So the film received a PG-13 rating after being given an R last year/2014. Here's what I think (copied from a post I replied to on IMDb). Here's the argument:

<snip>

Phew. Anyone agree and see where I'm coming from with this? What do you all think?
I agree. Good essay, there.

This wasn't a movie I had a lot of hope for to begin with. Like you said, it's an Amityville sequel, and it probably won't even be the worst one. It may come close, but that's beside the point. Nobody's expected quality from this series in a long time, so why should the people marketing this? Their leading lady is a social media star above all, so they're capitalizing on that big-time by working social media references -- as dumb as they are -- into the marketing. This film's probably gonna suck, but it'll have nothing to do with the PG-13 rating.
KEEP AMERICA GREAT

This won't even come close to the worst of the franchise. The franchise really is horrible and Jennifer Jason Leigh's involvement in this makes it better than a good deal of the films in this franchise.

New poster. Man they are really banking on Bella Thorne to bring in that teen audience. This is the first film of hers that is really relying on her name and star power to be a success.

When you walk into the room. You pull me close and we start to move
And we're spinning with the stars above. And you lift me up in a wave of love
Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth? Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first. We'll make heaven a place on earth
