[size=7]Welcome to The Game of Thrones online strategy game! You will start by creating an empire, by choosing from one of several unique factions.[/size] The seven playable factions in The Game of Thrones are: Martel Stark Lannister Tyrell Baratheon Tully Arynn Each faction includes its own set of units, some of which are very similar to other faction's, and some of which are completely different. Your faction will determine your starting area, but NOT your allies. Next you will buy units. Each unit corresponds with a faction-you can't buy a Lannister Man-at-Arms battalion if you play as the Starks. Each faction has a number of units between 5 and 7. After spending your gold on units, you can complete your empire registration. It will be approved by a Moderator, and then you're ready to begin playing! Golden Dragons: Form of currency in The Game of Thrones Attacking and Defending Attacking and defending are both the main part of The Game of Thrones. You'll attack neutral NPCs (Non-playable characters; they only defend), as well as other players. It is important to note that you may only attack a city connected to your own (refer to the map in the quick links at the top) Attacking Guidelines: When attacking, you must declare the city you wish to attack, post your attacking army, the movement cost of that army, and whether you wish to besiege the city, or just attack it. 1) Declare the city you wish to attack: This is simple and easy. If your city borders the city you wish to attack, then you may attack it. 2) Post you attacking army: Obviously, you post the battalions you wish to attack with; you cannot attack with battalions you do not post. 3) Post the movement cost: Each battalion has a set movement cost. Add the total movement cost for each battalion, and you come up with your total movement cost. 4) Attack or Besiege: Each has its advantages. Attacking When you attack another player, they have 3 days to post their defenses or you get the city automatically. The cost of battalions stays the same as if they weren't under attack, though. You also have the option to withdraw your force. You lose the movement cost you paid if you withdraw. You cannot withdraw if the defender has already posted their defenses. Besieging You can only besiege another player; you must attack NPCs. Besieging works like this: if you declare that you are going to besiege the city, then all battalions the defending player buys after you besiege them cost double. While this may seem a win-win situation, the defender has two advantages: first you cannot withdraw your attack (even if the defender hasn't posted their defenses yet), and secondly they have 6 days to post their defenses. Defending Guidelines: Defending is a bit easier (in a way) than attacking. You do not have to post a topic, since the attacker already has. You will only be attacked by other players. When defending, you must post your defenses within 3 days (if the enemy is attacking) or 6 days (if they are besieging). If the enemy is besieging, the cost for you to buy battalions is double. You may still receive tributes and trade with other players, though. 1) Post your defenses: Just like with attacking, you must post the battalions you wish to defend with. You can only use the battalions that you post in the battle. 2) Calculate the movement cost of all your battalions added together-yes, there is a movement cost when defending. This is because it still takes money to supply and feed your troops when defending. 3) Once your defenses are posted, the attacker posts first when role-playing out the battle. The Battle Once the defender posts their defenses, the attacker posts. Remember, each faction area has a broadly set terrain that you'll use to expand on. The TERRIAN/ATMOSPHERE (link) is described at that link; it's meant to be extremely broad so that people can expand on it. Remember, using the terrain to your advantage will always earn you brownie points. Battles are ROLEPLAYED out, meaning that the victor will not always be determined by the number of units; having more units just gives you an advantage. So, why do units have health? Easy; health is a guideline; if somebody has their crossbowmen taking ballista fire something is wrong, and they'll usually lose the battle. So, how are battles truly won? The victor is determined not by who actually wins, but by a) the skill of the RPer and actual fairness; you're NOT going to win with five men-at-arms if your opponent has two hundred no matter how good your skill.Also, here's something that might be confused frequently; ONLY your capital city has walls; all other cities DO NOT have walls. In later seasons there will be purchasable walls for your cities. NPC battles will last a total of 5 posts each, while Player vs. Player battles will last 10 posts each. However, whenever a player's capital is involved, the battle will last 15 posts each. Posting your attack/defenses does not count as a battle post. So who decides the victor? Mods/Admins will vote on the victor and decide accordingly. Retreating Retreating is when you pull out your remaining units. You can retreat only when attacking (not besieging). When you retreat, you lose 25% of your remaining soldiers, as well as losses you received beforehand (these losses will be determined by admins/mods). When retreating, be sure to clearly state that you're retreating. Cities and Your Capital The city at which you start becomes your capital. Your capital is the heart of your empire-if an enemy attacks your capital, and you fail to defend it, then your empire crumbles to dust, and you are out of the game until the next season. So what happens when you attack an enemy’s capital and you get it? Do you get their lands? The answer is no, you don't get their lands. All of their cities turn NPC, except the capital you have just captured. Also, you receive +200 golden dragons instead +100 golden dragons from an enemy's captured capital. You start out with 5,000 Golden Dragons, but what happens when you run out? How do you get more? The answer is cities. For each city you conquer, you gain +100 Golden Dragons per week, except for your capital; you gain 200 Golden Dragons per week from you capital. Trading and Tributes Trading and tributes make up a good part of the game. To trade, you must make a topic saying 'Trading with ___insert player name___' then, in the topic, list- 1) The battalions you wish to trade 2) The gold you wish to trade 3) The cities you wish to trade 4) The battalions you wish to receive 5) The gold you wish to receive 6) The cities you wish to receive 7) Who you're trading with After you post all of these, you must wait for the player you are trading with to accept. Once they do, the trade will be approved by a Mod and information will be recorded in the library. Tributes are just like trading, except that there doesn't have to be approval by the receiver. In the topic, list- 1) The battalions you wish to tribute 2) The gold you wish to tribute 3) The cities you wish to tribute After you have posted, a Mod will approve the tribute. The tribute doesn't have to be approved by the receiver. Purchasing Battalions Sure, you start out with 5,000 GD to spend on battalions, and use for movement cost when attacking cities...but what happens when those battalions die in battle, or you need more to reinforce your army? You go to the Purchase Battalions forum! It's simple and easy to do, and all you have to do is list- 1) The battalions you wish to buy 2) The total cost of the battalions you wish to buy Easy as that! Income You receive income based on the number of cities you have. You receive 200 GD per week from your capital, and 100 for each other city you have. Also, note that another player's captured capital grants you +200 GD a week instead of the regular 100 GD. Income is distributed ever Friday at approximately 8 PM (GMT -6h). Alliances An alliance is a group of two or more people who wish to work together in some certain way. Alliances can contain a maximum of 4 people. Benefits of being in an alliance: -Forum only viewable by you and your alliance -Secret trading/tributes-you can trade in your alliance forum -You may attack through an allied city bordering your own-for example, if you own Winterfell, and your ally owns Moat Cailin. With his approval, you may attack through Moat Cailin. If another friendly city bordered Moat Cailin, such as Graywater Watch, you could attack through there, too. -and last, but not least, you have allies to help you! As you can see, the game in itself is very simple, yet can become very, very complex. As more people come and begin to play, expansions to the game will be added-here's a small look at things I plan to do in the future A Clash of Kings Expansion -Add fortifications (walls that can be purchased and used when defending) -Add a variety of siege weapons (can be used when attacking and defending) -Add random events (undecided) -Add a new unit to each faction (add UNIQUE units to each faction to further set them apart -Add special abilities More things will most likely be included, but don’t expect the expansion for a long while (as you may have guessed, there will be at least two more expansions to the game, including A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows). |
