RJ shrugged. Pretty much. RJ stood up as well. Although he was a lot shorter than Cassie, he thought that coming to her level would bring his point across a little better. To better answer your first question. He began. I care because I know what it's like to be hurt. But I also care because there's not enough time to be careless. You have to reach out to people now because tomorrow, they might not be there. He sat back down, hoping that Cassie would calm down and do the same. |

Cassie ground her teeth together. "That is SO wrong..." she muttered. Taking a deep breath, she sat back down on RJ's bed, next to him. She scooted back so that she was out of the light the moon cast through the window. She never trusted moon light any more. He thinks someone else is doing this to me... She almost smiled inwardly. Boy, is he wrong. Thinking about her parents again, she nodded. "Yeah, they might not..." |

RJ scratched the back of his head again before grinning at Cassie. My kindergarden teacher said that it's polite to take turns. I told you my story first, now what's yours? |

Cassie grimanced. She was afraid this was coming. Unfortunatly, she know felt she owed RJ something for opening up so much to her. She stood and paced away from him, standing in the shadows. She didn't know how to tell this without giving too much away. She started slowly; "Well, my mom was an auror for the Ministry, and my dad was a notorious ex-death eater who kept up the fighting long after the last battle at Hogwarts. When she was assigned to hunt him down, she didn't expect to fall in love with him. Who would?" She smiled slightly in the dark. "But she did. Pretty much at first sight. They both left their... jobs, if you can call what my dad did a 'job', and went into hiding. After a few years, they came back into London with new names and historys. Then, Olivia, my sister was born, and 4 years later, me. But my parents had problems of their own to deal with. One night, they had a... fight, you could call it. One thing lead to another, and my father killed my mother." She sighed, thinking back on what she could remember of that night. It wasn't pleasants, and it wasn't much. "I was so little, just 7 or 8. And, I only heard voices..." This was hard than she thought to talk about. She leaned back against the far wall and closed her eyes as she continued, silently fighting tears back. "My father told me time and time again that he didn't mean too, and I believed him. Unfortunatly, he couldn't live with himself. I found him dead one morning, about a week later. He had posioned himself... That left me and Olivia to fend for ourselves in the heart of London. We've lived on the streets with a bunch of other kids for years, stealing and fighting and doing what we needed to survive on our own." She came back into the light, towards RJ. Her face was covered with tear tracks, but they were very quiet tears. She sat back down next to him. She didn't continue, and didn't explain the scars and cuts. If he wanted to know, he would ask, and she wouldn't tell him either way. She sat there silently. "I've never spoken about this before, to anyone. Not even my sister and I have talked about it..." Why did I just tell him then? She shook her head, and wiped the face quickly, laughing lightly at herself. "How ridiciously screwed up am I?" she asked. |

RJ listened to Cassie's story, mouth agape and eyes wide. In his mind he pictured a sketchy image of the events as Cassie described them. He couldn't imagine actually seeing his parents get killed or kill themselves. He shook his head disapprovingly at her last question. Not at all. He replied as he looked up at her. |

Cassie looked over at RJ. "And that's not even the half of it..." she said miserably. She looked up over head to the pearly moon light flitering down on her. Her stomach churned as she remembered that the moon would be full tomorrow night. She jumped up suddenly. "I have to go... RJ, can you promise me something?" she asked him. "Don't go into the woods tomorrow night... you know what, don't even leave your room tomorrow night, ok? Just... don't." And with that, she hurried out of the room. I'm getting far too close to RJ... I shouldn't have told him anything... |

RJ sat on his bed, startled by Cassie's warning. Something was very wrong and he needed to know what. He looked at the floor in deep thought for a few minutes, before lying back down to think some more. What if who was hurting Cassie was out in the woods? RJ's heart began to race as he imagined Cassie being mistreated among the trees. The images were too horrifing for him, but no matter what he could not stop seeing them. He tried thinking of Millie, his father, piano's, but nothing could shake the scary thoughts. |

After making a few more preparations, Gabby found herself outside of the Layne Apartments. She come here for a few reasons, reasons that she thought would be best if she stated them in person. The ministry needed her expertises on a secret mission and she had been an Auror prior to teaching so she fully excepted it. Most of all the plans had been taken care of, she had found someone who she fully trusted could lead her beloved house, Gryffindor. Though she would be sad to be away from her students for a while, she knew that in the end the mission she was taking on would help keep them all safe and secure that they had a bright future. She sighed as she walked up to his room door and lightly knocked on it. |

RJ had been packing for the trip for a little over thirty minutes, and already he felt his attention wandering off to random places and things. He was sitting on his bed messing with the settings of the camera Professor Cortez had given him for his birthday, when suddenly he heard a knock on his door. The sound brought him out of his daze and back into reality, so he set the camera down and made his way over to the door. He eagerly unlocked it and swung it wide open, expecting to see Lara standing on the other side, but it wasn't Lara ... It was Professor Cortez! RJ couldn't hide how surprised he was - His hazel eyes grew wide and his jaw fell slightly open as he fought for words to greet her with. "Professor Cortez?" He began, still fighting back his surprise and confusion. "What are you doing here? I mean ... It's nice to see you and everything ... " RJ stopped himself before he said anything really stupid, and simply shrugged his shoulders and waited for a response. |

Gabby smiled slightly at RJ's stunned face, she had forgotten that her visit may have seemed a bit out of the ordinary to him but to her it was a conversation she couldn't miss. "Hello Mr. Sullivan..I'm sorry to interrupt you, I'm sure your busy finalizing plans for your trip to Egypt no?" She smiled lightly as her eye caught sight of the camera she'd bought for him for his birthday. "I wanted to personally tell you something, something thats going to affect Gryffindor, if you have a free moment that is." |

"You can call me RJ, if you want. But yeah, I'm really excited for it!" He replied with a smile. RJ couldn't help but tilt his head in curiosity. What was going on with Gryffindor, and why did Professor Cortez want to talk to him about it? RJ quickly stepped to the side, pushing the door along with him to allow the Professor to come into the room. "I have a free lifetime." He joked with a bit of a chuckle. RJ gave the Professor a sweet grin. He had always been fond of her, and just being in her presence gave him a strange sense of peace that he couldn't remember feeling around anyone else. |

She nodded and walked into the room, she looked around and it brought a sad smile to her face. She herself had never had kids of her own so her students where the closest she had to being a mother. She put another smile on, one that wouldn't show how sad she was about it all and turned back around to face him. "Yes I'm sure you are, the halls where buzzing about the trip the whole last week of term. You and your classmates should have a really great time, Egypt is a beautiful place." She stopped for a moment to gather how she was going to say what she needed to. Her thoughts ran back to the day when she'd found out his living situation and how she'd taken immediate action on getting him out of it. "First off I wanted to tell you that you've made Prefect for next term. I trust that you will lead our house well, your such a respectable young man." |

It was true, everyone was excited about the trip, and even those who weren't able to go had been talking about it throughout the past term. It made RJ feel great knowing that thanks to Professor Cortez, he would be one of the select few going on the trip. His mind wandered away slightly to the sandy deserts and large pyramids, but suddenly, he heard something that surprised him even more than seeing the Professor standing outside of his door. "you've made Prefect ... " RJ did a double take at the Professor, and once again found himself fighting for the right words to say. "What? Prefect?!" He blurted out. "I ... I didn't even apply for Prefect ... Did I?" |

Gabby couldn't help but laugh at the young Gryffindors expression that he'd made house prefect. It was true that he hadn't applied for it be after talking it over with the new head she thought it would be more than fitting to pick him, she believed in him and that he would keep up with the standers that she expected of those in her beloved house. "No you would be correct in saying that you didn't apply for it but I thought that you would be perfect for such a task, therefore I want you to be a house prefect...do you accept?" She asked, fully knowing what the outcome would be but wanted to give the boy a chance to ponder it. |

"Well, I guess I finally did something right if you're asking me to be Prefect." RJ stood there in silence for a moment, thinking about the responsibilities of being Prefect that he so far knew nothing about. Thankfully, he could go to Lucy Weasley and his own cousin, Lara for advice. As he continued to think, RJ thought back to everything Professor Cortez had done for him so far. She virtually rescued him from his insane mother, she stepped in and covered all costs for him to go to Egypt, and she went an extra mile to buy him a camera for his birthday ... And in the midst of all of this, RJ couldn't think of one time he had properly thanked the Professor for everything she had done for him. He figured that he could now, by accepting her offer and then make her proud as a Gryffindor prefect. "I accept." He boldly replied. A bright smile came to his face, extending from one ear to the next as the shock of the moment faded away and excitement set in. |
