  • The midnight moon shone greatly in the sky, making the freshly fallen snow glow and glitter. It was perfect for Lara, and the cold weather didn't bother her at all. She walked gracefully through the soft snow, and when she reached the bench, she looked up at the tree. Fresh snow had fallen on it as well, just as it had everything else around. Lara used to hate all cold weather, but now, weather was the least of her concerns, unless of course it was a very sunny day, then she'd have to make second thoughts.

The tree looked oddly welcoming, a few branches crooked this way and that, making it look like a nice spot to perch for a while. She glanced around. She didn't think anyone would see her with it this dark, but the snow did give everything a glow. Lara sighed, would it make a difference? And with that thought in her head, she gave a little jump, and was up in the perch of the tree, just like she desired. She wasn't wearing winter attire at all, and this would concern humans, who were far to sensitive to weather. Some tight, dark jeans, and a gray v-neck shirt with a turquoise leopard's face covering the front. Complete with turquoise leopard flats, and her favorite accessory, the turquoise heart necklace.

RJ had appreciated living in the Vanth household over winter break, and he was enjoying the time spent with Arianna and her mother, but he needed to get away for a while.

He was tired - having not slept in over twenty-four hours, but at the same time he was restless. On top of that he was beginning to feel the effects of not being able to eat a real meal since Dana's death. Over all, he felt terrible. Perhaps a long walk in the cold December air would wear him out enough to put him to sleep for a while. RJ figured it was worth a shot - After all, a walk around London might help him clear his mind for a while, too.

RJ didn't have a destination in mind, he only went where his feet led him. After a half hour or so, he noticed that he was near the apartment. As he walked by the building, he couldn't help but miss his little bedroom on the top floor, the kitchen, everything. But most of all, he missed his cousin, Lara. He hadn't seen her since before Dana's death, and he felt a little empty without her. Perhaps going inside to say hello wouldn't be so bad ...
No ... Cassie and Reno were inside and he couldn't stand to see them again.

Just before RJ turned around to go back to the Vanth's house, he heard a noise coming from the garden. His curiousity was too much to resist. He slowly wandered over to the fence and peered into the garden. There in the tree sat Lara, but what was she doing up there? RJ had no idea, and he wasn't about to ask either. He looked awful - tired, unwell, his face was still cut and bruised, and his nose was still a little swollen from Reno's furious fist. If Lara saw him like that, she would no doubt ask questions - questions that RJ couldn't answer.

With a light shake of his head RJ turned around and began to walk away.

  • Lara picked up a human scent, but much longer than that she heard approaching footsteps. She stayed perfectly silent, hoping to go completely unnoticed. And after a moment or two of pausing, she could hear them descend away, and Lara glanced out of the corner of her eye to see who the human was.

The conclusion shocked her, and she leaned forward, desperate to get a little glimpse of her cousin. The wrong move, was to lean forward, especially out on a limb like this. SNAP! "OOMPH!" she didn't even cringe though, it was mostly the fall that had her react. She was surprised she didn't land so well, she would think being immortal this long, she would adjust to the whole "graceful" thing. Not Lara, of course not. That was just her luck.

Knowing her cousin had heard the snapping and her commotion, she stood from the ground, dented from her impact. 'I walk away unscathed, and the ground looks like shit.', she smirked, and jerked her head back up. "RJ?" she called out, hope in her graceful, angelic tone.

What was that sound? It sounded like a snap, or a thud, or both. RJ hustled back to the fence to find a tree branch broken in half and Lara on the ground looking straight at him with a sheepish expression on her face. He didn't worry about the cuts and bruises on his face or how unwell he looked anymore - he quickly opened the gate and ran to his couins side. "Are you alright?" He asked, offering a hand to her.

  • Lara shrugged and took RJ's hand, lifting herself up, but careful not to pull herself down with him. Her skin was still ice cold, but she wondered if he'd still take notice in weather like this. She dusted off her pants and looked to the ground. "It think he's been through worse", she smiled, then looked to RJ. Her jaw dropped and she gasped, her eyes growing wide. Though she hadn't spoken to her cousin in a while, they didn't exactly end on good terms either, Lara still cared and showed affection. "RJ! What-What happened?!"

RJ was relieved to see Lara smile at first. It had been a while, and he really missed seeing her happy. But suddenly her happy expression was replaced with an expression of fear and shock. He took a deep breath and gave the building a seemingly casual once over, wondering what Cassie and Reno were doing in there. They could have been spying on him, watching him talk to Lara. He knew he had to be very careful about what he said. After a moment he looked back at Lara. "Nothing." He replied bluntly. "Just a little ... Accident."

  • Lara knew that he was hiding sometime but she shrugged, deciding not to push him, he obviously was trying to hide something from her, and she could understand that. She had to trust her cousin, he was the only family she had...well, that she knew well. She sad down on a rock and let out a sigh. "Can I let you in on something?", she glanced up her cousin. "You remember how I said, i'd die before I would turn away from you?" a sly smirk appeared on her face. Of course, she was pretty much the living dead now, maybe he would understand.

RJ hadn't been counting on a deep conversation at first, but by Lara's question he felt one coming on. He took a moment to simply look at her and study her glistening eyes. There was something on her mind but he couldn't tell if it was good, bad, or both just yet. Whatever it was, he wanted to know. Finally he crossed his arms and shook his head lightly. "Yeah, I remember."

  • Lara stared up at RJ with the same expression on her face. Her eyes were a deep redbrown; she had just had her feeding on an animal. They always grew extremely bloody dark brown when hungry. She decided on how she would let the words out. She was here, sitting on a snowed down, icey cold rock, in a t-shirt and flats; it didn't bother her. She couldn't just say "i'm a vampire", no that'd be too forward. And she opened her mouth, but chickened out. "You know that the Ancient Runes professor is my aunt?". She knew her previous words had nothing to do with the statement, but it was also important.

RJ stood still for a moment with a blank expression - he really wasn't getting it. Lara's words were not registering ... The Ancient Runes Professor, her aunt? How could that be? RJ's mind couldn't quite wrap itself around the information given to him at first, so he just stood there, staring at Lara for several long moments. Finally, it all started to sink in and his eyes widened. "What?" He asked, rather loudly. RJ could feel his heart begin to pump with adrenaline ... An aunt? That would mean that Professor Adkins was his aunt too.

RJ looked away for a moment while he tried to collect himself. Just like when he and Lara learned that they were cousins, he felt like he had been slapped in the face, but in a somewhat good way. After another moment or two, he looked back at Lara. "How is that possible?"

  • Lara smiled, pleased with RJ's reaction. Her's was also similar, except she was surprised she didn't rip her head off then and there when she got the news. She shrugged her shoulders. "My mother's half sister" she laughed and looked back up at the tree as a few flecks of snow fell from the branches. "I'm kind of in shock, but a lot's been going on lately...", her gaze dropped back to her feet and she sighed.

"You can say that again." RJ muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets and looking down at his feet. He was physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted after everything that had happened towards the end of the term, and not a thing was getting better. He knew a little bit of what Lara meant, but he was still curious. After a moment he looked back up at her, tilting his head to the side and giving her a questioning look. "What's been going on with you lately?" He asked before pausing for a moment. "And I don't mean just recently, what's been going on with you since this past summer? I - I feel like you've changed a lot, and I know there's something you're not telling me."

  • Lara glanced away from her feet, and focused on the bottom of the tree trunk instead. "Let's just say i'm not the same Lara that graduated last term...", she muttered, her brownred eyes shiny with fresh tears ready to fall from her eyes. Quickly, she shut them tight and took a deep breath. She'd be okay, for now at least. Lara slowly turned her head back to RJ, and stared deeply into his eyes, even though they were about a few feet apart, Lara felt as if he was right there.

RJ took a small step forward, not in the mood to play the game he felt he had been playing with Lara for months now and he wanted answers. "Why not? Why are you so different now?" He asked in a stern yet soft tone of voice, his weary hazel eyes gently fixed on Lara's.
