The road to Greenest has been light, but scenic, as you slowly make your way through the countryside of the Kingdom of Valeria, formerly known as the Burning Coast. You have each taken different paths to get to this point, but each path was as uneventful as the other. The lush plains of the coast don't allow for many hiding places for bandits or ambushes, and even so, adventurers such as yourselves don't typically have much difficulty with the random brigands and thieves that find themselves lurking in the shadows, waiting for unsuspecting prey. Upon approaching the city, however, you immediately sense that something is wrong as the sun dips down towards the horizon. The normal sounds of summer suddenly draw quiet, instead replaced by screams and what sounds like the crackling of flames. You hear a cacophonous explosion, shaking the ground at your feet, even as far away from the town as you are, and your pace immediately quickens. As you crest the top of the hill that looks down into the valley where Greenest lies, you see a city in flames. From your distance, you can make out humanoid creatures frantically running around, causing chaos and attempting to strike down any villagers that come their way and, amongst all of the chaos down in the city streets, you hear an enormous "whoosh" as a blue dragon flaps its wings, soaring over your head and dipping down towards the town before letting off a blast of lightning that hits something, causing a massive explosion in the center of town. Your pace quickens and each of you passes through the gates into the town at different times, all ending up in the town square at roughly the same time, each on different sides of the square, looking and surveying the damage done to the city. Before you can react to anything, however, you notice three kobolds and what appears to be some sort of dragon-like creature anarchically destroying the town square. They are all too preoccupied with their current task to take notice of any of you. What would you like to do? As far as who is who, Jareth is the top left token, Soliel is the top right and Oakenheel is the bottom left. Also, click on the spoiler to see an explanation of the map. Jareth lifts his short sword, breathing heavily from the charge at the kobold and cleaves down on him, leaving a gaping gash running down the monster's chest as it shrieks in pain, shuddering from the impact of the blade and on its last legs, but still barely standing and drawing breath. The attack, however, draws the attention of the other Kobolds and the dragon-like creature that is with them. Roll For Initiative 1) Soliel - 20 2) Ambush Drake 3) Kobolds 4) Jareth - 13 5) Ulric - 8 Soliel is up first.

Soleil steps closer to the edge of the building, watching the kobold a few feet in front of her. She draws an arrow from her quiver, knocking it in her longbow and utters the incantation for Crimson Rite. As her blood begins to boil and run through her weapon, she whistles, garnering the kobold's attention. When he turns, she blows a kiss and takes aim for his eye and lets the arrow fly. [result]16&16,1d20,0,16&1d20[/result] + 3 + 2 to hit. Edited by DungeonMaster, Feb 29 2016, 09:51 PM.

The arrow ignites in Soleil's bow as the Rite takes effect. Flames lick the side of her face as she releases the string, sending the arrow true to its target, finding the kobold's eye and piercing it, the feathers of the bow keeping it from flying straight through the tiny creature's head as the arrow sticks out of the back of its head and it falls to its knees, then slumps to the ground, dead. The drake watches the kobold fall to the ground and lets out a bone-chilling hiss as it moves with a frightening silence towards Soleil as she tucks up against the building, grasping at the arrows on her back for her next attack. Up Next: Kobolds

The first of the two remaining kobolds watches his compatriot fall to its knees, an arrow sticking from the back of its head, and turns towards its other compatriot who is nearly cleaved in half. With a horrific shriek it turns and moves towards Jareth, its dagger drawn. Meanwhile, the kobold closest to Jareth raises its dagger to swipe at his attacker as blood oozes from its torso, but in its weakened state its movement is too slow and Jareth easily parries the blow away, the attack failing to find purchase. The first kobold just barely gets his dagger up in time to parry away Jareth's first attack as the mercenary pushes past him, focused on the second kobold. Jareth drives his sword recklessly at the kobold's throat but, in his haste is unable to gain purchase as the kobold is able to see the attack coming and deftly dodges out of the way. Sir Ulric Oakenheel, having observed the utter devastation of Greenest from the sidelines as of now, bows his head and offers a quick prayer to one of the many deities he worships. "Amonkira, Lord of Hunters, grant that my hands be steady, my aim be true, and my feet swift. And should the worst come to pass, grant me forgiveness." After completing his prayer, he smiles a sick sort of smile and draws his battle axe from his back. "Okay, Oakenheel... let's dance." He rushes forward, toward the two kobolds dueling with Jareth, managing to maintain a primal yell so as to maintain the illusion of surprise in a fight like this. He swings his axe in an upward slashing motion at the nearest kobold. Attack: [result]15&12,1d20,3,15&1d20+3+2[/result] |
