ACTIVITY CHECK!!!

Posted by +Monica (Governor) at Apr 3 2012, 02:36 PM. 17 comments

Alright guys! So it's about that time once again, but before we begin there are a couple of announcements I want to share with the whole of you.

What you all are not aware of is that myself and the rest of the staff have been in talks about TLA v3.0. We've been discussing revamps and possible changes to certain things structure and character wise. Nothing has been set in stone as of yet but come the end of this activity check we will know for certain which moves we can/will take, and there is a high possibility it may effect characters 1st year through 5th year. We will keep you guys posted but as for now you can continue on as you have been.

Second, you might have noticed it's been May for quite some time lolz. We haven't forgotten, we've just simply frozen time so that people can play catch up with threads. We'll inform you all when time is moving onwards once more!

NOW! On with the Activity Check! lolz You guys have the regular 2 weeks to submit the names of the characters you wish to keep. This thread will close at 11:59pm central time on April 17th. Any characters in the Inactive groups then will be deleted and any characters not claimed here will be moved into the Inactive groups. If you are Unsorted or in the Inactive group be sure to get yourself sorted/resorted!

Also know that the results from this activity check are quite crucial so PLEASE fill out this form when submitting EACH character.

Regarding New Registrations!

Posted by +Monica (Governor) at Nov 30 2011, 04:24 PM. 0 comments

As you may or may not have noticed, there has been a temporary hold on new female character registrations and gay/bi males. If you've recently created one but have not been sorted yet do not fear, you are grandfathered in. However, any new registrants from this moment on must be of the straight male persuasive. There are twice the amount of female characters on the site and hardly no straight males and so we're now looking to balance things out. Once the sexes are just about equal the hold will be lifted.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Here's your chance to add music to a playlist that you feel reminds you of certain things about TLA. I really want to make this an awesome experience so any one that wants to add music just do so. There's no limit of how many songs you add. I want every ones taste to really shine.

Just post your requests like so

Code Tags

Posted by +Destiny (Governor) at Jul 24 2011, 02:53 PM. 0 comments

Hey guys and dolls!

I wanted to take a second and talk about code tags and their importance on TLA. Though they may seem like something small they actually do help us staff here. They help us to easily and quickly update lists such as face claims, abilities and so forth. We don't have to go and hit edit for everyone that posts but rather copy and paste so we can move along to the next claim request. Please use code tags when you see that the topic your posting in requires it. The staff team has been instructed to delete anyone that doesn't post using the code tags when it's required.

Every topic that requires them has this warning in red letters to better stand out.

^POST MUST LOOK LIKE THIS OR YOUR CLAIM WILL BE DENIED; USE CODE TAGS^

For an example when your posting a face claim your post should look exactly like this:

Code:

[b]Michael Trevino[/b] - James Potter

The code box surrounds your claim and also shows the coding for the updating staff member to add on to the list quickly and accurately.

Also make sure that when your filling out a form that your not deleting part of the premade form. If you want to make sure it's going to show up correctly hit the preview button at the bottom of your post box before adding your code tag. Once you've previewed it add in the code tags so that the staff can again update the topic accurately.

How do you add code tags? Simple you place [*CODE] at the start of your post and at the end you close it with [*/CODE] Please note that you have to remove both the asterisks or it won't show up right.

That was all I really had to talk about (: so thank you for reading this and helping us while we help you! ^_^

Class Schedules

Posted by +Monica (Governor) at Jul 6 2011, 03:53 PM. 0 comments

SCHEDULE OF CLASSES BY YEAR

First Year Classes:

  • Astronomy
  • Charms
  • Defense Against the Dark Arts
  • Herbology
  • History of Magic
  • Potions
  • Transfiguration
  • Flying (First Years only)

June: finals (exams)

Second Year Classes:

Same classes as first year. During the Easter holidays, students choose two or more additional classes for year 3.

Elective Classes:

  • Ancient Runes
  • Arithmancy
  • Care of Magical Creatures
  • Divination
  • Muggle Studies
  • Appirations (Sixth Year only, those of age 17 only, fee of 12 Galleons)

June: finals (exams)

Third Year Classes

Same classes as second year, add two new subjects. Students may drop an elective class if they wish but they are required to continue with the core classes begun in first year.

June: finals (exams)

Fourth Year

Same classes as third year, begin preparing for O.W.L.s. Students may drop an elective class if they wish but they are required to continue with the core classes begun in first year.

June: finals (exams)

Fifth Year Classes:

Same classes as fourth year. Students may drop an elective class if they wish but they are required to continue with the core classes begin in first year.

June: Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.s)

Sixth Year Classes:

Students don't know what their classes for sixth year will be until after they receive the results of their O.W.L.s. Once they have their O.W.L. results, the students know whether they have achieved the required grades to get into the classes they're interested in for sixth year. On the first day of term, each student meets with his or her Head of House to determine which classes he or she can take. If the student did not pass an O.W.L., he or she discusses options with the Head of House.

If a student achieved the required O.W.L. in a particular subject (which varies from teacher to teacher), he or she may continue in that subject, but is not required to do so. For example, several (well, all, as far as we know) of Harry's year opted to drop out of Care of Magical Creatures, much to Hagrid's dismay.

June: finals (exams)

Seventh Year Classes:

Seventh years concentrate on taking classes in their chosen fields. These should be the same classes chosen in their Sixth Year.

June: Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s)

Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.s)

At the end of fifth year, each student sits an Ordinary Wizarding Level (O.W.L.) for each of the classes he or she takes. These are standardized tests administered by the Wizarding Examinations Authority; the teachers may proctor exams outside their own subjects but do not attend the Ordinary Wizarding Level (O.W.L.) in their own subjects.

Each O.W.L. has a theory portion, and for applicable classes a separate practical portion is given, so that many O.W.L.s are in two parts, although only one O.W.L. score is given for each subject. See the individual classes for the details of the material covered in the individual exams.

Pass Grades

  • Outstanding (O)
  • Exceeds Expectations (E)
  • Acceptable (A)

Fail Grades

  • Poor (P)
  • Dreadful (D)
  • Troll (T)

Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s)

At the end of seventh year, each student sits a Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test (N.E.W.T.) for each of the classes he or she takes. These are standardized tests administered by the Wizarding Examinations Authority, given at the same time and apparently in the same way that O.W.L.s are given to fifth-year students.

Quidditch

Posted by +Headmistress Isabelle Knightley (Governor) at Jun 29 2011, 04:35 PM. 3 comments

Hey guys! So as the topic suggests this announcement is about dear old Quidditch! For those of you who've been around for a while you'll remember how Quidditch was once handled around here. Now I feel it's time we bring it back! For those of you who don't know Quidditch here is played sort of like a trivia game. When there are matches going on the Referee, who ever that may be, will ask questions and the first to answer the question correctly will receive points. The Seekers on each team at a certain point in the game will have to search the site for the golden snitch in order to win 150 points for their team.

There's a designated section of the site where questions and answers will be posted for the Referees to refer to. We'll want at least 2 but no more than 4 people able to Referee, so if you're interested in that post in this thread. You'll be given a password before each game as the pass code will be changed after every game.

You are only allowed one character to play quidditch. This is to keep the teams open for people to join. This way you choose which house you want to win and only work for that team. This includes secret characters, if one of your knowns plays for a team, you can't have an unknown playing for a different team.

Right now we don't have enough people to fill each team but I figured I'd post this up so that it is official and so everyone knows the Quidditch situation. If you want to move this along more quickly get your friends to join up! lolz

Only six matches will be played over the term. The schedule will be:
  • Gryffindor v. Slytherin
  • Hufflepuff v. Ravenclaw
  • Ravenclaw v. Slytherin
  • Gryffindor v. Hufflepuff
  • Hufflepuff v. Slytherin
  • Gryffindor v. Ravenclaw

Of The Months

Since we're going to be doing the of the months I thought it would be nice to make a list so that people can see who's gotten and when. That...and it would make it easier so we don't forget to change it haha

Finished an RP!

Posted by +Headmistress Isabelle Knightley (Governor) at Feb 8 2010, 09:16 PM. 0 comments

Hey guys, so during the summer holidays on TLA you'll post here once you're done with your threads since House Points are only valid during the school year. Also if you do NOT have a student character at all you should post your finished threads here as you can not receive house points.

House Points

Posted by +Headmistress Isabelle Knightley (Governor) at Dec 19 2009, 12:53 PM. 37 comments

The following reasons are valid for receiving points:

  • Voting (if you vote reply in THIS THREAD that you've voted and what the IN number was after you've voted; gets you 2 points per site)
  • You can be awarded House Points in character (Profs. reply to THIS THREAD if you've awarded and/or taken away house points, but don't go point crazy in either direction)
  • You can receive house points for FINISHING a RP. One person from the RP must REPLY TO THIS THREAD with a list of names of all who took part in the RP. They must have played a role, they can't have just been there standing and watching! (Each person involved receives 15 house points) *DOES NOT APPLY IN CLASSROOMS
  • You can receive house points by finishing homework assignments. PROFESSORS must REPLY IN THIS THREAD the names of those who complete homework assignments. (Each student who finishes a homework assignment will receive 15 house points)
  • You can receive house points by RPing in your classroom. You need to post AT LEAST 7 times in a classroom! They have to be meaningful posts as well. NO ONE LINERS! (Each person who posts 7 MEANINGFUL posts will receive 20 house points)
  • You can receive house points by participating in a graphics challenge. (See forum for amounts)
  • You can receive house points by filling graphics requests. You will receive 5 house points per filled request.

As of now this is the list, though it can and/or will grow. But in the meantime, get those points coming in if you want your house to win!

IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE CHARACTERS IN THE SAME HOUSE YOU CAN ONLY VOTE ONCE ON A CHARACTER IN THAT HOUSE. HOWEVER IF YOU HAVE ONE CHARACTER IN GRYFFINDOR, AND ONE IN HUFFLEPUFF YOU MAY VOTE ONCE FOR EACH. THERE IS NO VOTING TWICE PER HOUSE.
