The Game Rooms Big Scary List Of Rules Some sections and sub-sections throughout the board contain basic guidelines which should also be enforced alongside. Pay attention to pinned topics which layout such guidelines. Breaking rules result in punishments. There are several types of punishments: Warning- I will determine whether you knew what you were doing was wrong or whether a warning is necessary to explain it to you. If I do not give a warning, I will skip ahead to the next step in the penalty list. Muting- This is where you are not able to talk on the board. You may still view it. Temporary Ban - This is where you are not able to view the board for a certain period of time. Permanent Ban - You can never again view the board. The following rules list the most serious violations: No Hacking - This should go without saying, but you are not permitted to hack the board. Guessing someone else's password and succeeding counts as hacking. Members who hack will instantly be permanently banned without any warnings. No Discrimination - You may not insult members based on their religion, age, race, sex, gender, political beliefs, sexual orientation. This is worse than flaming, because it also hurts other members of the board who fall into the category you insult. TGR is a place where everyone is equal, and discrimination will NOT be tolerated! No Bullying - Do not pick on other members. The worst kind of bullying is where new members are picked on. This hurts the member as well as the board. No Flaming - Flaming harms the nice atmosphere of TGR. It also causes thread's to go off topic, and most importantly, it hurts the person being flamed. The victom may defend themselves against any accusations made to them, but may not make any additional accusations to the flamer (which also counts as flaming). Absolutely NO Child Porn - This includes real images, videos of child porn and written or artistic works. No ecchi/loli/lolicon allowed even in the Cartoon section. If you can't tell if a person is underage or not then don't post it, simple as that. No Ban Evasion - Any user who has been banned or suspended is not allowed to create a second account to bypass ban or suspension. Doing so will result in the current account being banned permanently and being IP banned. Age Restriction - No users under 13 allowed, period. Adult Content - Keep all adult content in the adult section If you break one of these rules, the following penalties will apply (first time, second time, third time...) with the exception of breaking the rule "No Hacking" which immediately results in a permanent ban: Warning - Depending on how serious a violation is, you may be issued a warning first Muting - Muting for 10 days Temporary ban - People who cause more problems after being muted for 10 days will be banned for a month, and for 2 months for the next offense. Permanent ban - At this point, it is obvious that will never learn your lesson, thus, a permanent ban is necessary to be rid of the problems you cause. The following rules are also important: Do Not Make Attacks Against Other Gamers - Challenging arguments and ideas is fine, but not attacking the people holding them. This includes attacks on an individual poster, or groups that any reasonable person would understand includes fellow TGRers. Be A Good Citizen of the Forum - Trolling and otherwise sabotaging the peace of the board damages the quality of discussion and is not acceptable. Being “right” is not an excuse to engage in behaviour that degrades the TGR experience. Don't Threadcrap - If you wish to correct what you see as an error or fallacy in the initial post of a thread, that's fine, but if you have a problem with the basic premise of a discussion such that you wish it weren't taking place at all, ignore it. Don't tell everyone in the thread they're wasting their time discussing the issue, because if they agreed with you, they wouldn't be discussing the issue. The Staff Moderates to the Spirit of the Rules and the Context at Hand - Conforming to the rules to the letter is not a magic talisman against moderation if your posts are bad for the forum No Advertising - You are not permitted to make money using TGR. You are not allowed to use the member list to obtain Instant Messaging screennames to harass people to purchase a product from you. No Illegal Activity - You are not allowed to break the law using TGR. This can get TGR into legal trouble. Posting links to roms is illegal, so this counts as a violation of this rule. No Triple Posting or Spamming - You may not post more than twice in a row in the same thread. Posting lots of times in a row reduces the quality of the board, is a waste of the board's memory, and provides the culprit with ill earned post count points. Triple posts will be merged into regular posts. Spamming is also not allowed, and is defined as a post that has no meaning. No Posting Personal Info - You may not post your last name, or your street address on TGR. This is because this information then becomes accessible to anyone. No Japanese Cartoons Outside the Cartoon Board Section - This is not an Japanese Cartoons board but we understand some of our users like and want to talk about it, so out of the kindness of our cold hearts we've blessed the board with a section where you may talk about your waifus and be the best weeaboos/otakus you can be No Threatening to Leave the Board - You may not make posts threatening to leave the board. We don't care if you want to leave, it's not our loss. Text Speak - No txt spk, we strive to make our forum as legible as possible, we're not teenage clique girls, Jersey Shore or the ghetto, if you're on your phone or don't have a lot of time to make a post without using txt spk then don't. No PCMasterRacism/ConsoleMasterRacism - We love and respect ALL gaming platforms from PC and console to mobile, handheld and custom gaming devices. No one device plays EVERY game out there and as gamers we shouldn't limit ourselves. Private Messages - Posting restrictions also extend over to private messaging. Any violations reported to the staff in private messages can be punishable. Warning - Depending on how serious a violation is, you may be issued a warning first Muting - Muting for 3 days Muting - Muting for 10 days. Temporary ban - People who cause more problems after being muted for 10 days will be banned for a month, and for 2 months for the next offense. Permanent ban - At this point, it is obvious that will never learn your lesson, thus, a permanent ban is necessary to be rid of the problems you cause. The following are a set of amendments to clarify the rules for those people who wish to nitpick: Amendment 1 - There are no excuses for breaking the rules. It doesn't matter if you were angry at the time and weren't thinking straight. It doesn't matter if you were only kidding around. If you break a rule, it does the same damage, regardless of your reasons for breaking it, and you will be punished all the same. Amendment 2 - Staff abuse will not be tolerated. As a staff member, your job is to help the people, not harm them. You may only use your powers for the purposes that they have been given to you for. There is no limit on how much you may be punished for this severe offense as this must be stopped at all costs to protect the people. This means that if you abuse your powers, there is a good chance you will be permanently banned. Amendment 3 - Harassing the administration about punishments is not allowed. The admins are only trying to do their job, and many times they have to make difficult decisions. You also may not make threats against administrators (or other members for that matter...). Punishments for harassment range from a 5 day mute for minor harassments to a permanent ban if serious threats are involved. Amendment 4 - If you break more than one rule, the punishments will stack up to a maximum of 2 months, or a permanent ban if necessary. If a sentencing length is 10 days or less, it is a mute, otherwise, it can either be a temporary or permanent ban. Guidelines Q: How do we define “Trolling and otherwise sabotaging the peace of the board?” A: We don’t. It’s subjective and contextual - but many thousands of gamers manage to fit into that context without setting off flame wars, and you can too. Q: We shouldn’t attack groups, can you elaborate? A: We prohibit personal attacks because they cause flamewars and make the forums terrible. People will reasonably feel attacked if someone attacks a group they’re a part of, so we treat that as a personal attack for the same reason. We don’t define lists of groups that are protected or not because the groups aren’t the issue, preventing flamewars between gamers on the forums is. It’s your responsibility to make posts that reasonable people won’t take as personal attacks. This is pretty easy to do, whether dealing with an individual or a group - you attack arguments, behaviours and ideas, not people. This also implies that anyone feeling attacked should carefully consider whether they are personally under fire, or if it’s a legitimate challenge to their ideas or arguments. Q: What about links/videos/images without comments? A: Threads created with little more than a link and no substantive text will be closed. This happens regardless of the contents of the link. We want to foster discussion, not serve as a host for link aggregation. What makes a comment 'substantive? If you start a conversation about the topic, using the link as "recommended but not required reading" for the thread, you likely won't go wrong. This includes a posts. Forum Mission Statement This website is intended to be a place for gamers of all types to meet and discuss their favorite games and the industry. From speed runs to let's plays, guides and walkthroughs to achievement/trophy hunting and platform debate. It's intended to be an intelligent, respectful place for all people. Discussions and debates are welcome while flame wars, bigotry, insults and superiority contests are not. |
