Uh. I have a HUGE vocabulary. And I get a monstrous kick out of using it in convos with the local versions of village idiots.... because at bottom I'm a total bitch. So yeah, if you were wondering if I talk that way IRL.... yes, I do as a matter of fact. Edited by Serethil, Sep 5 2016, 08:50 PM.

Ah, for me it is different....I actually tune my communications to match what I perceive to be the nature of my audience. I do so without thought. I had an office job for twenty years with people of a definite middle class mannerism. I spoke nicely...correctly and matched their eloquence. Not just the words of course...the phrasing and pauses are all part of it. Later in life I ended up in a driving job delivering auto parts to repair garages. My colleagues there were a completely different crew and using much more than "ello mate ahs it goin' " whilst sounding like Delvin Mallory.....would get you laughed out of the depot with sarky remarks of being a posh tw@t. The result is I can blend in easily with a broad social strata, like a chamealeon .....though not with the upper class...I would not get such opportunity....and they would peg me as common immediately. My received pronounciation leaves much to be desired technically ;) Oddly though.....the real upper class....aristocracy, like Adella ;) well they do not in fact try to belittle or talk down to the working classes....such deliberate scathing effort is beneath them. So they speak to the likes of me without prejudice in their voice. I quite enjoy studying people....almost a minor hobby.....almost :) |

I gave up "blending" when I was - 18.... I think. I am who I am. If people can't deal with me on that basis, well.... I just don't know what to tell them. Yes, when working (with the welfare dept of a state, or with a trucking company) I did "modulate" my conversation (in other words - I can and did outcuss the idiots.... As you may - or may not - know, my dad was ex-Army, and my first husband in the Navy). But in general, IRL, I speak exactly the way I write - which in my current locale, is FAR above the local norm when it comes to vocab, not to mention innuendo and asides. That would be THEIR problem, not mine. |

Oya... very nice! Budding mage..? to smart, with an old soul... My speech is... my own, a blend of everything. My part of Florida was and is a melting pot... I can mimic most accent's given the time to listen to them...a week and I'll leave ya guess'in. I can blend with most of society.. if I wanted to.. My Great Aunt was big on manners and mannerism's... She said the rich were only people and the best of Society where those with good manners and mannerism's, the rest are trash with money. |

Glad to see they made it home safe and sound! My speech habits are....odd. I'm very well versed, due to being a bookworm all my life, and it reflects in conversations. But, no matter what, my Pittsburgh accent always seems to creep in at times. |

I have no accent. I've been told my voice is "flat" due to said lack of accent. *shrug* We moved out of the plains states when I was about 3, and since we moved around until I was 11, I think I just was never anywhere long enough to develop one. Kentucky, Texas, California, Texas, then to Nevada, where I lived until I was in my 40s - then we moved here. The one accent I can guarantee I will never acquire is the way they talk here - the "natives" I mean. Husband, though a native, doesn't talk like them either since he spent 40 years in Vegas.... |

Accent's don't usually bother me, but as I've gotten older the Pittsburgh accent rubs me the wrong way. Love this town, but the people just sound ridiculous sometimes. :P |

Heh, those type of accents don't really bother me, cause I rarely hear them. Pittsburgh accents aren't hard to understand, I just can't stand the way some words are enunciated. |

Well, now I understand the "Clockwork" part of the mod. The way you described it and worked it into the story makes it seem like an immersive adventure. Can't say I feel much pity for Siddgeir, though I do have to wonder what's going on in Falkreath. Kinda creepy how they just ignore his absence. Anyways, I'm not a native English speaker and though I have a better grasp of it now that my native language I have a habit of picking up certain...dialects and mashing it into my messy "Buffy Speak." (Before I would never use words like "totes" or "dude." I started using them ironically and suddenly it's part of my vocabulary.) When I started my first summer at the state university (summer programs and paid internships, yes) I sometimes had trouble conveying what was on my mind. Getting confused "what?"s was common. :V |

monkey - Clockwork is the single best quest mod I've ever played in any game. I can't recommend it highly enough! Family Alf'agar 64: Two days later, I rode alone into Falkreath, tied Bat to the blacksmith’s hitch-pole, and walked into the Longhouse. Nenya stood to greet me. “It is good to see you, Siara N’Gola. What may I do for you?” “I would like to get things set out in a businesslike manner, as regards the taxes Jarl Siddgeir requires from us for use of the Ridge; exactly how much, and how often, you know.” She looked me over carefully, and then said calmly, “Well, Jarl Siddgeir seems to have got himself killed somehow - at least, we aren't sure what's happened, but.... So his uncle, Dengeir, the original Jarl after his father’s death, is now sitting in the Jarl’s chair again. We will have to talk to Dengeir - he may like to readjust the situation with the taxes and so on.” I let my brow furrow as if I were shocked and perhaps distressed. “What happened then to Siddgeir? This is a shock....” “We don’t.... really know. He - ah - well.... I thought he had a rendezvous set up with a woman from the way he acted. He took two guards and Helvard with him, as always when trysting. I - had no way of knowing where he would be going, and apparently none of the others said anything to anyone either. That was days ago. None of them have returned. We’ve sent as many guards out as we can spare, and none of the bodies - if bodies there are - have been found. It’s - worrying. But at least we have Dengeir, who knows how to run the city, after all.” My mouth was literally open in shock. Which of course was exactly the reaction I should have had! “That’s.... horrible, Nenya. How sad.” Of course I didn’t think any such thing, but something must be said.... She smiled a little grimly. “Yes. Well. Let’s talk to Dengeir, shall we?” I followed her to the Jarl’s dais. I bowed to the older man briefly, and giving him fist to heart in salute, I said “I am saddened to hear of Siddgeir being missing, Jarl Dengeir.” He looked at me with a glint of something - odd - in his eyes. “Yes. Well, I thank you. But we’ll manage fine with or without him; after all, I was Jarl before he was out of short pants. What can I do for you today?” They were - going to brush it under the rugs. Good enough. “I would like to have set out in an actual contract what taxes we owe on Knifepoint Ridge, and when the tax payments must be paid over. We have begun work on improving the property, and will be starting to delve some new mine stopes before long.” Dengeir steepled his fingers in front of his mouth. This was a canny old man - I found it more than odd that his nephew had been preferred as Jarl.... but since it wasn’t really any of my business.... “What did Siddgeir say about the taxes? And how often?” “He said 500 septims, every sixth moon. I have the deed to the property, but nothing in the way of a written contract, setting out the tax burden and times of payment - nor what we need to do as improvements in order to keep the property. And while I paid the 500 he asked when he asked it, and Nenya witnessed it, I did not get a receipt for it....” “You’re a clever businesswoman. I like that. Nenya - write her a receipt for the taxes already paid. Draw up a contract showing that the 500 septims is due once every sixth moon from the first payment already made; and include that the improvements already begun are sufficient to prevent the property being removed from their possession.” “Jarl Dengeir, I thank you. That relieves my worries. Now, I am also bid to say that our horse-master Arnem would have two more horses to sell should you like those as well as the other two.” He grinned, seeming suddenly much younger. “That’s a good thing. I have in mind to put a stable and carriage here - we haven’t one, and it would put us on better footing with the other cities. Your horses are different than ours by a great deal - but I don’t think that’s going to be a problem....” I bowed, and backed away to follow Nenya to her office. And rode home fully satisfied. After night meal, the family gathered in the “house” - the most solid building available. It was a squeeze - but we must talk, and very quietly. I detailed the situation in Falkreath, as well as the upshot of the contract with the Jarl produced by Nenya. And told Arnem what the current Jarl had in mind. The family was quiet. Selalla and Andur shook their heads. Arnem said softly “It is good - they are pleased that the other Jarl is gone, and with his guard-toadies too. The carriage and stable - this is a good thing. I am pleased - the horses will be well there, and we will have much gold from the sale of them as they need more.” I nodded. “So I read it, brother. The steward and Jarl could not say plainly their relief - of course not - but that’s what I felt from them.” Anki relaxed a bit. She’d been concerned - because if there was any inkling of her involvement, she’d have to leave. And things were - fine - here. Perhaps she could find the cure soon.... |

The scene, with Nenya and Dengeir, perfectly done! Of course, I wonder if they'll ever find anything left of Siddgeir, though I think it would be fitting for all to know for certain that he's dead as a doorstop, hehe! Doesn't matter , now the family can carry on. Siara is a great actress too. :D This was wonderful Sere! :) |

Bodily remains of Siddgeir? Well flesh rended bones maybe! And of course Anki did not go out with a bucket an mop.....so dried blood should be coating much. But it changes nothing....Dengeir is a good man....Lod says so! Though as you say 'canny'. He sounds like a paranoid mumbling fool at times, but his mind is just working out all the angles....hes sharp enough! Glad the family is on a more stable footing with County Hall....you can't build meaningfully under constant threat of eviction....or compulsary purchase order! (Do you have that legislation in the US?) |

Compulsary purchase order? we have a "right of way" act where they can "take" ( paying fair market value) property that is needed for roads. Florida in-acted a "Greenways" act, in certain places, they said you can't build on X piece of property and would either pay for it or just deny any building permits. Usually these where properties that kept swath's of land "green" for animal's to be able to get from one "wild" area to another. |

Yes...right of way act sound the same.....basically you can't refuse to sell up if they insist on driving a new motorway right through your property. Greenways act....we have a similar, but nationwide, allocation of land. Its either development...or brown belt (industrial/ commercial) or Greenbelt (agricultural and/or restricted build). Land for development is naturally very expensive....Greenbelt is way cheaper, but I think there's even purchase restrictions on land owned by the crown and local authority. Horrendously complicated stuff....run foul of it and you could find your new built plot is denied planning permission etc.... Sere....apologies for the 'aside' <cough> back on track :) Edited by Rick, Sep 7 2016, 09:46 AM.

Siara's Song 65: “Nah, then, Deni. You must lesson in everything - if you wish magecraft, you have to have a solid base in reading, writing, figuring - and that includes memorizing. So?” Elgial slanted a glance at the girl. She sighed, but nodded. “Aye, it is so, Elgial. I know I’m not a total barbarian, but I also know I don’t know everything I must. So.” He grinned at her, and she grinned back, in charity with him now. It was hard for her to rein in her nature - gypsy-like, she’d run wild and now must change. But - she wanted this. Magecraft felt - right - to her. So, she would learn. She would behave, to learn. The lessoning began with Elgial. But some weeks later, he knew she’d already outmatched him. “Betta.... One of you two must take Deni now. I can teach her nothing more.” “So fast? Hmm. Well, Nokkara?” “Aye. I’ll take her up. If she’s so quick.... well, you’ll have her soon enough then!” ***** Siara walked out of Dead Man’s Drink, hoping to get home before dark. Suddenly a man ran up to her, and she shied back from him, her hands going for her swords. “Been looking for you - you’re damn hard to find. Got a pamphlet from a new museum for you. Looks like that’s it, got to go!” A courier. He ran off as Siara tried to stop her heart from jumping out of her chest. Her hands were shaking as she opened the pamphlet. A new museum in Dawnstar. Well, someday she might have time to think about things like museums. ‘Dawnstar. I’ve not been there. Well, I don’t have time right now.’ But there was something bothering her, nudging her.... She ignored it, mounting Bat and heading for the Ridge. And what was she going to do about the nudging over the Castle, and the two Gilded left there alone? ‘I don’t know - what to do.... about anything. How can I be so lost?’ Andur met her in the stables. “Nah then. Nothing’s wrong. You were later than I thought....” “Andur.... I’m.... lost. I need to deal with Dagon, with Hammerfell. And what should I do about Lahar, Lamashtu, the Castle? I know they think I - we - should live there.... I feel their loneliness even from here. And Anki - what’s to do for her? Or Deni....” He folded her into his arms, cradling her close. “See you.... You are trying to do everything for everyone. When do you have time to do somewhat for you? And for me.... Siara, do you not know that I love you?” I looked up at him from wet eyes. Well.... I had thought.... but - I hadn’t known. Now I did, what would I do or say? Nothing as it turned out. He set his lips on mine - and fair kissed me senseless. I felt - things I’d never felt before.... Poor Amark.... “Here now. Enough of that.” Selalla’s voice carried through the darkness and the heat. “If you want more than that, you’ll have to do it the right way, then, won’t you?” Aye. We would. |
