The Blizzard Castle stands high above the other buildings in Evryll. This is the headquarters of the Blizzard Seers, and where most of their training takes place.

Renea strode down the corridor, her footfalls echoing in the darkness. She knew that it was after curfew, but her disregard for the rules allowed her to overcome any pangs of conscience. As she wandered aimlessly through the corridors, her thoughts turned to the outside world. She longed to discover it for herself. The reach, to her, would be an open book, and after that? Mount Findar, perhaps? Or somewhere in eastern Arken. Maybe even another province. But before any of that could happen, there was the blizzard test. It was said to be a gruelling test of magical skill, and although her natural aptitude was indeed great, she would need to hone her magic in the week before the test. Once she was a full seer, Arken was open to her. Blizzard seers were respected everywhere, meaning she would have no want of a warm bed, especially if she payed for it with magical favours. Her current lack of gold was a minor setback, the major difficulty would be in escaping the blizzard castle. They would want someone as talented as her to stay on, to become at least a high seer, maybe even a grand or court seer. For a moment, she considered the possibility. She would be able to accompany the Archseer on all his travels. But no, it would be too long before she could get out of this castle. Her adventurous soul could not have endured such arduous training. No. After the blizzard test, it would not take her long to leave.
The heavy footsteps of a prefect jolted her from her reverie. Ducking into an alcove, she tried to conceal herself as best as possible.

Sighing with relief, Renea slipped out of her hiding place, and quickly made her way back to the dormitory.

The next morning dawned crisp and cold. Renea slipped out of her bed, dressed, and made her way down to the breakfasting hall, where she tried her best to eat her porridge far from the other apprentices. This was to no avail, however, as two of the burlier apprentices sat themselves down next to her, one on either side, to prevent her escape. The larger of the two spoke.
"How are you this morning, my little snowflake?" for it was Menyn, possibly the person that Renea liked least. He had convinced himself that he could make Renea love him, although his methods were somewhat crude and blunt. Renea's beauty had attracted more than one suitor. None to her liking, but all more agreeable than Menyn. She slipped under the table, crawling out the other side and fleeing to the training hall, where she began practising. Concentrating, she gathered her magic, aiming it at one of the targets that lined the training hall.
Action: Attempt to cast ice shard at a training target.

To complete her mastery of the basic spells, Renea once more summoned her concentration in an attempt to cast an ice shield around herself.

Pleased with her progress, Renea decided that now was a time to break. Feeling slightly drained, she left the hall, making her way back to the dormitory. There she found her staff, which she had forgotten previously. It was a simple thing, an ash staff with a knot at one end, but Renea had managed to enchant it to grant herself some protection, though it was only a little. Picking it up, she returned to her training.

The rest of the day passed mostly uneventfully, with more training, and a little run-in with Menyn at dinner. By the time the day was done, the expenditure of magic had taken its toll on Renea, and she retired to bed, exhausted. When she awoke the next morning, it was snowing heavily outside, which, needless to say, was not a surprise around Evryll, especially near the blizzard castle.
After breakfasting, and managing to avoid Menyn, she returned to her training. It was going to be a tiring week...
