The Character Creation Guide

This guide is for you, as a character on the Imprint of Terrapin, to know what is good and what is bad. This guide is also for us, the already approved members, to keep our sanity. It seems like a pretty decent deal to most people, and in just about ten minutes you can have a registration that is totally desirable. Let's begin, shall we?

QUICK SKIP

A1…. Name
A2…. Age
A3…. Biography
A4…. Appearance
A5... Initialise
A6... Role-Play Sample

In a registration, there are several components. There is the age, the gender, the biography, the appearance, and it continues from there. It all seems pretty simple, right? Most members, when they first join, rush through their registration. They believe that quickly doing their post will make them start their journey faster. Please don't feel the need to do this. In fact, if you take more time on it, it will probably be of a greater quality and you can get started quicker.

NAME

[A1]

This, itself, is typically very easy. If you have problems, use anagrams or take a trait of your character and find a foreign version of it. Splice it, reverse it, do anything!

Age

[A2]

Your age determines more than you would typically think. Children won't usually have stats like a teenager or an adult would have; after all, their body is still developing. An elderly person will probably have a higher Intelligence stat than normal as they've been around for many years.

Younglings: 6-12

Younglings have extreme advantages in terms of what they can ride on, get away with, and even play an important role on a team. For starters, younglings are usually small enough to be a little more stealthy than anyone older. They have a much easier time getting away with crimes because they cannot be punished as severely. As a result, many teams are interested in obtaining young members. However, younglings have a downside.

Younglings will typically be less important to the general public. It also seems rather strange when a youngling applies for a job, but you decide. Lastly, younglings cannot really sprawl themselves into a romantic relationship if they desire so, because younglings are quite uncommon.

Teenagers: 13-17

Teenagers have a slightly less advantageous career, but there are many fortunes to what would appear a mistake. Teenagers are the most commonly picked age in any RP. The idea of being a cool version of yourself seems rather pleasing. On the good side of being a teenager, you can’t get much more of a punishment than maybe chopping wood for a day (a walk in the park for your character!). You’re also somewhat attracted to others. You are less likely to be stared-down when you apply for an apprenticeship or something of the sort. Unfortunately, you are also probably a prime source for someone to rob. It’s all about how you play your cards.

Adults: 18+

Adults have a very monstrous advantage over others. They are generally taller than teenagers and younglings, so they have the ability to bully them around if they desire to. They can apply for any job without much suspicion. They can obtain alcohol and cigarettes without being swarmed, which would typically be considered as a good thing. They have a lot more flexibility, but if they exercise crime too much, they can be sentenced to court and prison, so be warned.

Biography

[A3]

Your biography is the essence of your registration and profile, and ultimately sorts the heroes from the nonbelievers. The biography is extremely important in how your character’s make-up, belief on things, and motives function. Below are some tips for when you make your biography.

Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation, and all that Jazz

Your main goal, besides creating a good overall story, is to have something that doesn’t motivate the reader to gouge their eyes out when they see the word “know” spelled in an array of ways. When writing your biography, it is recommended to do everything in your power to have excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

The next step, after understanding the basics of the English language, is getting a decent plot.

The Plot

Your plot is constantly going to haunt you when you apply for a party or a quest if it isn’t sub-par at the least. There are the fantastic plots, there are the decent plots, there are the terrible plots, and there are the unoriginal plots.

The fantastic plots may consist of something totally unknown. The decent plots may be the parents dying in a war. The terrible plots may be the parents dying from an angry bunny. Then, there are the unoriginal plots. The kid getting a really good weapon for his birthday? Yeah, we’ve heard it. The kid runs away because he has no reason to? Trash it, bud. If your plot is good enough, it may even affect what happens later on in your journey. Your plots should reflect your character’s overall personality. If your character is evil, there should be evidence of that in your biography. There is a multitude of plots you may decide on, and there’s no excuse for being a 13-year-old runaway bunny-orphaned boy who got a sword for his twelfth birthday.

As strange as it may sound, it is smart to blatantly say if you are a criminal or hero. Criminal recruiters will be more interested in you if you say that you plan to be a criminal. Heroic parties will be more interested in you if you say that you plan to be a hero. As blunt as it may seem, it really does help.

Appearance

[A4]

Please, rather than spending a long time on this, focus on your biography and just about everything else. Your appearance doesn’t really have much to do with your future. It won’t drive anyone to recruit you. In fact, it won’t even make you happy when you’ve spent four hours on a simple recolor and you soon realize your registration has been declined because you posted a biography like the example above. When picking your clothes, think about your character’s general view on things. If he’s a criminal, he’s probably not going to be wearing a popped pink collar and some tangerine-colored golf shorts.

You should pick two good paragraphs at least to describe your character. Be sure to say the color of his hair, muscle tone, weight, height, eye color, clothing style, hair style, skin tone, accessories, or anything else you choose to add!

Initialise

[A5]

Here's another important part of your application. Your biography and your RP sample should reflect this, straight off the bat. You can't post exactly what stats you want, but be sure to mention any important points. If your character is strong, say so. If he's good at dodging, mention it in this part and we'll take notice.
You also want to choose a Class. As of typing this, there are no classes, but we hope to change this in the near future. When you have a class, it dictates what armour you can wear, what skills you can use, how your stats will raise, etc.

Once you've posted this (It doesn't take too long, but it's still important), you have your last step.

Role-Play Sample

[A6]

And then you have your Role-Play sample. It's here so that we can see how good you are at RPing. If you're great, then good for you, it'll definitely help. If your RP sample, however, is either too short (two paragraphs minimum, though the longer the better), has a lot of bad grammar and spelling, is overly cliched (you can have one if you so desire, but please don't have your character be a Mary Sue!), or has any combination of the above, we'll have no choice but to stall you from getting an Approval.
That's not to say we won't help you, though. We'll tell you what's wrong with it, and ask you to fix it up. When that's done, we'll approve it if it's good enough, and no harm done. Good things to give us a sample of is your character's everyday life, or an important event in their life.

And that's it! If you fill all of these out successfully, then congratulations on having an approved character in the Desolation! When approved, you may need to wait a few hours for your character's location to be set.
