. Be easy. We will do what we must.”

Off... I think the Jarl had better make peace with his deity... <sniffles> Poor Siara, but she has Andur with her and they have a bond they might not yet recognize, where one takes strength when the other flag's.

Great to be able to follow happenings at home as well as with Siara and Andur. I love how the two of them are becoming partners without noticing the shift.

Aw.... you guys are WAY too nice! Thanks a bunch, y'all!

It's really funny how the "home crew" started poking around at me - "write us, you have to tell what's going on HERE, you can't just talk about Siara and Andur!"

These people in my mind....
