Further Information Introduction Hello, I'm Keanu (aka TBK_Amethyst), the leader (co-ordinator) of The Blade Keepers. It has recently come to my attention that some of our members' parents have expressed concerns about their child's involvement in an online gaming syndicate. This guide will cover all aspects of TBK and hopefully answer/resolve any questions/concerns you, as parents of TBK members, may have, in particular concerning health and safety. Please remember that TBK is a syndicate in which our main focus is entertainment and enjoyment. While many see online communities as having many potential risks, we try our absolute best to keep things safe, secure and relaxed. Syndicate Overview The Blade Keepers (Initialised TBK) is an online syndicate for the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) "RuneScape". For the RuneScape parents' guide, CLICK HERE. TBK's guide will detail our clan specifically, and not the actual game. TBK is one of hundreds of player-created syndicates known as "clans" for RuneScape. Our main focus is to amplify players' enjoyment of the game, by involving them in organised Player versus Player (PvP) events. Two of the main events which PvP clans like TBK host are raids of the RuneScape wilderness and wars with other clans. The clan is organised by myself and any staff members chosen - other players we feel are suited to manage general clan duties. Our events which the clan hosts are announced over our forums. We use IRC chat and TeamSpeak voice communication software, which members are required to have for PvP events. Member Rights As a member of TBK, your child is entitled to the following: - Right to refuse to attend a clan event Only our PvP events are mandatory for all members to attend. However, if they have real-life priorities, they may be exempt from attending. For more details, see the Events/Game Time section. - Right to refuse payment of any real-life currencies or services We will never force members to pay anything of real-world value. If they are asked to, they may refuse. - Right to resign from membership of the clan at any time. Members are asked to post a resignation topic if they wish to leave. Their membership status will then be revoked within a 72-hour period. Once a leaving topic is posted, they have no further obligations to TBK. Events/Game Time There are other clans which have hosted events which extend to a duration of up to 24 hours consecutively. However, this is something which will never occur in TBK. The following details our only two mandatory events: Raids and wars. Our "Raids" will vary in time duration - from 30 minutes up to our longest of four hours. However, we would never expect our members to play the game for extensive hours straight. Every 1 to 2 hours, we will stop the raid and give our members a 15-20 minute break before resuming activity. We avoid staying out for more than our four hour cap. Members are also free to leave the raid entirely at any point - however they must have been present for a reasonable time to be counted as having attended. At TBK's current size, wars are not expected to last more than 1 hour. Once a member "dies" in-game, they are officially out of the war, and are free to leave. After wars we may occasionally host a raid - however this is optional to attend. TBK hosts two Raids per week, and one to two wars a month. Our raids are at set times on weekends only. We will never host a mandatory event on a weekday, as we try and avoid the game having any negative effects on members' real life, such as education. We also try and keep Saturdays free, and organise wars for Sundays. Members will never be forced to stay awake past 12:00 midnight in their local timezone, and we avoid instances in which this may occur. Computer Software TBK requires all members to have only one piece of software installed (our Voice-Communication program) on their computers. We also use a text-based chat program to communicate outside the game. These two are detailed as follows. For further details on member privacy and security, see the Privacy & Security section. Internet Relay Chat, also known as IRC, is a network designed for group communication between several people. TBK uses a "channel" on the network SwiftIRC for our members to talk to each other outside the game. We encourage all members to "lounge" or "idle" on the IRC - though this does not neccesarily involve them being actively on their computer at all times. To download IRC-based software is optional and not a requirement - we have clients available which members can run from their browsers to connect to the network without the need to download any programs. TeamSpeak, also known as TS or TS3, is voice-communication (voice chat) software used by a range of syndicates to communicate almost effortlessly. It is a requirement for all members to have TS3 installed on their computers, as we use it for our mandatory PvP events. However, it is free to use and spyware-free, so will cause no damage or unwanted effects to your computer. Members will need some form of audio output such as speakers or headphones/earphones to listen. They are not required to speak themselves (so no microphone is needed) - only staff members will be making voice commands during event times. For more information on TeamSpeak, visit their WEBSITE. Privacy & Security As with all online syndicates, there comes a risk of revealing personal information. What pertains to TBK is as follows. Members are required to use their E-mail address when registering on this board. However, the email will not be seen by anyone except myself and other administrators (the highest-ranking staff). We do occasionally send out periodic emails to remind members of important events - however this is an optional service. Members are asked for their timezone and/or country of residence, solely for the purpose of determining what their local time for our events will be. We are a close community, so many members prefer to be called by their first names or nicknames, rather than their Runescape character's alias. This is optional, and members may choose not to reveal their own name. For trusted members of the clan, we have a forum thread for real-life pictures. This is completley optional - members will never be forced to share such extensive real-life information. We do not ask members for, and encourage them not to reveal their: - Surnames/Family names/Last names - Real-life addresses/residences - Other revealing real-life details (Eg. school/education, work, etc.) Community TBK is an all-inclusive community - we have members of all ages, races, genders, disabilities, sexual orientations, and so on - we do not discriminate, nor tolerate discrimination. We try and ensure that all our members treat each other with the same amount of respect they would treat others they know in real life. We have several rules in place to ensure everyone feels welcome. Disruptive behaviour which may cause any sort of harm to another person(s) is punishable by suspension from our syndicate. We do not permit the discussion or sharing of obscene or inappropriate material. And of course, we follow all game and real-world laws - illegal activity and/or its discussion is not permitted. Overall, our staff works to maintain a safe, strong, positive and friendly atmosphere here in TBK - where all our members feel welcome and can enjoy themselves. Further Information Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have any further questions or concerns, your child can arrange for you to speak to me directly via our IRC program, or you may email me directly at: Dominashroom@hotmail.com -Keanu/TBK_Amethyst Founder and Leader of The Blade Keepers |
