Well while we wait for people to get signed up, I figure I'll keep yelling into the internet void about RPing.

Consider this your first day of training, rookies.

The art of the promo is ever evolving. No one is ever going to cut their first promo and get inducted into the Hall of Fame. As your character grows and you find out more about them, your promos get stronger. We are effectively writing fanfic, but about only the main character. So your goal is, first, to find your main character. (Remember, we here at THE RiiNG love intergender wrestling, so by no means do you have to RP as a man. However, I'm going to use bases of my own CAWs for this.)

So let's take Shaun Andrews, for example. His character is that he's in love with himself and big and strong and hot. That's it, it's that simple. You don't HAVE to have an elaborate gimmick, though you're more than welcome to!

Your first step is finding your voice. Shaun's is loud and sometimes humorous because I am Shaun (and Torch) and they are me. One time Shaun was upset about being left out of a mid-card title match and called the bookers "a bunch of goddamn inept giraffes. And if there's one thing I hate, it's a cocky fucking giraffe." No seriously, I actually put that in a promo.

Promos can be a simple "I'm better than you, I'm going to beat you." But that's boring and, quite frankly, unimaginative. For big matches, I myself have written promos of 5 pages or more. You don't need a long promo, I just talk a lot. Make your words count. The more important the match, the more of yourself you want to give.

Let me give you a quick Shaun promo, for an example of what I'm looking for. Keep in mind this is.... short. This would be one of those things that you do just to get the battle going. Let's say he's fighting Torch just for the sake of having an opponent's name.

**Camera fades in over a giant swimming pool, the water gently swirling about. The sky is a clear blue and a line of trees paint the horizon. As the camera pans around, we see Shaun Andrews lounging on a pool chair, sunglasses shielding his eyes.**

Shaun: Big bad Marine Torch. Mister Cool. Mister Badass. Mister Loved-by-everyone.

**Shaun sits up and finally turns his head towards the camera**

Shaun: Mister fireman is going to be extinguished on Thursday. Listen pops, don't overstay your welcome. You've done all you can do in this industry, and it's time for you to shut your damn mouth and go comb your beard or something. What is it you executives do anyway? Don't you have an affair or something to be doing instead of wasting my time? Listen, I'll do you a favor and make sure you can at least chew semi-solid food okay? Now get the fuck off of my property.

**Shaun waves the camera away and lays back in his chair**

This allows a promo battle to start. Shaun called out his opponent, did some research on who the basic idea of Torch was, and went. Now when Torch responds, he'd respond with vigor because that's who he is. The promos get more detailed and heated. The better the battle, the more effort we put into the matches as writers. And, you don't need to, but I'm me and I usually color code my promos. Torch's action sequences get gray and his dialogue maroon, shaun usually blue and green. But you don't HAVE to do that. Just try to make it readable.

Your homework for day one is to think of your character and how they might promo against your favorite, or least favorite, superstar.

Class dismissed.
