Glargg....well lets see! :)
But in anycase We fight according to our actual capability level......you'd have to be mad to purposely enter high level foe domains until your skills had reached the appropriate level.

Which in a sense is what all the craft grinding on Legendary is all about. If we had poor bow and one handed for instance I Simply wouldn't put Adella up against an Elder dragon, no matter what her theoretical 'level' was....its pointless guaranteed death!

But aside from levelling issues....what is the objective for the next round, or is it not yet decided?
Yes, the actual objective would determine whether any of this step-leveling of difficulty mattered at all.

For example, if the objective were merely to do the Main Quest, under those step-up rules one could easily complete the questline at Apprentice, since it's no problem to run through that quest line before level 20 at low difficulty.

On the other hand, if one were doing my proposed CoW challenge (CoW plus all of the Master quests and college radiant quests), then one would need to raise all of the Mage skills to high level, in order to qualify for the master quests. One would rise quite a few levels, in mastering those skills; I suspect that Tolfdir's quest to get Heartscales would prove quite interesting. :)

Ah Glargg but it does... each shift up is going to change the "damage given verses taken" , I see the problem's that can occur if one does not think ahead to the next difficulty step.
So I thought scoring something like this.

CoW MQ.............................................. 500 points
CoW side quest's ( one time quests)........250 points
CoW radiant quesrs ( repeatable).............100 points
Mastering a School.................................1000 points

You will have to keep track of which are one time and which are radiant
Uesp Wiki College of Winterhold

Glarrg does that sound about right in the scoring for what you had in mind?

The regular "general" rules...but if any one can think up particular rules????

Yes, I like those scores. The idea is definitely to put a premium on the Master quests. :)

And, as I suggested before, I don't think there should be any limits on which skills are used, other than the usual "no exploits." Somebody could play as a pure mage if they want, or go the armored warrior route.

Obviously, if we go with the "stepped difficulty" system, there would be no score adjustment for difficulty, for this round. Everybody would be competing on the same basis.

Edit: I do think that there should be a "once only" limit on Drevis Neloran's "Out of Balance" radiant quest, which just involves going around and clicking on three focus points. It's technically repeatable, but it has a bug that can give an overpowered buff to magicka regeneration.

I don't know if you saw my edit. We might want to limit some quests to "once only."

The bug in the quest I mentioned is fixed by the unofficial patch.

Then we'll get that one written in as once only.

Dammit, this sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I might rethink my decision to not participate in this round!

Yes, this one could be fun.

I need dates and hour limits. WoW patches tomorrow and I'm going to be mostly busy with the new stuff(pre expansion patch, has gear that's limited time only and usually things like titles and whatnot so I do those events if I'm around then).

Not setting the date...just suggesting... Sept 1st through Sept 25... That's 3 full week's , plus an extra weekend. I think an extra 10 hr's so 70 hr's instead of 60...

But if we want a full 4 week's instead, then start the 25th of August and run through September 25th... one month 80 hr's... That leaves a week between this round and the next and a week between the School round and what ever is decided upon in October.

I'd say that 4 weeks would almost have to be mandatory for this one. There's a lot of skill raising involved for it.

Ha! Glargg.....Drevis Neloran's repeatable bug quest......well
I wouldn't have even known about any of that to benefit from it.

So....got any more little gems like that tucked away?

Not normally being an experienced fire ball flinger......there's probably quite a few special things that will just pass me by. I should imagine that while I'm doggedly concentrating on raising destruction of a painfully long time....everyone else will be masters of illusion, conjouration and alteration.

Oh btw I think the faster magicka regen perk in the restoration shool is bugged ( meaning buggered)....I tried it once and tested it out....it made zero difference to the rate of magicka recovery (on console), probably fixed by usleep.

Edit....after wading through tons of usleep fixes....yes the magicka recovery issue is fixed on pc....however...what's odd is that the usleep description indicates that the bug makes the recovery perk set "wrong multipliers", but my finding is it makes no multiplier...or I Guess technically a multiplier of x1.

What is interesting reading usleep fixes is all the ones I routinely see and ignore. So I'm enthralled reading things like a dialogue fix and I'm saying to myself like "Oh yeah, I remember them saying that one wrong." Plus I learned a few new odd things that still apply to me on console.......like if you kill a "Hired thug" before they speak....their bodies will not clear away.

Some other finds do show advantages, but they are subtle or like our recovery perk, they won't make any difference unless you happen to used the thing thats fixed, and then you won't notice it because its functioning normally now.

I wonder if the patches will be included by Beth in SSE

Once can dream, but I doubt it. We'd have to hope that Arthmoor feels like fixing it for the SSE.

OK so what we have is a "Back to School" theme... College of Winterhold, Master-grade

All General DiD rules apply ( unless otherwise noted)

As our characters "learn" ..they go up in difficulty... so it would work like this:

LvL 1 every one is at Novice
soon as one hit's
LvL 10 kick it up to Apprentice
soon as one hit's
LvL 20 Kick it up to Adept
soon as one hit's
LvL 30 kick it up to Expert
Soon as one hit's
LvL 40 kick it up to Master
soon as one hit's
LvL 50 kick it up to Legendary

*** When I say as soon as...I do not mean right in the middle of combat!

points:

CoW MQ.............................................. 500 points <<~~per quest
CoW side quest's ( one time quests)........250 points
CoW radiant quesrs ( repeatable).............100 points
Mastering a School.................................1000 points

You will have to keep track of which are one time and which are radiant
*** You may only do once the quest " Out of Balance" as it is bugged.

Time frame:
start the 25th of August and run through September 25th... one month 80 hr's.
(( Grit's suggested 2 months...with some mini-games for those who finish earlier)

These are basic and suggested guidelines/ rules for this round... if we could all discuss what we think and add or change these slightly.

I love the stepped-up difficulty levels.

I think 80 hours is reasonable to shoot for the Master quests through natural gameplay, but maybe two months instead of one? If a lot of people are finished early we can always run some mini-games while we wait, like our Nekkid Nord challenges.

I like that there’s no penalty or reward for skill use other than the level-triggered difficulty increases. That leaves room for some very different strategies among players. It will be fun to see what people choose to do.

One thing, I’d increase the reward for finishing the CoW MQ.

So, at 500 per quest, we're talking about 4500 points for the whole CoW questline?

One thing that I see as an "issue" is the strong possibility of a tie. Since there's no difficulty multiplier, we're all making the same score for the same quests. The only difference would be the number of repeatable quests.

There are three "Membership required" quests that are not directly part of the CoW, but require you to be in the college. They are "Forbidden Legend" (the Gauldur Legend thing), "Forgotten Names" (the dremora pirate summoning in the Midden), and "No Stone Unturned" (the 24 gems.) I think those quests should be in play, too. Maybe with some kind of point value for each "Unusual Gem" found.

How about 1 point for every skill point under the Mage Stone? Getting all 6 skills to 100 would be quite a feat.
