Dear PTAE friends, We sent out our Fall Schedule for classes about a week ago and now we've had numerous requests for private acting, voice, piano, guitar and/or other instrumental lessons. So, below is a list of all our private teachers and some possible available times as well as a way to contact them. Please contact the teacher you are interested in asap as private lessons fill up fast, especially private acting as there is only 1 teacher available at the moment. A graduate of Texas A&M University, Shawna is an award winning actress and director active in the metro area for the last 12 years, Shawna has received best play awards for her direction of "Miracle Worker" and "Coming Back to Jersey" at Jewel Box Theatre, as well as best play for co-direction of "Seusical" here at Poteet. Other recent directorial credits include "Fiddler On the Roof," "Guys and Dolls," and "Secret Garden" at Poteet Theatre, and "Forbidden Broadway" at Jewel Box Theatre. Recent Stage credits include Mrs. Mullin in "Carousel," and Edith Frank in "Diary of Anne Frank" for which she received 2010 Best Supporting Actress.
In addition to group acting lessons for 8-12 year olds, Shawna teaches private lessons for ages 5 to adult. From Stanislavski to Meisner, Shawna combines a wide variety of techniques to help you fine tune your acting skills. Learn a new dialect, find the perfect monologue(s), prepare for college or other important auditions. Improve your cold reading technique, or work on voice control, movement or character development. Build your confidence and self awareness through tailor made one-on-one instruction.

VOICE LESSONS JAY H. PROCK - STUDIO FULL Jay is the Executive Director of the Poteet Theatre and Arts @ St. Luke's and is the director of the Jay H. Prock Voice Studio. Jay has been teaching Voice for seven years at the Poteet Theatre. Jay graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with his BBA in music business with a minor in music. For two years, Jay studied under Kim Woods Sandusky who also taught Beyonce Knowles, Destiny's Child, and the 80's hair band Cinderella just to name a few. Prior to moving to OKC, Jay lived and worked in New York City and Nashville, TN working for such artists as The Dixie Chicks and Tim McGraw as well as companies such as Warner Brothers Records and The GRAMMY Awards. Jay's recent theatre directorial credits include Ain't Misbehavin', High School Musical, Children of Eden, Seussical, and Bye Bye Birdie. He has been seen in numerous productions at the Poteet Theatre, Jewel Box Theatre, and Sooner Theatre. In the summer of 2008, Jay received the best music direction award at the National AACTfest for John & Jen. Jay is an associate member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

Kris Grimes has been teaching Voice for four years both privately and through The Jay Prock Voice Studio at Poteet Theatre and at the Lyric Theatre Thelma Gaylord Academy. Kris graduated with her Masters in Musical Theatre from Oklahoma City University studying under Florence Birdwell. Prior to that Kris lived and worked in New York City performing Off Broadway and working in management on Broadway. Lately Kris was seen as The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz at Upstage Theatre and Jessie Mae in A Trip to Bountiful at The Pollard Theatre. Kris' teaching philosophy is "Technique,Togetherness, and Trust. "

Kelsey Guard is passionate about art and musicianship and loves to share that passion with others. She began her training at the age of 12 studying privately in her hometown of Davenport, IA. She continued her training in vocal performance at the North Carolina School of the Arts in their residential high school program and then through her first year of college. She is currently finishing her vocal performance degree at Oklahoma City University. Kelsey has worked with high school students touring in the performing arts ensemble, Celebration Iowa and currently works with junior high students in the Studio 222 after-school arts program. She has been in many musicals, straight plays and ballets including Fiddler on the Roof at Poteet Theatre.
Foundations of singing is the first step on the journey of private voice training. Learning the basic elements of voice including breathing, posture, and tension release, lessons will focus of bringing out the potential of voices new to solo singing and help singers to gain confidence and musicianship. In addition to breathing and vocal exercises, the singers will also learn four pieces in different styles in order to develop research and performance skills.
VOICE LESSONS Kevin Smith - STUDIO FULL Kevin Smith has worked as music director, accompanist, vocal coach and conductor in the OKC metro area for many years. He is music director for the Thelma Gaylord Academy and frequently music directs at the Sooner Theatre and the Poteet Theatre. As music director of Cimarron Circuit Opera Company in Norman, he has proudly been a part of taking opera to children and adults throughout the state.

Eric Bradford has been teaching voice for the last ten years both privately and through Northern Oklahoma College. Eric graduated with her Masters in Vocal Performance at the University of Central Oklahoma studying under Dr. Kevin Eckard. Currently Eric has accepted the position of music teacher at Dove Science Academy. Lately Eric was seen as Timony the policeman in Poteet's production of Carousel and Principal Clark in Duncan Little Theatre's production of Footloose.

Born and raised in Central Minnesota, Kristin relocated to Oklahoma a year ago from New York City. She is a graduate of the musical theatre program at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, and worked as both a performer during the five years she lived there. She is currently pursuing further schooling at Oklahoma City University in Theatre Performance, with a focus on Children's Theatre, as well as Broadcast Journalism. She is founder and director of the St. James Children's Choir at St. James the Greater Church in Oklahoma City, where she is also the music teacher at St. James elementary school. She teaches piano and voice to beginning children, and has appeared onstage in multiple productions in Minnesota and New York City. Poteet's production of "Alice in Wonderland" last spring marked her Oklahoma City debut. Favorite past productions include: "The Music Man", "The Sound of Music", "My Fair Lady", "Noises Off", "Oliver", "Crazy For You", "Singin' in the Rain", and 3 productions of "A Christmas Carol". Guitar lessons are open to anyone interested in getting a foundation in guitar playing. We will focus on chord structures, strumming, and chord progressions, with an introduction to finger picking, reading music, and reading tablatures. Alex has been seen in numerous Poteet productions as well as others throughout the city. Currently, he is a sophomore at UCO studying Philosophy. You can see Alex in action with his guitar every Sunday morning at 9:40 in the Lifelight service at St. Luke's UMC.

Lisa Hoel has been teaching music for 30 years. Her teaching experience includes piano and flute, taking her students to the advanced and college levels, clarinet and organ to the intermediate/advanced level, and advanced beginner/early intermediate level on strings (violin), percussion, brass, voice, guitar, and Music Theory. She earned a Bachelor's of Music Education Degree with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy, Flute Performance, and Band & Orchestra conducting from the University of Central Oklahoma. Lisa has a teaching certificate through the Oklahoma State Board of Education, and the Oklahoma Music Teacher's Association where she is certified in piano, flute, clarinet, and organ.
Lisa is also affiliated with the National Flute Association, and Oklahoma flute Society. She has served as accompanist for several opportunities including St. Luke's United Methodist Church's "One Voice Choir," Guthrie First United Methodist Church's organist/choir accompanist and children's choir director for 19 years, and various music competitions, recitals, and college music juries for instrumentalists at the elementary through college level, and several live theatre shows at Poteet Theatre, Pollard Theatre, and several variety shows.
She currently teaches at St. Mary's Catholic School in Guthrie (Band, Orchestra, and Choir), at her independent Music Studios in Guthrie and St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, and conducts the Bells of St. Luke's (a Handbell Choir) also at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Music is the love of her life!

I will be teaching each of my students a variety of skills, beginning with Note Identification, Rhythm Training and Sight-Reading. This will be combined with study materials such as Workbooks and Graded Study Pieces in a variety of styles for learning to play the piano. In addition, piano technique (position of the hands, posture, finger position, etc.) and Scale Studies will be given to each student, appropriate to their age and progress.
Jim Gabe attended John Marshall High School, where he sang in the Mixed Chorus, Men's Glee Club, and a small group of select singers known as The Chorale. He competed in District and State Contests with a Vocal Solo and with the Mixed Chorus. After serving Honorably in the US Army, Jim went on to complete a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Oklahoma City University. Jim has played the piano with several churches in the Oklahoma City Area, and currently performs weekly with the Praise Team at the Philippine International Baptist Church in Moore, Oklahoma. Recently retired from the US Postal Service, Jim became involved with Community Theater and was seen in the Diary of Anne Frank and Alice in Wonderland at Poteet. He also performed in the award-winning play at the Jewel Box Theater, The Miracle Worker. Jim is excited about the opportunity to teach his first love, piano, with the Fine Arts Program at St. Luke's.
