Monster movie fans Sean & Patrick find themselves in over their heads when their club, the Monster Squad, finds itself under siege by the forces of evil they had previously only believed to be of the cinematic variety when Dracula & several other classical icons arrive in town to retrieve a magical amulet that will help them rule the world. Now, the pair will have to team up with their insecure friend, Horace, their younger companion, Eugene, Sean's rebellious sister, Phoebe, & their newest member, Rudy, the toughest guy in school. Using their collective knowledge of monster movies & the discovery of Abraham Van Helsing's diary to their advantage, it's up to them to defeat the monsters prior to midnight on Halloween lest they end the world as they know it.

Admittedly, there's some problematic things about this movie, such as the homophobic expletives used by certain charries & one particularly questionable action by a charrie, but ultimately these things rly didn't do significant damage to my viewing this past October. I hadn't seen this film for YEARS, but based upon the amount of times I watched during my formative years, my love for it never faded, but until I watched, I truly did not grasp the extent of that love. It's got everything an 80s loving bastard like myself could want & more, catchy dialogue, cheesy scenarios, a musical montage, adult themes where they have no business being, & an emotional anchor to tie everything nicely together. Now, I could possibly be biased w/ how early I was exposed to this film, but it's one I DEFINITELY recommend ppl see @ least once in their lives cuz it rly is just nothing more than a rly light-hearted piece of cinema that took far more risks than modern day "children's movies" do, which is undoubtedly y it's gained the cult status that it has. I'm probz gonna end up rewatching it sometime this month cuz it hit me HARD on how little I had remembered until I started watching & I can't fathom y this didn't get a sequel, cuz it deserved one after that ending. :aricry:
