Siara's Tale 28: Bruma was a good three weeks of riding - not hard riding, just steady. We camped at a reasonable hour, cooked meals of whatever we’d managed to kill, talked some. But the flood was still too raw a subject, and we had little enough in common outside being Redguards from Hammerfell. Besides, he insisted I was liege - and that left me feeling awkward even without the rest.... So while we might have been said to get to know each other better, we were still not exactly friends. He companioned me on this journey, and called me Lady, but I felt as if he were still the hired caravan master. That was a lack in me, I thought. I’d had no “lordly” background to draw on - I was a simple girl from a small swamp town near the sea. Perhaps - had I had the lordly to display for the prince in Taneth, she’d have done more than wave me away? I shrugged the thought away impatiently - I am what I am, and there’s an end of it. “Your brother, Andur. What does he in Bruma?” “He has a stable and horses to sell outright, or rent for a short time. We all worked horses, our family. Some of us in caravans, some as guards, some in armies, some as stablemen, some as carriage men. My aunts, mother, and sisters handle the breeding stock, and also teach the children as they arrive. The horses have been good to us.” He paused and paled a bit. “I.... wrote to my mother - because I worry.... I have heard nothing from her. It could be that....” He swallowed, and shook his head. And here I was so wrapped up in my own sorrow I hadn’t thought to consider his! What sort of liege lady could I be to him, so oblivious? “Andur. The sooner we figure out which princes are responsible, the sooner we can start to fix things.” I hoped. But of course, hope is by no means certainty.... and by his eyes I could see that he knew that as well as I did. “Lady.... you know you have no folk left. And that’s a sadness that may never leave you. I’d - rather that knowing, than this - sitting on a spike waiting for another to drop on my head....” Poor man. I understood all too well. Tears welled in my eyes - for both of us. Tears were the only thing I could offer. And that hurt my soul. “Nah then, Lady. Things are what they are. We will deal as we can with them. Arnemdur may have heard from our mother or other family. We will hope for that. Have you any idea from your map how far now, how long?” I unrolled the scrap-map and tried to figure where we were. Near Falkreath, somewhat to the east and south; though I had no interest in entering the town. That was all to the good. I remembered from the maps I consulted in Taneth that Bruma would be on a nearly direct line south from us, and I so informed Anduraga. “Good. Soon we will be where I have family.” “Well, it’s still a good week, I think, or maybe a fortnight, depending what the road hands us.” And it wasn’t even exactly a road.... We would be lucky to find a sketch-trail to follow. Still, soonest begun, soonest done. My da’s mother had said that over and over all my life.... So we began. |

Wonderful! I really like how Siara knows who she is, but also what Andur is comfortable with, and acts accordingly, even to her own discomfort. She doesn't put herself above him, but goes with the flow, so to speak. |

Thank you ladies! You know.... it's pretty hard to figure out what's realistic for a "game-person". I do try to just write as if my girls were parts of me (well, they are in a sense) - and how I'd react to things. Kind of hard to know how I'd react to a flood though.... And that reminds me to say: I think had the house burned down, that would have been better really than what happens after people have a flood (like in the south and on the eastern seaboard). You have so much.... dreck with the waters - sewage, dead animals.... you'll NEVER feel your house is really clean again. A fire - well.... it cleanses.... |

Siara 29: It was a hard ride from where we were in Skyrim, over the fence of tall peaks and down into Cyrodiil. It took us a fortnight and another full day. By the time we could see the smokes and roofs of Bruma in the distance, I was dead tired and dragging. “Andur - it looks like at least another day to Bruma. Let’s camp one more night. I’m so tired....” He smiled in sympathy. “And so am I, Lady. If you were one of my brothers I would not admit that though!” I chuckled. At least both of us had some basic sense of humor. Had this been a trip with my oldest brother, I’d probably have screamed down the moons by now.... So we came upon a tiny rivulet of water trickling through mounds of soft moss beneath the trees. The mountains’ walls were hanging over us, protecting from a north wind and its bite. There was a large boulder, overhung with a downed tree. “Look. We can cut branches, and set up a small lean-to - it’s like to get cold tonight and more shelter than just bedrolls will be a good thing, think you?” “Aye, Lady. It may be late summer, and not yet fall - but that wind.... I’m glad to be out of it!” So was I. I’d never had any love for wind. I didn’t know why - but it seemed I always heard voices calling in a wind.... I never knew who they might be, and didn’t of a surety want to know - I just didn’t want to deal with wind at all. A fairly silly thing to wish for in Hammerfell, after all - what with haboobs and simooms and samiels and all.... I caught myself before falling into a reverie about my differences. This was NOT the time. But it was something I really did need to consider. Eventually. We stewed a bit of journey food - it was somewhat more palatable that way. I’d eked out the coffee - and we had enough left for tonight and a mug each in the morning. “Think you they’ll have coffee to sell in Bruma?” “They’d better! If not, Arnem will have some to share most like.” He fell into a brown study. I didn’t want to break it, so simply sipped the last of my mug and scrubbed it and my plate out with sand and water. He looked up, then followed suit with his own dishes, and I cleaned the small kettle we used for things like stewing journey-rations. I smiled. “I kept a bit of something back for our last road-breakfast: some dried fruit with fat and nuts. My folk call it fimmagan. It’s good enough though no one wants to live on it forever!” He laughed. “I was wondering about something for morning. That and coffee - it’s a feast!” We spread bedrolls as the sky darkened to indigo. I noticed there were no light-curtains - perhaps they happened only in Skyrim? We turned in, and I hoped against hope that Andur’s brother would have good tidings of their family. And that we could find the information I thought we needed.... I'm guessing this involves a mod that adds Bruma? It'll be interesting to see where this goes just on that alone. Particularly with everything surrounding the Daedric Princes and Andur's family. |

Nope, this is all RP. Since both are from Hammerfell it's not a stretch that Andurs (from a family which makes its livings on the horse trades) has family in other provinces. IS there a Bruma mod? I never even looked, though I've bookmarked the Summerset Isle one.... [At this point, Siara's giving me fits even thinking about dealing with magic and mages - like at the college - after what happened to Fenbaggan....] Edited by Serethil, Jul 24 2016, 10:51 AM.

Sere I've finally caught up again! What a wonderful story. I feel like Andur about Solitude! I think it's the first experience just inside the gate that makes all that stone seem cold instead of protecting. I have the answer to your question by the way "A very wily and crafty Khajiit trader has learned the value of the coffee bean (besides being fun to play with) and smuggles them in by nefarious means. After all, who would suspect a kitty!" *outside of story realm, I am wondering are you going to transition your characters from Skyrim into Oblivion for real in-game Bruma time? Sort of having player characters that are alive in Tamriel in MW, OB and Skyrim.* |

A kitty of course! Duh.... I'd thought about it. I might do a test play in Ob tomorrow to see. Especially now that LOOT works properly with Ob for the most part.... |

Very good Sere!! I like that she is seeking knowledge in Bruma, and though it's too bad we can't go there for real, it's wonderful for the story! :D |

Yeah - and I really need to "map out" Bruma from inside Oblivion, before I go any further. Obviously, I'm mentally replacing the actual Bruma stableman with Arnemdur Alf'agar - but beyond that, I need to make a "road map" for what happens next.... I really don't have much memory of Bruma. You might notice I dodged the whole Pale Pass and Serpent's Trail thing - I just don't remember enough about all that.... |

I always liked Bruma. That city, plus Cheydinhall were my favorites in Oblivion. Anvil was good too, for me. When I need specific details, for anything in TES, the UESP wiki is a handy tool. |

I remember there being a big one in the works for a while now. Dunno if it was ever finished, though. I'm actually thinking of running that Summerset Isle mod, but i probably have to play Genevieve over from the beginning given the many, many updates to the mods she used. |

Yeah, and that may be what I'll be doing mostly. I did recreate Siara in Oblivion just a bit ago, and moved her to Bruma. I want to at least wander around the streets, hunt up or make a map, figure out what shops are there etc. I know there's a temple and the mage guild, and the palace.... and that's about all I know by now! And yes - Bruma, Anvil, and Cheydinhal were my favorites as well!
I couldn't find anything about Bruma - there's three mods by Joopvandie which add towns and areas to Skyrim's borders, some in Morrowind, Hammerfell, and High Rock. And he's also part of the Beyond Skyrim project - which is nowhere near done IIRC. So I'm going to have to pieces-parts it from UESP and running the Ob Siara around the town.... |

Sere, I have a group of characters that hops between the Oblivion, Skyrim, and ESO games without any trouble. It is a lot of fun to have all of Tamriel opened up. (Well, most of it.) Wonderful updates, I am enjoying Andur’s company very much. Hopefully someone has the coffee pot going in Bruma! |

Very enjoyable descriptive narrative Sere....yes I Know how wind makes us nervous and cats run amok with tails high. Maybe they hear the voices on the wind too. Often in Skyrim....I listen to the wind....and sometimes a faint carried sound....dragon call...you can't hear it direct..like clear...but as an undertone. Minutes later...guess what? No...Siara won't see arourra now....too far south.....though you'd hardly think so looking at the thick ice through pale pass and the Serpents. I recall Bruma well,,even after nearly five years. Nordic style houses half buried in the ground. The Hammer and Axe, Mr World Weary the Fence, and at the end the statue to the savoiur of Bruma. Not my favourite rulers though the carvains...pompous asses. Spent most if my time as Vulnavia in the mages guild....shame about the fire! Ah well...reminiscing. Now....how the heck can you create Siara in Ob...she'd be back to level,one...that's no good, you need her at the level she is currently at with Andurs. Unless...its all 'in mind' but I assume you are actually playing it through as you write it? |

By adding a few levels with the console of course. I just made her the same level as I'm "playing" her in Skyrim (she's actually level 25, but I haven't caught up to what she's doing in game, and in any case, her gameplay has very little to do with the RP....) I figure she's about level 15 for the RP. So that's what I made her using the console. Really, I'm playing her as normal in Skyrim, but the RP I'm writing here is really extraneous to playing her. She was just an interesting personality to write about, and kept poking at me.... and when she got into my head with the flood in Hammerfell - well, I couldn't resist. |

Siara's Song 30: It was late afternoon by the time we reached the stables outside the Bruma wall; the sign proclaimed it “Simoom Stables”. There was no one around, though the paddock had several nice horses milling about. We dismounted and tied the horses to the rail out front. I glanced at Andur, then started for the house that sat to one side of the stall row and paddock. He followed, a bit reluctantly I thought. Well. He was likely worried about family.... I tapped on the door, then waited, trying to relax. Finally, I tapped again, a bit louder. It had to be five minutes before the door opened a tiny crack. A child’s eye peered out. “What you want? Too late to rent hosses t’night.” My eyebrows flew upward. Andur moved forward then, and said gruffly, “Is Arnemdur Alf’agar available?” The eye slid away from the crack for a moment. Then the child said, “Who’s askin’ fer ‘im?” Andur sighed. “I am his brother, Anduraga.” There was an audible gasp from the room beyond the door. “Andur!” The door opened fully, and a man as like to the caravan master as peas in a pod thrust an arm out and hauled him inside. I slithered through before he could shut me out. This was giving me the shivers.... The men were caught in a hard hug. The child had backed away with fear showing across her face. She wasn’t Redguard.... This had all the earmarks of a bad situation. Just what we didn’t need. But I smelled coffee.... so while the brothers hugged and then began to talk, I squatted near the girl, and said softly, “Could I have a mug of the coffee? And what’s your name, child?” “I.... I’m Denira. I’ll - there might be a mug, won’t be clean....” “Here, I’ve my own. I’d appreciate a mug of it, and thank you.” She sidled away, obviously terrified, but returned quickly enough with the coffee, which was drinkable - barely. At least it was hot.... Looking around, I realized the room was scrupulously clean - unlike the little girl. Even Andur’s brother was cleaner, after presumably a day seeing to horses, than the girl was. She was likely Nord - perhaps they didn’t bother to wash as much.... After all, it wasn’t much warmer in Bruma than it had been in Skyrim. I picked a chair near the fire, and waited while the brothers caught up. If it took the rest of the day, I’d likely fall asleep and into the fire.... and in fact, after I finished the coffee, I dozed off until Andur’s voice woke me. “Lady.... things are not good here. But at the least, Arnem has had contact with several of the family - though not our mother.” “I’m sorry. I was hoping....” “Yes. As was I. But from what the others have said, she is traveling - on her way here, with another brother, his wife and children. Things seem to be even further from well in Hammerfell from what they’ve told Arnem....” I couldn’t be surprised. I had wished to discover everything was fine - but I knew that wasn’t going to happen, and pretending it was.... well, that was a fool’s game. To misdirect a bit, I introduced myself to Arnem since Andur seemed to have forgotten, and asked about Denira. “Is she your daughter Arnem? She looks too much Nord though....” He fumbled for words. “Ah.... no.... Her mother - asked if I’d train her as stable girl when she went away. She’s good with the horses, but so small yet. She’ll need to grow some first!” He seemed kindly-disposed to the girl, so I wondered what could have caused her terror. But we had far more pressing issues. Denira dished up food for all of us. It was some sort of savory stew, with fresh bread and butter. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor, and it was certainly filling; the bread was hot and light. After we ate, Andur and Arnem went out to take care of the horses, our two included. I helped Denira clean up after the meal, and asked, expressing no urgency or judgement, “Did we frighten you, coming so late to the house as we did?” Well.... after a few moments when she stared into the dishwater, a flood of another kind happened. “Ma.... she’s - well, she kills fer money. Someone offered to take her into a - uh.... guild - like. An’ she.... just left me here an’ went. She never wanted me, an’ - an’.... Arnem di’n’t want me too, but he took me even if Ma niver sent the money she said. An’ - Arnem’s good n’ all, but I don’ wan’ ta take keer of hosses - they too big... n’ my toes git hurt....” A small sigh wracked her even smaller frame, and I dropped beside her to enfold her in a hug. She stiffened a bit, then crumpled and sobbed. "An'.... an'.... I thought y'd be here ta tell me Ma was dead...." Ah, poor child. As a reminder that my own problems were NOT the end of the world, Denira’s plight was certainly a wake-me-up. I held her until she’d cried herself out, and then I washed her up a bit (because likely I’d be sharing her bed.... considering the available furnishings....), and sent her to bed with a bit of bread and some honey I found drizzled over it. Now this was a fine facer. Really.... she couldn’t be left here. It was obvious Arnem hadn’t married, and he couldn’t be expected to rear a girl-child. Not to mention that as he probably didn’t feel very fatherly toward her, in a few years there might be other issues. I wasn’t maligning the man in my mind - but that was the way of the world with unprotected girl-children. I’d been loved, wanted, protected, taught - and now that all was lost, I had to take care of myself. Well, so. I’d be taking care of Denira too. Of course, I’d have to figure out how to put it to her so she wouldn’t panic, or insist to stay here where her mother could return for her.... Not likely that, not to put too fine a point on it.... Eh. The things that happen.... The gods should have been kinder to one small girl.... Edited by Serethil, Jul 27 2016, 08:10 PM.
