Y'know, when it comes to going up against deities, I learned my lesson in Oblivion. I was probably the deadliest archer/assassin around - one-shotting damned near everything and very high level. I found myself in Sheograth's Palace one day... I was at the very end of the hall at the farthest distance from the Big guy, and I just couldn't resist... I dropped into a crouch, drew my bow and loosed my arrow. The whole thing took three seconds start to finish... Sheogorath had a look of mild surprise on his face as he admired the arrow protruding from the center of his throat, then he looked up at me with a puzzled expression on his face... and suddenly I could not move, not even a blink. Sheogorath got off of his throne, and slowly walked over to me. From a distance of just a few inches he looked me directly in the eyes and cocked his head from side to side as though trying to figure out just what kind of idiot he was looking at. After a few moments, he walked back to his throne, but I was now the newest statue in his palace, and never moved again. Taught me something, it did... |

Oh lordy! What a game-ender, huh? Now I might have been tempted to try to off other Daedra, but not Sheo. I don't acknowledge him - all his questlines are total PITA crap, I just won't go there.... Then again, I KNOW they can't be killed, so I probably would never bother. |

You can't 'off' any Daedra....they don't exist in Mundus. They are merely 'represented' on Nirn. Even minor Daedra are not killed per se, go speak with the Golden Saints in their mission to light the sacred flame. They will tell you how it is for them when their animus is killed on Nirn. Daedric Princes in particular only appear as they wish to seem to you....gender age and physical form are all variables to them. Some of their physical representations do have a health stat.....but its in the many thousands and being esssential they will not actually die physically anyway. I know how I would deal with Mehrunes Dagon.....but this ain't my story to tell :) |

Oh, I really didn't think I'd be able to kill Sheogorath, I just wanted to see what would happen... :) Besides, how many people can say they've sunk an arrow into a god? |

Actually, unless there's lore about it not being able to happen, I'm assuming that if you got a sufficient number of princes together, they COULD kill one prince. And I don't know if there's lore addressing that. My tales aren't.... um.... solidly based in "lore". |

One has to assume that if a deity is immortal, that he/she can't be killed... except perhaps under extreme circumstances... and then only in a particular sense. Lorkhan for instance was "killed" but the death is described more as a "sundering" of Lorkhan from his heart, and whatever was left of him yet was exiled to wanders through creation. BTW Rick, I took my pot shot at Sheo in the Shivering Isles, which is Sheogorath's personal plane of Oblvion, and NOT part of Mundus... I caught him "where he lives", so to speak. The normal rules regarding Mundus don't apply... This is why Sheogorath was able to contemplate the killing of Jyggalag as a possibility. Although, Camoran had a theory that Mundus itself is just another plane of Oblivion, but this is generally attributed to Camoran's madness rather than any factual basis. |

I tend to the view that "immortality" in deities has more to do with the strength of their believers. And that's DEFINITIVELY not lore in TES. But hey, you don't want me to turn things my own way, you don't give me an open world to play in. Of course, without that open world, I wouldn't BE playing the game.... |

Neil....Ah yes, my learned friend so it is :) Although Sheo wasn't trying to kill Jyg' but rather interupt the play of events that cyclically lead Sheo to revert his form to the Prince of Order. The Daedra has all had enough of Jyg' and banished him by switching him into the antithesis of the Order he so loved....chaos..Sheo. Of course for "us" visiting the SI....Jyg's idea of order is to remove life entirely because life introduces hateful variables. Not good! I'm not sure Camoran was so far wrong with that idea....but how could you prove or disprove the theory. Meta..... I also...for my own little plane of mundus in my x360....like to consider how we (as in Rick) fits in to the equation. I exist outside of mundus and their planes of Oblivion...I am beyond Aetherius. I can kill them all...even the divines (off button ha!) I create life...bend time and see into their world from a direction they can't see back along. In a similar way Daedra can spy on their mortal plane without being seen. I try explaining all of this to her ladyship...but she don't get it properly...yet! ;) Edited by Rick, Oct 14 2016, 09:15 PM.

Well, Rick, that's all well and good. Each person plays a game that fits her or him. I don't get that involved with lore etc. I'm far more interested in the interactions between people, beginning with those I invent and going on from there. Hmmm. Maybe there needs to be a "Strict Lore" forum? Reminder:

There's a quote that happens far more often... It's very similar to your first quote there Serethil, but it's not about becoming a monster, only suffering the changes that battle brings. "We tend to become that which we hate..." In life, we tend to become our parents, or the authority figures we rebel against with our youthful exuberance. |

I look at Lore as a guide-line... their are no absolutes in the world of Nirn... ie Dragon's are Immortal... until the Dragonborn kills one and absorbs it's soul. The Princes and Divines are immortal... until one find's their weakness. |

Siara Part Two; 22: Deni whispered “Just.... wait, Mama. The others are coming....” Others? What? And suddenly a huge wind screamed through the open area, nearly picking us up and carrying us off. And when it was gone, there were now three daedra where before there’d been only Dagon. Vaermina and Sanguine.... I probably looked like I’d been hit in the back of the head with a tree trunk. Deni tapped her foot, and then touched her chin with a forefinger. And before I could think what to say or do, she stepped forward a bit. “So. See you, Dagon. You are all three here foregathered now. I - think - you might have forgotten something....” Vaermina’s cold nightmare of a voice snarled and growled. “Aye. He did. He promised no one left alive.” I winced, my soul sore again. These cold things that people worshipped as gods - inhuman, unhuman, uncaring, unfeeling... I wished I COULD kill them. But I knew better, so I just tried to possess my soul in patience. Sanguine spoke up. “Truly sister, he has failed. Why, brother, did you do this to begin with? And read me no lines about owing a death to those folk in that area, please you!” Dagon laughed, a singularly weak and ineffective one. “They DO owe me recompense - one of them was instrumental in reaving my Razor in the beginning!” He turned to me and bent his regard on me - and I refused to show any strain. “HOW did you escape, whelp?!” I shrugged. “I just did. Why should I tell you?” I could see fury cross his features, but he made no move to strike me down. I noticed from the corner of my eye Vesuius inching to the altar, then putting the Razor’s pieces into the front of his robe. Well, that was fine with me. Vaermina snarled, and this time I couldn’t quite understand the words. But Sanguine said “No. This woman has done nothing but live when our brother had determined she should die. Well, he couldn’t effect that - so in essence, he has failed, and will have to give over the chase for revenge.” By this time, Vesuius was long gone - likely down the path; and if he was smart, he’d head for Dawnstar as fast as he could, gather his belongings, and maybe go into Cyrodiil for a while.... until the heat of daedric regard cooled moderately. The other two daedra bent their intent on Sanguine - and he simply stood coolly, ignoring them while he looked us over with some motive. I didn’t know what, but I wasn’t happy about the way he watched Deni and to a lesser extent Elgial. Vaermina eventually erupted into raging frothing volubility, none of which was understandable, and finally a huge boom echoed as she shrieked in fury and disappeared. Dagon stood immobile. What? Sanguine smiled a lopsided and almost human - almost likeable - smile. “I put a small geas on him for long enough to let us discuss this without his.... input. “Siara N’Gola, you did completely undo the efforts of my brother and sister - without even trying. All you did.... was live. And you took to yourself other lives that had no place in the revenge Dagon was intent on. And THAT is why he did not succeed. I’m not likely to explain it to him. I’m - I suppose you can say - the ‘balance’ - against the other two doing more damage than they have already. I can’t say I’m exactly on your side - but I’m not exactly on their side either. If you see what I mean.” Oddly enough, I did. “Thank you. But now what? I have all these folk to care for - and I can’t do that with Dagon breathing death down our necks!” And of course, my thought ran on past that to ‘Oh gods - the baby and the other children’.... Sanguine smiled again. “Ah. Children. I’ve often wished to know how it would be to have a child....” I must have gone sheet white, because he waved a hand in dismissal. “No no! Nothing to do with your family and its children. However - what to do next. Well, if I were you all I’d find somewhere to go out of Skyrim for a while. Other provinces are not as open to daedric princes and their machinations....” He held up that hand again. “No. Do not tell me where.” And just that fast, I knew exactly where to take us. One last smile, a wave of both hands to send Dagon off somewhere, and then he left us alone, exposed on the mountain. Edited by Serethil, Oct 15 2016, 10:17 PM.

Hee exactly as I knew it would go! I would have had Dagon delt with by the other Daedra too....because in the end it's all you can do.....as a mortal. Its good she held her nerve....Daedra despise weakness even more than insolence. Now she has a tale to pass to her children and them to their's. Its not every day you get to look a god (lets not split hairs) in the eye let alone three! :) Edited by Rick, Oct 15 2016, 09:31 PM.

You do know! She would have been dead....all of them probably! Mortals are zero to Deadra They are merely curious about the mortal condition because they cannot experience the thrill of life as we do (and that is lore...paraphrased) |
