The road to Greenest has been light, but scenic, as you slowly make your way through the countryside of the Kingdom of Valeria, formerly known as the Burning Coast. You have each taken different paths to get to this point, but each path was as uneventful as the other. The lush plains of the coast don't allow for many hiding places for bandits or ambushes, and even so, adventurers such as yourselves don't typically have much difficulty with the random brigands and thieves that find themselves lurking in the shadows, waiting for unsuspecting prey.

Upon approaching the city, however, you immediately sense that something is wrong as the sun dips down towards the horizon. The normal sounds of summer suddenly draw quiet, instead replaced by screams and what sounds like the crackling of flames. You hear a cacophonous explosion, shaking the ground at your feet, even as far away from the town as you are, and your pace immediately quickens. As you crest the top of the hill that looks down into the valley where Greenest lies, you see a city in flames. From your distance, you can make out humanoid creatures frantically running around, causing chaos and attempting to strike down any villagers that come their way and, amongst all of the chaos down in the city streets, you hear an enormous "whoosh" as a blue dragon flaps its wings, soaring over your head and dipping down towards the town before letting off a blast of lightning that hits something, causing a massive explosion in the center of town.

Your pace quickens and each of you passes through the gates into the town at different times, all ending up in the town square at roughly the same time, each on different sides of the square, looking and surveying the damage done to the city.

Before you can react to anything, however, you notice three kobolds and what appears to be some sort of dragon-like creature anarchically destroying the town square. They are all too preoccupied with their current task to take notice of any of you. What would you like to do?

As far as who is who, Jareth is the top left token, Soliel is the top right and Oakenheel is the bottom left. Also, click on the spoiler to see an explanation of the map.

The fiery arrow leaves her bowstring, burying it in the side of the drake. The drake whips it's head around, but sees nothing as Soleil skulks backwards, out of its sight. With her gone, it turns its attention back to the one who had fired at it with a crossbow, Jareth.

The drake moves towards Jareth with lightning speed, despite its dire condition. It reaches the edge of the statue next to him and snaps at him, unable to quite reach with its toothy maw, its pungent breath beating down on him an flecks of blood flying from its mouth as it snaps.

Up Next: Jareth

Jareth

Showing no fear, Jareth slides his crossbow on to his back and pulls both his black obsidian swords from his side and continues to charge at the Drake as he shouts in the direction of Soleil and Ulric.

"This distraction of mine better not get me killed".

Then he slashes at the scales of the Drake with all his might.

Jareth's swords slide from the Drake's body as it slumps to the ground, blood pooling around it as he slowly wipes the ebony blades clean of the crimson liquid and slides them back into their scabbards.

You have a small respite from the chaos still burning around you as the three of you stand in the now empty town square.

Jareth

Jareth walks up to the dead drake and kicks it and laughs. Then he turns to look at his two companions in this battle, surveying both. A grin spreads his face, one that says he enjoyed this battle as he gives a slight bow.

"Jareth Burrell..."

Sir Ulric

Ulric adjusts his armor, wincing at the pain the wound has caused across his chest. He gingerly puts his axe over his shoulder and nods.

"Sir Ulric Oakenheel. You may recognize me from such failed attacks as swinging and missing at the kobold who lost his head to your hand, and the non-lethal blow to the first one. Nice work on finishing off the drake, by the way. Wish I could have provided assistance."

He sighs heavily before closing his eyes and folding his hands together.

"Kalahiri, Lady of the Oceans and the Afterlife, we commend these creatures to your care. Provide them the forgiveness they need to cross over the seas into peace."

Jareth

"Forgiveness," Jareth scoffs. "These "creatures" tried to kill us. I hope the bastards burn."

Jareth bends over and starts to rummage his hand over the dead corpses.

"Surely they left something behind." Jareth glances up at Ulrich. "I earned it doing all the heavy lifting while you swung at air."

Sir Ulric

"No judgment here, Jareth. You experienced much more success on this day than I. Amonkira smiled upon you in your hunt."

Ulric rummages through his explorer's pack, finding nothing of import that can help stop the bleeding.

"I hope someone survived this attack. I'd rather not have to steal the equipment I need to fix..."

He motions to his broken armor and the slash across his chest.

"This."

Soleil Moonshadow

Soleil watches the exchange with bemusement, finally deigning to speak. "Pleasure, Jareth and Sir Ulric. I'm Soleil Moonshadow...high elf but more importantly, blood hunter. And before you start taking all the credit for taking out that drake, do me a favor and count the number of arrows sticking out of it's hide. Although, Jareth is it? I have to say thank you for the distraction but don't overestimate your value just yet. When you finally made it, you closed it out well, and for that you have my gratitude."

She tosses her long, blue braid over her shoulder and turns her attention to the carcass. She looks up at Jareth with a smirk and says, "I believe the spoils go to us, don't you think?"

Between Jareth and Soleil, you find [result]12&2:2:4:4,4d4,0,12&4d4[/result] gold pieces on the kobolds. Soleil also finds [result]9&2:3:3:1,4d6,0,9&4d6[/result] gold scattered around the marketplace from the chaos before your arrival.
