There are some drugs that have more harmful effects, but there still are those that have very little (LSD, Marijuana, maybe more?). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe it is likely that those two will cause any more deaths than Alcohol/nicotine do on a daily basis. I think people are better off being addicted to something that takes them away from perceived reality for awhile, rather than addicted to nicotine and alcohol, which all too commonly lead to an early death.

I'm glad for now those drugs are banned. But Nicotine is the most addictive drug in the world and Alcohol kills more. More than 2/3 of all household disturbances are linked to alcohol. I got this stuff from my teacher, so correct him if he's wrong. But statistically, Alcohol is the worst 'drug' out there. And smoking isn't good either. But like I said, neither of those are going anywhere anytime soon.
