First I must congratulate everyone on our first GVG win, I think we all did very well even though we are still somewhat inexperienced in GVG (I know I am at least). While in class today (yes I know I should have been paying more attention to the lecture, but he goes directly off his handouts) I watched some GVG matches and found a couple of builds that really impressed me. I was watching a match between a rank 23 vs. a rank 13 team. I primarily watched the rank 13 because even though they did not hold flag control they only had one death in 15 minutes; it was a good match too bad I didn’t see who won because class was over 20 minutes into the match. But here are the builds that I noticed along with the skills they used.

Ele/Monk
They used heal party, armor of mist, convert hexes, blurred vision, deep freeze, ice spikes, ether prodigy. This class did general healing as well as add slow and melee attack misses degens. They remained at the back offering just support magic for the group.

Necro/Monk
This class used shadow of fear, rigor mortis, defile flesh, malign intervention, soul barbs, desecrate enchantments, martyr. This was I thought an odd class that worked well, they did degens however, they used martyr a lot to take conditions away from everyone else. They stayed near the middle and in the back but they did a good job of degening the opposition and taking on the conditions. There was another necro/monk that was blood and curses, they used offering of blood for their elite.

Monk/Mes
This was the typical divine boon monk but used inspired hex along with the elite energy drain to get back energy.

War/Rang
They were an axe warrior that used eviscerate, axe rake, executioner’s strike, sprint, heal sig, and tigers fury. There was a hammer warrior too (ele secondary) that used sprint, bulls strike, crushing blow, heal sig, irresistible blow, frenzy and back breaker for their elite.

Mes/Ele
They used power drain, energy burn, shatter enchantment, shatter hex, diversion, drain enchantment and glyph of renewal for their elite.

These are just possible builds we can do if you guys see any other good builds feel free to add on to this thread.

Just got home from work, and read this thread. Now that we've gotten our feet wet, trying out GvG, I sure have a lot of respect for those top rated guilds out there!

Last night was a lot of fun, but it made me remember what it was like when Sophie was brand new- lots of running around in circles! Having 8 real people running at me apparently made me forget everything I've learned about fighting with a group- lol.

I guess if we apply what we usually do in Tombs, etc, we can get the hang of this too.

I had some free time today so I watched a highly ranked guild lose horribly. A rank 3 was desimated by a 105, they lost in 8 mins. The 105 ranked guild used no tanks just an army of rangers, a necro and 3 monks to wipe out a really balanced team. It seems that more guilds are using the rangers for their quick distracting ablilities and having the monks use protects and do a bit of healing. Also what I think was key was the 105 was better coordinated than the other guild, they focused on the other team's monks and mesmers first then the rest was easy pickings. By us practicing I think we have a good chance of doing well because we just need to work on our coordination, because I know we all have the skills to do well.

I wonder if I took my ranger with my cat how that would work out. Ms Kitty makes a pretty good tank, and has an interrupt attack. I could take some bow attacks as well. Or leave Kitty home *sniff* and use some bleeding/poison attacks along with the interrupts.

It worked out well when we were able to use the catapult that one time! We just need some practice so we (I, at least) will get to the right places at the right time. TS definitely helped too, even though I was "just" listening. :P

I could take Grub with us as my mesmer, with my beast mastery pumped up he does more damage than I do.

The rangers I have noticed that best utilized pets are the bunny thumpers, because both are doing good dmg to the same target (most are using elder wolves I want a ranger now :(). If you are going to be a disrupting ranger most take punishing shot as their elite, they are also using savage shot, dual shot, reap the wind, I think some are also using QZ. I saw a r/w that was a distupter using watch yourself and thought that was a nice add to provide more armor for the people around you. Again these are just general builds that I have seen, I think we just need to find what works best for us, and it never hurts to experiment with new builds too :P

Well as for energy I never have a real problem but might if I am the only monk in the group :P. The way I look at it if I am having an energy crisis is someone has to die because I can't save them all(don't worry Sophie you are safe ). And before you all say I care too much about myself but I always save others before I worried about myself plus I only carry healing breeze and orison that can heal me.
Use this site and you can find a majority of the builds people use
This Group build looks very similar

I've been watching some Guild battles too, and it seems a lot of the teams Monks go in as prot instead of healing. I don't have much experience with prot skills, but I think I'm fairly good at the healing. Just need to actually get into a GvG to see how it all pans out.

Thinking of maybe chaning my secondary to Mesmer instead of Ranger. That energy drain skill seems mighty handy....
