Trick didn't know how to take this change of staff. Sure, he and Byfleet had bumped heads ever since that first day of class so many autumns ago, when Trick had goofed off so much he lost his house 100 points. But since then, he had gained a strange kind of respect for the man, and even found himself looking forward to the lessons. Now, with a new professor, the sixth year had no idea what to expect. The short boy entered the empty classroom and took a seat near the back, whistling to himself, a muggle song. He plopped down in the seat and rested his broken wrist, which was encased in a Hufflepuff-gold cast, atop the desk. Hopefully this class would be as good - well, almost as good - as the old one. |

Fumbling to keep her stack of books in her arms, the bundle of energy formerly known as Miss Ruby Harper Ray hurried down the hallway with a spring in the step of her bright red combat boots, the same ones she had worn since her first year at school. They had a new professor for History of Magic, and she was way excited! It was like the first day of school all over again. Skidding to a stop in the doorway, a book flew off the top of the stack and landed - SMACK right on the floor in front of the professor' desk, sliding under it. Setting her books down on a desk in the front row, she fell to her hands and knees, peering under the table. "Oh, bookie book, come out!" she called loudly. You'd think, at 16, she'd have simmered down a bit, but the only thing to have calmed since she was 11 was her hair. |

Moving from potions to History of Magic was not her favorite transition, history was such a boring subject it took all her energy to stay awake. History would be the death of her so long as she was in school, mainly because she felt like taking the draught of living death after the first five minutes of the stupid class. And to make matters worse she had to deal with those blasted hufflepuffs and ravenclaws. Speaking of hufflepuffs that's exaclty who was in the room when she walked in, one was cooing at a book like it would actually do what she said, and the other was sitting at his desk looking hopeful. "Hello again Henderson," Stasi said in a tone that was anything but friendly, as she walked by the short boy and took her seat at the back of the room waiting for class to begin. |

Trick had been busy staring out the window and daydreaming about playing chaser for the Kenmare Kestrels when the loud slam of a book hitting the floor broke his concentration. His gaze shot to spunky Ruby Ray, who was kneeling on the floor by the professor's desk, muttering something about her book. "Good thing you never tried out for seeker, Ruby," he laughed, his eyes drifting to the door. There he saw a girl he had seen more than enough of in potions class. He sighed, perfect and turned his focus to the book on his desk. "Hello yourself," he said without interest, thumbing through his book, although half the words were like Egyptian to him. |

Ella walked into the room with a somewhat bright smile on her face. She had an almost uncharacteristic glow emitting from her, and she briskly strutted her way to the front of the room. Gently placing her books down, she turned over to see Trick, and at once she felt at ease. Ella remembered Trick from her past years, but they had never really gotten a chance to know each other. She tried to catch his attention, but it seemed like the Slytherin sitting off to the back of the room. They didn't seem to be friendly to each other, so Ella instead focused her attention to the front of the room, quickly turning around so that she wouldn't get caught in the already beginning hostility. Looking to the front of the room, she saw a Hufflepuff girl basically bouncing off of the walls-- a bit too happy for Ella. It was better than getting involved with the brewing darkness between Trick and the Slytherin, though, so she took her chances. Hey there. Ella said with a welcoming smile, waiting for the girl who kneeled beside the desk to look at her. |

Potions had went resonably well, so Brooke was feeling pretty confident about entering History of Magic. This was most likely going to be one of her best classes this term. Memorization and notes was Brooke's strong point. She tightened her side ponytail, and adjusted the messenger bag on her shoulder, than pushed the door open to see some familiar faces, including her newest friendly acquantance, Trick Henderson. And a less friendly face, Anastasia. With another deep breath, Brooke walked briskly up the isle and laid her stuff down in the desk behind Trick. "Long time no see, ey?" she joked, a smile already on her face as she sat down. |

Julian came into History of Magic, knowing this class couldn't be worse than the potions class he had just come from. Looking around at all of the students in the class he realized that a good majority were in his potions class as well. He grinned at Ruby, "Off to survive another class." He gave a small wink before sitting down in a seat near the back of the room. He turned to look at Anastasia, "I see nothing got blown up around you." He gave her a playful smile, knowing full well that she probably wanted nothing more than to curse him. He kicked his feet up on the desk in front of him and wondered briefly if he could get a little sleep before the professor came in. |

Andrew sat at his desk and watched each of the students enter the room, this would be the first time he would actually teach a lesson at Hogwarts and the first History of Magic lesson since Professor Byfleet had left so unexpectedly. Drew was grateful that this day had come finally, he would be able to show of his extensive knowledge of wizarding history and highlight some of the highest points in the history of the wizarding world. The first girl to come into the classroom had knocked a book off of the stack of books near Andrew's desk where it slid under his desk near his feet. The girl proceeded to chase after the book and attempt to call at it hoping it would come out from under the desk at her call, like it was the monster book of monsters or something similar to that. Quietly the young professor reached down and picked up the book at his feet placing it on his desk. "Take your seat, miss, so that the lesson may begin," he said sternly, but with as gentle a tone he could muster. Then he turned to the rest of the class and looked at each student individually, assessing them and judging each one as he stared them down. "Welcome to History of Magic," Andrew said standing up from his desk, "I am Professor Zabini, I'm sure some of you were expecting to see Professor Byfleet. Sorry to disappoint, but Professor Byfleet turned in his resignation as of last term. He will be missed as he was a grand teacher, but everyone must move on eventually. Now back to history of magic, I'm sure some of you associate History with dates and events and when things took place. That may have been how you were taught in the past, but History is much more than that. History is the legacy of life, without a past there is no future and without a future there is no present and thus no point to life. If you came here today expecting to memorize a bunch of dates and be tested on that, then you will be sorely disappointed." Andrew looked to the girl in the far back of class who looked dissatisfied with her presence in his class. He looked down at his class list to get her name, O'Ryan. He could see she would be difficult to get through to, all the more reason to pick her out of the crowd. "Now as I said history is a legacy, and each person's family has a legacy, something to be proud of...," he started and came around to the front of his desk and leaned on the front of his desk, "Miss O'Ryan, what is your family's claim to fame? What makes you so special? I am going to ask all of you students this question, it doesn't have to be anything magical or from the wizarding world for those of you who are muggleborn I'm sure there is something your parents or family has done in the past that's worthy of noting. It doesn't have to be good or positive, there are some families out there that are known for their dastardly deeds and infamous behaviour. So Miss O'Ryan again I ask, what makes you and your family so special?" |

Trick glanced up from his book long enough to catch Brooke's eye and smiled. He was finding himself oddly appreciating her presence since the potions lesson, and he instantly relaxed. "I know, right?" he replied with a cheshire grin, leaning back in his seat and propping his heels on the desk like his friend, Julian. "I was thinking of reporting you to the ministry for stalking me, but then I'd have to hire a solicitor and it would just be a real mess . . ." Trick waved his hand as if waving off the idea. "Figured I'd put up with you, in the end." The boy eyed the professor and watched as he began the lesson, not bothering to remove his yellow chuck taylors from the desk. The new teacher seemed to be planning to have each student talk about their families, which was bound to get interesting. Trick hated talking about his family, and he knew it would show. Instead, he decided to entertain himself as best he could. The professor asked Trick's favorite person, Stasi, a question, and he raised his hand coyly. "I believe I could answer that, professor," the Irish boy said, not bothering to wait for the man to call on him. He pressed a finger to his thick lips as if thinking. "What makes Miss O'Ryan here so special, let's see . . . oh, I know. Nothing." Trick looked over to the girl, then back to the professor as if he had a sudden revelation. "Oh wait, wait, I got it. Anastasia has the uncanny ability to be a genuinely stuck-up b - well, witch - to anyone who dares to, uh, look at her. Isn't that right, 'lassie'?" Trick looked to the Slytherin girl with a self-pleased grin. Sure the professor was bound to be upset, but he didn't care. |

At the sound of a girl's voice, the Hufflepuff glanced up and saw Michaela, a Ravenclaw she knew only slightly. "Hey," she replied excitedly, sitting back on her heels, "What's that spell again, the one that yanks something towards you? Acciendo?" No sooner had the words left her mouth than did the lesson begin. Ruby graciously accepted her book from the new professor with a sheepish grin and hurried to find a seat near Michaela. This class sounded interesting enough. Not as much to remember, or any charms to cast. That was always a plus. She was also secretly glad that she could see a bit of herself in the new professor - she had always felt a little out of water surrounded by the other students, save a few. Ruby watched as Trick decided to answer the question, and she blinked her dark eyes rapidly in surprise. He was going to lose them house points like this, and that was the last thing they needed, especially if their quidditch team was anything at all like the last term's. Sighing, she leaned back and fiddled with a strand of her straightened hair, hoping nervously that the new professor wasn't anything like Byfleet. |

Anastasia listened to the professor's speech, still as bored with history as when she walked in to the classroom, though now she was a tad bit more irritated since she'd been called on. Although before she could answer the question, the one and only most irritating mudblood on the planet, Trick spoke up and insulted her family, well it was more of an insult to Stasi personally calling her a bitch and all. Although she was slightly stung at the comment she was more embarrased that Trick had decided to take his contempt for her public. She looked between Trick and the Professor for a moment before smiling sweetly at Trick. "Patrick, dear, you're so modest you should tell the Professor about your family," she said in a sickly sweet voice before turning to look at the professor, "Professor Zabini, did you know Patrick's family is known for their work with the giants? You see they seem to relate very well with each other, and have alot in common. For example, Patrick and his father and mother are all as dumb as bricks, which makes the giants feel better about themselves, at least they know they're not the dumbest race or family in the world. Isn't that such a great thing to be famous for? I know I'm proud of my classmate and his family, I couldn't do what they do." As soon as Anastasia was finished returning the favor of Trick's attempt at an insult, she sat back and began picking at her nails. Since her little friend had decided to answer for Stasi, though it wasn't exactly true, she didn't feel obligated to answer the professor's question anymore, and had no plans to do so. Family was a sensitive subject for Stasi, she didn't really like talking about it, partly because half of her family had been a lie for the first fourteen years of her life and partly because the other half of her family she had no idea existed until two years ago. |

Julian settled down once the class began and listened to the Professor's speech on what made them all special or famous, whichever. He tried to think of his answer quickly before the professor could call on him, however, his thoughts were soon interrupted by Trick bashing on his partner from Potions. Even from the distance across the potions room, Julian could tell that hadn't ended well. It wasn't surprising that Anastasia fired back with an equally rude comment about Trick's family. Even though Trick had started it in this class, Julian still felt the need to defend him. Turning around in his seat to give Anastasia a patronizing smile, his voice began to drip with sarcasm. "My friend Trick here, may be as dumb as a brick I know." He shot Trick a look to let him know that he was only kidding. "But hey at least he has other things going for him, unlike some others in the class." His gaze turned back to Anastasia. "He's a hell of quidditch player, quite good with the ladies. And hey, at least he has some friends. But I guess being a stuck up bitch, its a pretty good accomplishment too. It really is too bad, you can't actually put it to good use." He turned around in his seat waiting for the Professor to start docking points. |

It seemed that the boy with his feet on the desk had a problem with Andrew's first target and had decided to take it upon himself to make up something for the girl to be known for and try to make fun of the girl. Andrew would have to watch that boy, a class clown was not something he would allow to happen in his class he would need to break the boy. But that would have to wait for later, right now he had a squabble to stop before it got escalated beyond anyone's control. There were now three students exchanging insults, it was starting to get out of hand. "Spencer, O'Ryan, Henderson enough," Zabini said loudly and assertively, "Twenty points from Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. I will have order in my class. In addition Miss O'Ryan, and Mr. Henderson will have detention with me next week. You two had better work out your differences then or you will be seeing much more of me than you want to, and trust me I'm not someone you want to cross. Henderson get your shoes off the desk unless you want to be walking on your hands through the halls between classes. Now Mr. Spencer since you've decided to put your two cents in on the discussion perhaps you'd like to answer my question. What makes you special? What is your legacy?" |

Julian couldn't help but smile when the Professor had taken points from all of them. It was so worth it. And beside, Ravenclaw was way ahead on the points factor. He leaned back into his chair waiting for the Professor to finish disciplining Trick and Anastasia. He was lucky to have escaped detention himself. Getting ready to tune the teacher out, he began to lean his head back to stare at the ceiling. However, it seemed he wasn't entirely escaping punishment. He sat forward, his eyes focused on the teacher as he tried to think of what his legacy was. Unfortunately, it seemed all his mind was stuck on being a smart ass. "Oh, I don't know sir. I mean, I'm not a stuck up bitch or in my case would that be 'I'm not a complete ass'?" He flashed a quick smile, "Still, I am Julian Spencer and I think that makes me pretty special." He watched the teacher, knowing he couldn't stay out of trouble this time. Still, his family had never done anything famous. Well, aside from his sister getting pregnant by a student, but he wasn't about to bring that up. |
