Jesse Walsh and his family have moved into Nancy Thompson's old house on Elm Street. No sooner are they moved in than Jesse begins to have horrific nightmares - ones that feature a burned man in a dirty red & green sweater, with knives on the fingers of his right hand. His neighbor & new sweetheart, Lisa, discovers the truth behind Fred Krueger and his horrible murder spree. Freddy vows to take over Jesse's body to continue his vile crimes against the Elm Street residents. Soon, people close to Jesse start dying violently.

I... honestly kinda like this one. It's creative, had a good character, had some good kills, Scary Freddy, neat concept, etc.

Could it be better? Yes. By a huge margin, but I actually think it's decent

Freddy may not be comedic but he's hardly scary imo, which is one of my biggest issues with it. Is it supposed to be funny? Or is it just trying to be scary and falling flat? With characters screaming about Freddy "coming inside" them, and Freddy spanking nude old men with towels to death... the tone just feels confused. Especially when its paired with Jesse walking around DRENCHED in sweat (I'm sorry but I can't not mention this), an uncomfortable dance scene, and that random bird scene... I don't know what exactly it wants to be. Sure the concept is interesting but at the same time I feel like it misses the point of what makes NOES so unique, where Freddy kills people in their dreams. As for characters I really only liked Grady. Lisa is disposable, Jesse is miserable, his family is irrelevant, and I don't even remember the other girl's name. Plus that ending... like, they didn't even try. Its so silly tbh.

/end rant. Back to ignoring this existence tbh.

I think he had his moments (possessing Jesse was genuinely creepy, then him gleefully massacring teens at a pool party)

The latter. No question that this has some hilarious incompetence

A lot of those seem almost directly tied with the whole gay themes stuff. Yeahh... the writer seemed more than a tad bit confused on how to best handle those elements and fit them in. And it definitely shows

True, they botched that a lot. But I at least respect them putting in some creativity vs. the standard "Here's a lazy shitty rehash" model (see: Remake). There's no doubt this is one of the worst ANOES movies, but I think even the worst Nightmares are halfway decent, especially compared to the worst ones of other franchises (sans the ANOES remake)

I did say one likeable character, but even that's an achievement compared to some slasher sequels (H5, anyone?)

True dat. Tho I think the original's ending is even worse. But the original has literally everything else going for it
