How is this for a siggie attempt, so far? How can I improve it? What kind of text would you recommend?

Thanks!

It's not bad. I'm not a fan of backgrounds like that but that's just me. *nods* The crop job isn't that bad either, I just happen to be kinda a perfectionist on my own work. The coloring in the two pictures are a bit off so I would suggest trying to balance it out, what program do you use? Maybe I can walk you through it. As for text, I'm going to assume you font, I would use maybe one of the fonts by the peas might work. Fonts For Peas Go there and pick out some you like ^_^ I'd also use a normal standard font maybe like times or something like that. Also textures might be a good thing to look into.

Haha, a lot of that went over my head - I'm using photoshop but I'm really new to it. How do you use textures? And how can I crop better?

Thanks for checking it out!

XD yeah.. um let me show you one of the sigs I made with a texture so you can see what I'm talking about:

I only used two textures for that particular sig, I used clouds and a sparkle texture. You can use almost anything as a texture, how you use them on sigs is fairly easy. With your sig open, paste the texture on top of it. On your layer pallet you should see your sig and the texture you just pasted. Select the texture and play around with the types of layers (the scroll menu, normal should be the first choice) you can also set the opacity to fit your taste. Once your done you can either merge the layers together or if you don't like it then drag the texture layer to the trash can at the bottom of your layer pallet.

Cropping is fun! Not lol it takes time to be able to crop really well. Normally what I do is open a new canvas, and paste both pictures inside, then use the great eraser tools. I'm loving the magic eraser tool now too just so ya know, saves major time. There are other ways to crop to but this one I find is the best way for me.

It's cool, I like the font face you used and the background is looking better too. ^_^

Des gave some really good tips and such but I have to put in my two cents lolz. I'm such a TEXT NAZI >.<, Jake will tell you because I'm always on him about his text lolz. Anywho the font choice if ok, but the text placement and such....

Ok first the name, I could be just a smidge bigger and moved up and to the left slightly. The quote is good, but try putting each one on top of the other and have the font size a bit smaller. Text is a biotch though and it takes time to get better at it >.< but yeah I'll show you some examples og what I'm trying to get at....but these are just examples and what not, you can play around with stuff and such ^_^

Though text placement is very and I mean very important, for me finding the right text is just as important. I'm not a fan of the one you picked, the placement is cool though. Finding the right font sometimes takes a while too, which is going to drive you insane :P welcome to the world of sig making, I hope you have plenty of pain killers lol

So, I'm trying to put text on a sig and it won't show up. Like, the words will be written in the layer section, but not actually on the document. Can't even see the cursor!

The background and foreground colors are good and contrasting
The layer is on top
The opacity and fill are both 100%

Any ideas?

save the document as a psd file and close photoshop. then reopen it and try again. if that doesn't work try restarting your computer.

All fixed. It was an image resolution issue.
