ghastley hearthfires mods; vanity/feedback thread

Since I followed Kurdan here to find out how he got on building Greenspring Stronghold, and others had mentioned using others, I thought I'd start a thread for any feedback/requests on the Hearthfires mods.

Apart from a couple of others that extend/change the DLC content without requiring any extra building work by the player, it seems that I'm the only one building on the Hearthfires DLC.

So who's using Orc Hearthfires?
or Argonian Hearthfires
or Khajiit Hearthfires,
and has anyone tried Dremora Hearthfires?

I use Khajiit HF, tried the Dremora one, but just not my thing really, and if I ever manage to find a decent looking female orc I'll use Orc HF. Not into Argonians either....

I thoroughly enjoy the Khajiit one! Very well done, ghastley.

How's the "devout Bosmer" place coming?

I do have Argonian Hearthfires installed, though not really active on any of my profiles. I do fully intend to use that, along with Orc Hearthfires at some point. Likely the others too.

Also, as a note, although not directly related, there is one thing I would like to see added for Hearthfire(for the existing locations) - a cellar entrance/exit outside the house. Surely there are the crafting stations outside each location, but say you have your items stored in the cellar. That is two loadscreens to get down there. Perhaps a nitpick in a sense, but still a valid idea.

The corner they painted themselves into was surrounding the home with the non-tower options. That doesn't leave any point on the main hall exterior that could logically lead down to a cellar.

The option of including it with a tower wing would have three possible locations for the inner door, which would mean reserving space for all of them in the cellar. I can see why they didn't do that either.

The Bosmer one is still waiting for inspiration on hide and bone furniture. I'm also considering ceramics.

Orc Hearthfires has a half-complete extension with a quest to rescue the Orc mage who will become your "Wise Woman". I've placed a new dungeon, and populated and cluttered it. It needs a cleaned-up navmesh and a completed quest script, and then I can think about dialog and a voice actor.

Well.... I've never done orcs.... because.... well.... the teeth.... and the noses.... But if I can find a decent preset at nexus, I'll see if I can come up with one just for Orc Hearthfires!

I definitely have Orc Hearthfire for Kurdan and may put in Khajiit hearthfire for the carriage. While his story is not written that far yet, he has 3 or the 4 " be helpful to Orc's and idk how much of the needed items to build because of the weight...it's all stored at the "cliff house".

Serethil. ..unless you find something you like before I go on vacation I'll see if I can come up with a female Orc you might like, if you want me to.

That would be great! I've looked at most of the presets, and messed with a few of them.... but I just have a really hard time with the pug noses and the lower tusks....

Somehow I thought that was the issue. My thinking at first was that it could go perfectly on one side of the house, behind either east or west wing add-ons. But that doesn't work given the placement of the cellar, since it is just about as large as the main house, there is no room for that. Given that Kris(the character on which I first really touched Hearthfires content), isn't a Vampire, I thought that empty space in the Cellar was for some kind of door to the outside of the house - nope.

Actually tried building the towers on another character, and I found those even more awkward than being restricted to being able to build a armory, but then I can't build a kitchen on the opposite wing. Though I can imagine the nightmare it would be, had they allowed nearly every combination possible.

Otherwise...the problem I have with Orcs myself, is not their appearance. I actually like how the females look...though I do have a few mods making them look better, it's mostly just the same cosmetic stuff that applies to the other races. My issue is...starting one and sticking with it. It may even be that I'm almost stuck at this point with trying to start off with the Orc specific start in LAL, and then don't seem to get too much further than that before the interest is waning. Starting that way may be the issue though, so at some point I will have to try something else.

The only race I really have a hard time playing would be...technically Argonian males. Not because I won't play a male character, but rather because....well, though I can play one if I don't play the MQ, but if I would want to, or choose to at some point? They don't have a unique voice for shouts, which is odd, since the male/female Khajiit and female Argonians, do. First time I tried, I had an odd look on my face, as I went to "FUS" in the air again. I wasn't wrong. At that point, I began to avoid the MQ and even shouting with the character, and once I complete...or just came close to finishing the TG, I had no motivation to continue the character, all because of the shouts.

Max.... you should use Shezrie's kitchen/greenhouse mods - which give a lot more flexibility when building. They're "just there" once you install them - and then you can do what you want to do with towers etc.

Yeah, I'll take a look. Though it isn't really an issue for Kris, since I think I'm pretty content with the options there. I had to choose the Bedroom for the West wing, given that it includes the child beds, and I needed at least one for Lucia. The armory I am okay with, since I mostly have it looking like a out of order timeline of what Kris has been wearing armor wise...with a space saved for Aranea's armor. Lastly, I chose the Trophy room and the only problem I have with that is...I wish there were more quest related options, maybe at least for the MQ. Sure the Dragon Skull is nice, but there being a definite list of options is, not ideal. Most of them are just loadscreen meshes, which aren't bad, but not really what I'd think of for a Trophy room. Not that big of an issue though.

I'll try not to use a "pug Nose" and I will use the smallest "tusk's" unless I can find a mod has better teeth for Orc's. I have an idea for the tusks actually, but I want to see how it looks, because it would require downloading a mod that you might not want, unless you really like the girls looks.

But it'll be at least Sunday before I can even start anything, Michael has his 2nd surgery tomorrow.. just cutting a bit more tissue and changing out the Vacumn's pad and I have to get a new tire on the truck, I'm on the spare right now, it blew out the other day. and work of course...

Oh, no hurry Areial - and I never mind downloading a mod I'll use only once or twice. I don't have to worry about space, and NMM works so well it's never an issue....

Me, me, me, and me! I don’t have an active game with Dremora Hearthfires anymore due to laptop disasters, but the other three are in Jerric’s world housing an orc tribe, Dar-Ma and her Saxhleel friends, and some Khajiiti caravaneers. Jerric has been known to take their wagon joy-riding. So far they have forgiven him.

Sere, the first time I built the orc stronghold was with an Altmer barbarian. He was assisted by his Orsimer wife’s ghost (a mod I made for him). Thanks to the way ghastley made the mod, strongholds can be for everyone! :D

I did most of the testing of the Orc Hearthfires mod with a number of Bretons named De Fault. There were Fanny De Fault, Faye De Fault, Fiona De Fault, Floozie De Fault, and several others. They were my generic test characters for any mod, and some of them built the other places, too.

The Argonian den is easy enough to enter underwater without using any waterbreathing help, so that's been used by a Dunmer assassin who wanted somewhere secret.

I've had an Orc build the wagon, too, and park it outside the Stronghold. You can just about drive it there if you pick the route carefully.

However, the Bosmer one is getting tested with Bosmers, because not using wood seems dumb to anyone else.

I'm really hoping TES VI is in Valenwood. Can you imagine creating a mod with a living house that moves like their great cities that are one enormous tree that walks around the land! Now there's a nightmare for ya! :teehee:

My take on "walking trees" has always been one of vegetative reproduction (like strawberry "runners"). There are a number of RL trees where the branches bend down and take root at the tips, taking a stride away from the main root. If such trees were large enough, those branches would be bridges to the next part of town.

The city would move slowly, over centuries, as the original tree rots away (real urban decay!), and the newer ones take over.

ghastley, Orc HF is excellent! Lots of fun, I hadn't done the Largashbur quest line in a long time (WAY long time), and then running around to the other strongholds to do 5 favors was cool too (and I think that would be a bit of a hassle for a non-orc....)

Anyway, I'm very happy with both Orc and Khajiit HF!

I have no rights to comment on this other than to say....if I COULD do mods I know the Contessa would be nagging me for a proper torture chamber in the cellar :X

She does like her playtime....sick puppy girl

Same would go for any DB assassin type who wanted a home away from a sanctuary....

Wow... you got them done already? It's great to hear how excellent it is.
