The road to Greenest has been light, but scenic, as you slowly make your way through the countryside of the Kingdom of Valeria, formerly known as the Burning Coast. You have each taken different paths to get to this point, but each path was as uneventful as the other. The lush plains of the coast don't allow for many hiding places for bandits or ambushes, and even so, adventurers such as yourselves don't typically have much difficulty with the random brigands and thieves that find themselves lurking in the shadows, waiting for unsuspecting prey. Upon approaching the city, however, you immediately sense that something is wrong as the sun dips down towards the horizon. The normal sounds of summer suddenly draw quiet, instead replaced by screams and what sounds like the crackling of flames. You hear a cacophonous explosion, shaking the ground at your feet, even as far away from the town as you are, and your pace immediately quickens. As you crest the top of the hill that looks down into the valley where Greenest lies, you see a city in flames. From your distance, you can make out humanoid creatures frantically running around, causing chaos and attempting to strike down any villagers that come their way and, amongst all of the chaos down in the city streets, you hear an enormous "whoosh" as a blue dragon flaps its wings, soaring over your head and dipping down towards the town before letting off a blast of lightning that hits something, causing a massive explosion in the center of town. Your pace quickens and each of you passes through the gates into the town at different times, all ending up in the town square at roughly the same time, each on different sides of the square, looking and surveying the damage done to the city. Before you can react to anything, however, you notice three kobolds and what appears to be some sort of dragon-like creature anarchically destroying the town square. They are all too preoccupied with their current task to take notice of any of you. What would you like to do? As far as who is who, Jareth is the top left token, Soliel is the top right and Oakenheel is the bottom left. Also, click on the spoiler to see an explanation of the map. Jareth's obsidian swords glint in the light of the burning town around him as he brings his first attack slicing across the kobold's midsection, disembowling it and spilling its innards out onto the cobblestone. Bloodlust burning through him, he doesn't even recognize that the kobold has fallen, slashing his other sword across the kobold's neck, slicing through it's throat as the monster lets out a bloody gurgle and drops to the ground. Soleil watches Jareth's attack with admiration but shakes her head in disgust. "Cocky bastard." Soleil moves to the left and takes a few paces forward. She pulls her longbow from her shoulder and an arrow from her quiver, knocking it deftly. She turns back to Ulric briefly, "Don't get us killed, would you?" She lets the arrow fly at the approaching kobold. [result]13&13,1d20,0,13&1d20[/result] +3 +2 Edited by Soleil Moonshadow, Mar 3 2016, 09:48 AM.

The arrow bursts into flames as it looses from the bow string, flying true to its target, striking the kobold square in the chest. It knocks the kobold from its feet and the flames slowly lick up and consume its body as it lies motionless on the ground. Up Next: Kobolds

The kobold closest to you steps forward, pulling a sling from its pouch and loading it with a rock. Swinging the sling around its head, it zeroes in on Jareth and lets the stone loose. [result]3&3,1d20,0,3&1d20[/result] + 4 to hit |

The stone flies towards Jareth, but sails harmlessly over his head as the other remaining kobold steps forward, right next to his compatriot, and pulls a sling and rock from his pouch. [result]15&15,1d20,0,15&1d20[/result] + 4 to hit |

The second stone flies true, striking Jareth in the side of his head. A trickle of blood runs from his brow as the kobold screeches triumphantly. Spoiler: click to toggle Up Next: Sir Ulric

Ulric hurries past Soleil, offering her a respectful nod as he clears the side of the building. "Excellent shot, siha. That kobold never stood a chance." Once he clears the building, he sees Jareth get struck in the head by one of the stones launched at him. Fighting his urge to walk past the overly cocky warrior, he sighs heavily and closes his eyes for a second. "Arashu, Goddess of Motherhood and Protection, please guide my thoughts and hands in protecting my new companions... even those who may not always deserve the blessing." He walks over to Jareth, who is clutching his head where the blood is flowing, and lays his hand on his forehead, whispering a silent prayer. Spell: Cure Wounds [result]5&5,1d8,0,5&1d8[/result] + 3 |

Ulric's holy symbol glows bright white as he clasps it in his hand. As he does, the gash over Jareth's brow slowly knits back together, leaving only the trickle of blood running down his face. Next Up: Cultists

The cultist furthest away from you keeps to the side of the building, walking up it slowly, his scimitar drawn menacingly. The next one moves up to stand adjacent to the kobolds, allowing you to see the worn metal mask he wears on his face up close and personal, as the once shiny metal now looks worn and covered in scarring and burn marks. The third, steps around the corner, his cloak flowing in the night breeze, his scimitar glinting from the surrounding fires and charges at Soleil, driving the scimitar towards her with ferocious intent. The glint of the weapon allows Soleil just barely enough time to bring her bow up, minimizing the damage from the lunging attack. The blade, however, still drives itself into her shoulder but not with as much force as the cultist had originally intended. Blood trickles down her shoulder as he jerks the sword back, drawing it from her flesh. Spoiler: click to toggle Up Next: Castellan ![]() |
