Rick, I may have misunderstood where exactly Adella's save was made. I thought the save was at the door to Helgen keep. Because I thought that was where her save was it would mean each competition she would never have to worry about the jump from the tower, getting Fus Ro Dah'd or blazed by Alduin, burned by the fire in the ground because, oops, I went too soon before Hadvarr out of impatience (been there done that). It was because of where I thought Adella's save was that I suggested a spot right before all the mayhem begins. Regarding the dialog scene at the block, I'm not the most patient person in games to repeat stuff like that, but I really don't think that one is particularly long and grueling, imo. :-/ P.S. I am fine with it inside the tower. Until your post previous to this one it wasn't clear to me where Adella's save was. Edited by Brambleberry, Jul 1 2016, 12:27 PM.

Yes a few people seem to have got it confused in the past when I have commented that my save is in the first doorway you enter. For some reason everyone gets a kind of mental fixation about "The Keep" which is where Ralof cuts your binds. No....Adella is saved right after the block in the very FIRST already open doorway you run to where Ulfric is waiting with Ralof. Its a good safe place to start and apart from not running through the meteor storm....you have to still do everything from there including the jump to the inn. There is no compelling reason to save earlier and in any case...I can't :) |

Hmmm... It seems to me that Adella went through the cart scene once, at some point, prior to becoming Adella, because you have to do that in order to get to the character creation point. :) It seems to me that the simplest rule is: "You must start (or restart) your character prior to jumping from the tower." That jump is the first point in the game that one can expect to take damage. On the subject of housing and other mods, I just make it a point to never use them in competition. I don't bother removing all of them, because it's a pain in the tutu to juggle my various characters, but I don't, for instance, use any left-handed rings in competition, and I don't use the modded hunter cottage near Riverwood. Regarding the spamming of skills: I think this is something that needs to be addressed on a case-by-case basis. It's impossible to play at Master or Legendary without grinding up crafting skills, so it's unreasonable to try to place universal limits on that. For certain "limited skill" competitions, it's appropriate to have such a rule. On the other hand, I think it's cheesy to go and stand in a flame trap while spam-casting Healing. Whether it should be against the rules, I don't know. I think the person who does that is really only cheating himself in the long run, anyway. Edited by glargg, Jul 1 2016, 03:13 PM.

I think that inside the first tower is a suitable location. Create a save right there, just as Ulfric is trying to look impressive. |

I really don't think it much matters. I've only ever had one character die before getting into the Keep with Hadvar/Ralof. And maybe one other character who managed to die in the keep. I frankly wouldn't care if we let people start from just inside the keep, after getting untied. Prior to that point, it's nothing but dumb luck if your character gets killed, since you're forced to a script. In fact, I think I'd be happy with "One hour penalty if you die in Helgen, no other restart penalty" and then let them restart anywhere up to (and including) the cave exit. I think this is true for most players, that is, few deaths post chopping block pre-keep. However, difficulty does make a huge difference here. The burning ember logs and such do a great deal more damage on Legendary and if you stand in them for more than a couple seconds x.x I like the first tower save idea. Sorta makes it like the starting line before the gun goes off to race up the tower only to get blown back down, hehe! |

That makes sense to me. It's an easy enough place to get to and you haven't had a chance to take any damage yet. After that though ... because yes I did die once falling out the window. (sticky Y button) Not something I'm very proud of but it did happen! :face: |

Oh, I know that death is possible in the "hands-tied run"! As I said, I had one character die there (most likely to just fire damage.) But that's why I suggested to just take a one hour time deduction, to a death anywhere in Helgen, and reload. It's not like anything important happens in that sequence. Nobody gets a "head start" by running Helgen especially well. ;) In any case, I'm happy with the idea of starting from the tower. :) |

Well, I have already made my position clear I think. I CAN'T save prior to the first open door in that tower with Ulfric. And I think saving after jumping to the inn is a no no since damage can be taken in the jump. So I have to concur with saving inside that first tower alongside Ulfic. If there are no objections then...can we just write it in....make it so and move on? Or do we need a longer debate....no one seems to be arguing against it! |

It's got to be "starting no later than the tower." Those of us running on PC generally use Live Another Life's vanilla start mode, where we create our characters before entering the game, and are then put in the cart. So we have to do the cart ride. |

Yeah well its not a problem if you want to do the cart ride with a new char! But even so I would suggest a save in the tower in case you feel like restarting with the same build upon death. |

It's not really a "want" so much as the way "Alternate Start" works... yes you can use racemenu to completely change your character ( or use it as a save point on death ) . I know I don't.. I start each Competition character from "new" on the loading screen.. also from NMM.. I clone a "DiD Competition" mod profile list.. give it the characters name ( unless I haven't one yet.. then it's DiD 2, until I do ). Unless I want to save the last file to add into Familiar Faces ( How I got a certain character into Adella's pic ) as a follower.. I save their pre-set and delete all files. |

I probably wouldn't bother, unless I'm going to do a practice run before the competition starts. And probably not even then. The way the alternate start works, our character creation occurs first, and then we're given the choice of what our start is to be. I generally make a save right after character creation. I have a bunch of "builds" who are sitting in that starting cell, waiting for me to choose what they're going to do in Skyrim. So I can always start right from there. The cart ride is really no big deal. Sometimes my character's reactions to the cart-ride dialog gives me a better sense of the character. :) |

:) wouldn't it be great if one could punch Ralof in the mouth and tell him to shut up! I've had several characters in the cart ride that really, really, really wanted to do that! |

When Adella had her cart ride back on 8th Jan....her birthday......she was too primitive of intellect to tell me what she thought about much in any detail. Her feedback feelings were minimal and required much effort on my part, to 'listen' to. It would be different now, I'm sure she would have a lot to say about being tied up with Ralof! Something I bet like "Ralof, do shut up darling you're being a dreadful bore" with a smile! Or if she was really irked by him, maybe.... "Ralof sweetie that is quite enough, you really need to stop now" with a hard tone and no smile! That is a lot more direct than the way I speak. I would say "Um' Ralof, Sorry mate but I got a real headache, could we do the chat later maybe" |
