A clean death was to good for him, but better for her...for her soul. I think Siara might be getting some hint's about her feelings! Really awesome update!

*squealing*, Sister, that was freaking great, couldn't have been a better end for ol' Siddgeir! (well, could have been slower as he deserved, but it was better your way) :D I feel so bad for Siara, having to kill what she obviously sympathizes for, but as Lamashtu says, they aren't permanently dead. I wonder if all those soul gems left in that other would help them?

Fantastic!

Thanks everyone! Nothing tonight - we just got home from seeing Mary Poppins on stage, and oh MY was it wonderful! It's a long drive though, so I'm dusted....

[Edit: just to explain a bit more about the Dwemer in this mod's world.... They were sick. They had a disease that could not be cured. So they decided to become the Gilded as they were dying. That was a "move the soul into a gem to hold it for the heart, then as the life-force flees, gild the bones in the cauldron, then put the soul gem into the chest cavity" sort of operation. Mostly it didn't work perfectly - because Lahar and Lamashtu are the only two (besides Amalgam) who retained their self awareness. I might have bits of that wrong - I didn't load up a save to verify....]

Family matters 61:

We split up, each of us taking a few of the golden coffin containers - they were shaped strangely, like huge golden ovals; it was obvious where they should open, and as we tested, if one didn’t open we moved on. Eventually one opened - and Shadow was among us, making that horrid noise and using - logically enough - some sort of magic that reeked of shadows.

Lamashtu stood back using magic against Shadow, while Andur and I bracketed the ghost and beat her with our swords. Finally she dissipated.... we didn’t know where she’d gone. I looked at Lamashtu in perplexity.

“She’s hiding again, while she gets her magicka back. We’ll have to find her again.”

So we played hide-and-seek again. With much the same result.... and then a third time. This time it didn’t take as long to find her - and this time, we prevailed. Lamashtu stood over the other part of herself, and watched as Shadow disappeared for good. Lamashtu seemed - distracted. We looked around the Animonculotory a bit, and then returned to the mausoleum. I hoped never to have to see Nurndural again.

Back in the Castle, Lahar met us in the Hall. “You should - see if the travel room is working for you now,” Lamashtu said. Both of the metal people seemed sad - there’s no way to read expression on their faces or in their speaker-horn voices, but that was the feeling I had.

Lahar added “We - would really like you to live here. So we could take care of you. The way we did Ludwig....”

“I - I have others to think of, living in a place in Falkreath Hold. We must return to them first. We will see what happens when we explain all of this to them.” That was as close to avoiding the whole issue of “living there” as I could do right then. “But I think we will eat, bathe, and sleep tonight - and try the travel room tomorrow.”

Which is what we did. In the morning, Lamashtu met us in the travel room. “Are you - well - now, Lamashtu? Now that Shadow is again part of you?”

She said nothing for a long moment. “Well. No. I - thought - I would be myself again once she was brought back into my soul. But - we are both still lost. There seems to be nothing else to be done - but remain lost. At least - I still have Lahar....”

How terribly sad. I didn’t know what to say. I simply laid my hand on her shoulder a moment, and then set the destination to Falkreath; followed by Andur, I entered the machine.

*****
Ankeddi spoke to Selalla a bit later in the morning, telling her what had occurred but not going into detail. “I do want to know of the cure Deni seems sure can be had - but I think.... not until Siara and Andur - and Elgial - return. I will have no change for another moon, so should they not return before then, well.... then we will see what to do.”

Selalla looked at her daughter. ‘She is - no child now; and has not been for long and long though I wouldn’t see....’ “That is well. I do not want any more of us off on long quests for any reason until we know what has happened to them. I am - fearing for them. And I’ve heard no more from Elgial. But then, the second fortnight is not gone yet....”

“No. True. Well, we must count through the second one, before we start trying to find them I think. That’s why they did what they did....”

‘She will make a fine matriarch, she will. Even if she doesn’t lose the wereblood....’ Selalla thought she’d underestimated Ankeddi, and that was a poor way to be a mother. “Anki, I’m...”

She stopped as Ankeddi held up her hand. “No. Do not say it. You have nothing to apologize for. A parent will always think of her lastborn as a child. It can’t be helped - it’s the way life and parents are made. I understand.” Anki knelt beside her mother, and putting an arm around Selalla’s shoulders, gave her a hug and said, “I love you mama. Never doubt it. I would rather have never had to tell you about the wereblood and the change - but life falls as it will. And look you - in this case, it was a good thing after all!”

Selalla grinned wryly. “Oh, aye. And that brings a thought. I think we should go to Falkreath. As many as would like to - because if we go into the city, they will never think that we could have had anything to do with their missing Jarl and his guards.”

“Oh, mama! A good thought, you are too clever by half. Let’s see who might like a day of trading. Ah, you know, Arnem might even have a horse or two to sell.... These folk of Skyrim seem to like the look of our beasts....”

Sad for Lamashtu and Lahar. I hope the darn machine works, that Siara and Andur can get the hell out of there! Ugh, not a place I'd want to live, for certain!

Wonderful scene with Anki and Selalla, it warms the heart. :)

Wonderful Sere!

That was a lovely scene between mother and daughter. Great idea to go into town, they will get the news of the missing Jarl and hear what folks are saying about it. Siara and Andur’s ordeal felt like there couldn’t be a happy result for the metal people, but it seems that they are better off than when Siara and Andur arrived. It will be great for them to get out of there!

Family Matters 62:

Falkreath was about as busy as any of them had ever seen it. Almost the entire family had decided to go to town - only the mages had stayed behind. They wanted to try contacting Elgial by scrying, and Dorani had left her 6 month girl-child Melchi with her older sister Enneki, nominally under Nokkara’s watch.

Selalla parked the wagon outside the gates, and one of the guards helped her down. “I thank you. I’m not so spry any more!”

He chuckled. “Eh, neither is me mum. But she won’t take the help offered, silly old woman.” But he said it with some pride.

“None like to get to a point where help is needed. Sure, and I could get down myself, but it’s nice to have a kind younger help me out!” She gave him a small salute, and he nodded as he walked back to his post.

‘Interesting. They act as if nothing’s wrong at all.’ She caught Ankeddi’s eyes, and got a shrug and lift of brows in return.

Arnem said to the gate guard on the other side, “I’ve a couple of animals I’d like to sell to a good master. Could you give me any information about who’d be best to approach?”

The guard looked the horses over. “Them be dif’rent than we ever see. You’d wan’ ta talk ta yon blacksmith - he’d have the knowing who might look fer something like these beasties. Wisht I had th’ septims, an’ a place ta keep one on ‘em....” His regret sounded genuine.

Arnem decided to push just a bit. “You don’t think the Jarl would want to buy them as mounts for himself and his housecarl?”

The guard scratched his neck under his helm. “Wull.... dunno. He niver said nothin’ about horses n all before, an’.... eh, wull.... things be dif’rent now.”

Arnem just nodded wisely, and let be. He turned to escort Selalla to the General Goods merchant, muttering under his breath, “Remember - he’s always on about not stealing, as if we would! But....”

“Aye, my son. I remember. Deni, come along with me. I think you could use some clothes - you have little enough. And - how would you like a wooden practice sword?”

Deni skipped up to the matriarch and the man to whom she’d been bound over when her mother left. “Oh, another pair of trews would be nice. But.... I’m not sure about the sword. It seems - I might wait until Siara’s back, before deciding to start some sort of training?”

Selalla and Arnem nodded. Arnem said “Yes, your mother should talk it over with you. Though if you have the aptitude and the interest, you should follow them perhaps. In our family, no one is put to any job or trade which he or she finds objectionable. See you - you are good with the horses, even though you didn’t wish to be left with me, as who could blame you? But the horse trades will always keep you fed and sheltered.”

Deni nodded, understanding the unstated part: “but if you don’t want to follow the horse trades, we will accept your decisions.” She - appreciated that her birth-mother had left her with the best of all possible options.... It hadn’t seemed so at the time, but of course, things change as you begin to realize that much worse could have happened....

By the time the family had returned to the Ridge that evening, richer by the price of the two horses (bought on the “Jarl’s behalf” by Nenya the steward), and having eaten well at Dead Man’s Drink, they were quietly speculating on the fact that NO ONE in the city had indicated there was anything unusual going on.

Before Deni went to bed, she settled against Selalla and whispered, “That was very strange, matri!” That was the word of her own she’d come up with to designate the family’s ruling member, and in a way, a sort of granddam.

“Aye, Deni. Very. Well, we shall do what we normally do, and seven-day next, we will go back to town to see and hear what may be.”

*****
As we stepped into the machine, my heart was jumping - I think I expected that, again, nothing would happen. However - after a moment of disorientation, we - were - elsewhere. By the trees and fragrance, it had to be Falkreath. We were actually in a small hut, and exiting we saw we were just outside the walls - thankfully where none could overlook our coming and going. Instead of going into the city, we simply headed for the Ridge. It was hard not having the horses, but we hadn’t wanted to go to Kynesgrove first - and there were still several days until the end of the second fortnight.

As we neared the gate, the guards set up a shout. Well.... at least there WERE guards now, quiet or not. Then again, I supposed I couldn’t blame them for being relieved enough at our return to shout....

The - catching up - was.... disquieting. And startling. Andur put his arms around Selalla and Ankeddi, one on each side, and Deni settled against my shoulder. “So.... they never said a word about the Jarl gone missing? That’s.... strange....”

Ankeddi nodded. “Very. We’re not sure - what’s toward. Mama says we’ll go back at the seven-day, and see what’s toward.”

“A good thought. We must get back to Kynesgrove, and bring Elgial and the horses home. There is - much to tell.... But now is not the time. First we must be all together again. And then, we must determine if there is any possible thought that we are to blame for the Jarl’s disappearance.

“After.... well, it’s a tale you may not believe. We have much gold now, though it was hard won. So at the least we can start upgrading the mine....”

Selalla looked at Siara closely. She seemed - worn, and upset, and disturbed. And unhappy. “You and Andur need food and sleep. It’s a long way to Kynesgrove....”

“Ah. Not so much. I don’t want to go back - but the Castle (the place we lately came from) holds a fast way to every hold. In this case, I believe we should use it, to come up with Elgial before he thinks we are dead.”

Andur nodded his agreement. And then Arnem took him off for drink and talk, and Siara took Deni off to bed.

“May I go with you tomorrow, mama?”

“Aye. It is safe now, and I’ve missed you!” She gathered the girl into a hug, then sat her down on the bed. “You had a bath earlier, and a hair washing, didn’t you?”

“Yes. I thought you would come today....”

Siara looked her over thoughtfully. “Did you. That’s good!”

Deni smiled, kissed Siara’s cheek, and said softly, “I am SO glad you are home, mama!”

Sere, that was so wonderful!! Siara and Andur got home safe, but I about bawled at the last, Deni was so happy to see her mama....

So strange that the town is not talking, perhaps they don't know yet, think he's just visiting elsewhere? But it couldn't have happened better, hehe.

I can't wait for more. :D

Yes, the travel machine works both directions. Each city has a terminus outside its walls, locked to anyone without the key.

Siara's Song 63:

The travel room in the hut outside Falkreath’s walls was a revelation to Denira. “This.... it’s.... magick. I know it is. There’s a - mechanical? - part too - but it only works if the magick is available.”

I looked at my daughter, then at Andur. We might need to have Betta, Elgial and Nokka doing some teaching.... He nodded - obviously the same thought had crossed his mind. “Deni, how do you - see - all that?”

“I don’t know. It’s just - obvious.”

Well, if that wasn’t the marker trait for a mage aborning, it should be! So. We’d see to it when we finished this current imbroglio. I set the point for travel to Windhelm, and as we exited there, I said “Good thing it’s not far to Kynesgrove.... we’ll make it before dark.”

And we did, walking at a pace that didn’t push Deni. As we entered the inn, Elgial shouted in relief. “Siara, Andur, Deni! It’s so good to see you! I have worried.....” I’m sure he had.

We ordered a meal, and drinks for all. I whispered to Elgial “I want to go look at the horses. It’s not that I think they’ve not been cared for, but.... well, I’ve missed them....” He grinned and nodded. I took Deni with me.

The horses were.... fat. I rolled eyes looking at them. It hadn’t occurred to me that they might be overfed.... Deni giggled. “Oh mama.... I guess they thought if a little food was good, more was better?”

I sighed. “Looks like it - and of course they didn't get any exercise.... Well, they don’t seem foundered, so.... we’ll be off in the morning.”

And we were. We took it easy, until we could see how the horses were reacting to their first work in a few weeks. Andur was grumbling about idiots and leaving horses with same, but we’d had little choice after all - because I had pushed going into the mountain.... He glanced at me, shook his head, and grimaced. I knew that meant I should stop blaming myself.

It was a reasonably fast trip home. Slow of course, compared with using the Castle’s travel room - but that couldn’t be done with animals. The whole thing about the Castle, as well as Lahar and Lamashtu played over and over again in my mind. I was sure Leki was trying to tell me something. And then, there was the situation in Falkreath - what on earth was going on with those folk? Nothing had been said about the missing Jarl. And everything was going along just fine - or so it seemed.

Well - it was time for me to take a hand. There was the need to determine the terms of our holding of Knifepoint Ridge - get it in writing from the Steward Nenya. I wanted the tax payments and schedule set out firmly, as if in stone. So. I would go into Falkreath after we were home a few days, and see what could be seen.

When we reached the Ridge, the whole family was waiting. We were all embraced, gathered in. As an expression of caring, it was - far more than I could handle. At that moment I more than missed my home, my family, everything taken from me by Dagon. I vowed again to reap a whirlwind of retribution from his soul.

How I would accomplish that against a daedric prince, I didn’t know. But somehow.... I would do it.

Very good! Yes wise to get that terms of lease ratified and set solid.

" imbroglio" how odd.....its one of the interesting words I had committed to memory since my late teens....but almost never get around to using. Impecunious is another. Can't use such words in daily speech around my mates though....they would laugh at such an esoteric vocab and then I'd have to explain it all.....(rolls eyes)
