A lot of us have been caught up in all the new hot games being released, graphics, new gameplay elements, online multiplayer etc but I think most of us have forgotten how we got to this point. All the games that helped shape the games we play today and the industry as a whole. I have been reading Jacked, watching some documentaries on how some video game series's came to be and even looking at the design docutments that were released and looking up more resouces for the first two GTA games I've found and already downloaded a few old classic games from Best Old Games for free download | BestOldGames.net Here are three more for more old games Old-Games.com: 8000+ Games to download My Abandonware - download games from the 80s and 90s for free Classic Gaming Network - Abandonware Lives You can buy older games from GOG.com, occasionally Steam if you feel bad about it but not all old games are on there, GTA for example. Yeah the legality is a grey area and it can be argued far and wide but my goal here is to maybe inspire others to pick up an old game and take an interest in maybe some history as to how the industry and these games came about. I myself will be starting to play some older classic games that I missed out on like GTA, Lemmings, Alone in the Dark, Commander Keen, Castlevania, Paperboy, TES Area, System Shock, Doom, Metal Slug, Double Dragon, MegaMan, Metroid etc I'd love some more suggestions for older games to play and maybe hear what if any, older games you're playing or would like to play |

I have Doom 1 and 2 on my 360. I want to start them sometime. I always wanted to learn why they were so popular. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer. An amazing game. Shark Shark for the Intellevision. I played it on Game Room on my Xbox 360. Really fun old game. Feeding Frenzy seemed to be inspired from it. Stay the hell away from Phantasy Star II. That game is bloody awful! |

http://www.amazon.com/Masters-Doom-Created-Transformed-Culture/dp/0812972155 That should be a good read for you if you want to know more about Doom and why it was so popular at the time, from what I can recall when Doom first came out, it was installed on more PC's than Windows was. |

I'll get that book. When I do, we should make a thread discussing it. Kind of like a video game book club or somethin. It would be interesting. If you're interested, I could put off my Doom PT's until I get it. That's pretty insane to hear. It kinda reminds me of Rogue. I'll also admit, after I did some online boosting in Doom, I realized just how much Serious Sam was inspired by it and it just made me that much more curious. Edited by CROW, Sep 15 2015, 03:48 AM.

That would be pretty cool, I'd be up for that. They have an audiobook version too. Here is the first chapter if you want |

I was going to listen to the audio book and then I saw who it was narrated by. I'd rather have a physical copy anyway. I'll try to get it soon because this idea really interests me now. |

This is the first I've ever heard of him doing books. Though, I've also listened to just two audio books. One was of a fantasy book and the other was a fan autobiography of Harry Potter. I wasn't expecting much but it was free. (Audible trial and I didn't know what else to get.) |
