The year had definitely gotten more taxing this year, even despite the festivities with the House Championships going on. Of course, it was a bit ridiculous to think her learning would be a bit lighter this year just because of some school games. becoming an Auror was no joke and Roxanne had had her heart set on the position for as long as she could remember. It could probably be the fact that quite a bit of her family were in the field, not to mention her Uncle Harry was head of the entire department. She might be able to get some perks with him in charge. She smirked to herself as her thoughts roamed her mind. Of course she knew she wouldn't get any special treatment, but still, it would be nice. She already had somewhat a glimpse at what it could be like. All of her teachers simply adored her, though it could also be because she kept her grades looking marvelous. Whatever the case the feeling it gave her was grand.

As she walked through her department's floor she switched her messenger bag to her other shoulder. Her books were also a bit heavier this year and carrying them around all the time made her shoulder ache. As she finished readjusting herself she happened to look up and walking towards her, well not directly towards her, was none other than Scarlett Malfoy. She hadn't seen the girl since the beginning of the year when she'd threw up in the middle of the great hall floor. "That's odd", she thought to herself. Normally the Malfoys were all out and about and in your face or what have you but this was the first time she'd realized she hadn't seen Scarlett since that incident. What had it been? Three and a half months? "Jeeze", she thought to herself once again. You'd think she'd spot someone within that kind of time frame when they went to the same school. She spotted the others every once and a while but Scarlett seemed to have disappeared for the past few months.

Roxanne continued on her path towards Scarlett fully intending to ignore the girl when she actually looked at her. Something was different...off. "What is it?", she thought to herself as she furrowed her eyebrows and that's when she figured it out. Or at least...her theory arose. She stopped in her tracks for a moment not wanting the pieces to fall into place. No...no this couldn't be. Roxanne swallowed hard and decided since she was here she might as well get to the bottom of this. Before any kind of drama could erupt fully. She slowly approached Scarlett still with an eyebrow raised and asked, "Hey Scarlett, can we talk?".

Scarlett had been trying her hardest to stay out of the limelight since her episode at the start of term ball back in September. She didn't know then she'd been pregnant and only found out afterwards. She hoped no one suspected anything as the only person she's told thus far was her twin sister Schuyler. She hadn't told Albus yet and had been avoiding him like the plague the most. How on earth would she tell him this? What would he even do at this point? She didn't want to really burden him with this. Not since she'd pretty much severed any kind of relationship she could have had with any of his family the day she lost her temper and tortured Louis Weasley. She'd regretted her actions since then. They'd sent her world into a downward spiral and she didn't think she'd ever be able to pull herself up again. That was....until a few weeks ago.

Her morning sickness was starting to get worse and her belly grew bigger everyday. it was getting harder and harder to hide the fact she was with child and, even now, anyone who looked at her could notice the bulge in her midsection. Scarlett had time to think and reflect on her life. It was inevitable, she was going to become a mother and she was going to have to grow up. She was going to have to provide and nurture another living being and she wanted to make sure she did it right. Up until now she hadn't been sure what she'd study in University but now she'd figured it out. She wanted to be an Auror. She wanted to do something good with her life. She'd been bad for far too long and look where it'd gotten her. Knocked up, shunned, and depressed.

She held a pamphlet with information on the courses she'd need to take to get caught up in the curriculum right under her nose. She wanted to read it thoroughly to make sure she'd be able to take certain classes at certain times and still be able to graduate on time. She was so enthralled she didn't notice the person walking towards her. And when she heard her name she stopped suddenly and jumped. Bewilderment and confusion shown on her face as she realized who the person was. Roxanne Weasley. Why was she asking to speak with her? Did she want to criticize her more? Scarlett had had enough of that and her emotions had been shot for far too long to handle it. "I...I really don't have the time", she said hoarsely. When was the last time she'd spoken to someone? She didn't realize until this point that she'd pretty much only spoken when spoken too...and that hadn't been very often.

Roxanne jumped back slightly as well seeing as she didn't want Scarlett bumping into her. She didn't realize she'd startle the girl as much as she just had but hey what could she do about it. Roxanne's eyebrows furrowed again however. Scarlett Malfoy had no time to talk to her? Seriously? Roxanne wasn't buying that. Besides the girl sounded like death. What was really going on here? "You know I don't think you have the right to blow me or any of my family members off if and or when we try and talk to you Malfoy", she replied a little annoyed. It really wasn't her intention but the whole lot of Malfoy kids got under her skin so easily it was a natural reaction. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Ok look, if you've got time to roam these halls with your nose stuck in a pamphlet you've got time to answer one or two questions from me", she said shifting her weight from one foot to the other. She crossed her arms across her chest and looked Scarlett right in the eyes. "Now I'm going to try this again. Scarlett, might I have a moment of your time?", she asked.

This. This was what Scarlett didn't have time for. The drama. Every time she'd come in contact with any Weasley or Potter it's been nag nag nag. They'd all drained her of everything she was. She'd already apologized to Louis. She just wanted everyone to drop it. While she knew Louis hadn't and was never going to forgive her they'd both settled things between them. Why couldn't his family follow suite? She didn't have the energy to fight back. She didn't want to fight back. What was the point really? Especially now that half a Potter was steadily growing in her belly.

Scarlett just stood there not really wanting to face Roxanne at the moment but decided it was better than causing anymore trouble by completely ignoring her, turning around, and hiding herself in her common room like she'd been doing for the past few months. She also didn't want to talk about Louis. She figured that's what Roxanne was going to talk about. That's ALL any of them every talked about. It had almost been an entire year and they were still bringing it up and throwing it in her face like it'd happened only last week.

Scarlett sighed. All she wanted to do was cry. She could so easily these days with her hormones doing this and that to her. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath obviously giving up quickly to avoid any problems. "Fine....what is it?", she asked and then crossed her own arms across her chest.

Roxanne was never really one to beat around the bush. While she tended to say whatever was on her mind she more times than not thought about what she was saying before it ever left her mouth. Right now she really didn't care how the question came out. How would she even word it to not sound accusatory or anything? There was no way. The only thing she did do was lean a bit closer and lowered her voice before she asked, "Scarlett, are you pregnant?". The look on Scarlett's face was enough of an answer for her. Roxanne heard her try and interject something but she put her hand up to stop her. "Just don't", she started. It might have sounded a bit mean but that was the last thing on Roxanne's mind.

Scarlett was pregnant? When the hell did this even happen? Were her and Albus still sneaking around? Roxanne didn't even know how she felt about all of this, but then she realized something. She was thinking about her self right now when this wasn't even happening to her, it was happening to Scarlett. She bit her lip and looked back at Scarlett. She could tell the girl was loosing sleep, she looked like hell and she even sounded like hell too. She didn't know if any of her family knew and she wouldn't blame her for not telling anyone. Scarlett's family might even be more upset than her own when they found out. Then another thought crossed her mind. Albus. "Does Albus know?", she asked quietly and much more gently this time.

She had the feeling he didn't. He didn't mention it when they'd talked last but then again they weren't the closest family members.

Scarlett was hoping people wouldn't notice, though she was five months pregnant so it was going to get hard for people not to notice. She wasn't expecting Roxanne Weasley to be the first to ask her about it. He eyes widened to their biggest and she opened her mouth to begin denying the question but Roxanne held up her hand to stop her. Scarlett wanted nothing more than to run away and hid but something was keeping her rooted to this spot. Was it fear? Guilt? She didn't know. All she knew was that she didn't want to be here having this conversation. She'd rather be talking about Louis.

Scarlett bit her lip in attempts to stop her from breaking out in tears. She was hoping she could hid this for longer, at least have a little time to transition into bigger clothes and make it seem as if she were changing her style up. But she'd been too late. Once one person realized it was only downwards from there. She wrapped her arms tighter around herself trying to keep herself together. She then heard Roxanne speak in a voice she'd never heard directed at her before. Scarlett looked up to Roxanne with a somewhat confused expression on her face. Not at the question asked, but the tone. Why was she being nice to her? Shouldn't she be scolding her and accusing her of something outrageous?

Instead of voicing her curiosity she somehow managed to answer Roxanne's question. "N..no...he doesn't", she started. Then without any warning she reached out and grabbed Roxanne's hands. "But please....please I'm begging you don't tell him", she started letting the tears she'd been holding back flow from her eyes. "I don't want to burden him with this...this...this isn't his problem. I've caused enough trouble...please", she finished looking into Roxanne's eyes.

Roxanne was taken aback by Scarlett's sudden outburst. She didn't like the girl but she could help her heart hurting at the sight of the state she was in. She was young, well younger than her at least, and she was about to have a baby. And not just any baby. It'd be a baby born of Malfoy and Potter blood. Their families had hated each other for generations and now they'd finally be joined by blood. By this child. Roxanne swallowed hard. She knew Scarlett would need some kind of help or support. If she were in this situation she'd want some. She wouldn't want to be put under anymore stress than she needed. It would be good for the baby. "The baby", Roxanne thought to herself.

She loosened Scarlett's grip on her but still kept hold of her hands. "I'm not going to tell him Scarlett", she started. "But what I will do is help you", she finished giving Scarlett a very concerned look. "Look I know our families have had their differences but this....this is different. You actually carrying...family in there", she said stopping and realizing the depth of it all. "Family...", she repeated in a whisper. "This is insane", she thought to herself. "Stop crying ok", she started again. "I'm waving the white flag here, for the baby, I don't want it being born into a feud having to choose between two sides. It shouldn't be that way. Not for any kid", she said giving as much of a smile she could muster.

Ancient Runes had been particularly difficult, something that was a vast understatement on most days. Perhaps it was the various Celtic symbols he had to decipher in only two minutes, or the Latin abbreviations he never quite understood, but Albus had accumulated a vast and very pounding headache. Coming from his department floor, he had almost tried a fruitless Apparition only to remember, at the last second, that the school had anti-wards up. He would have given anything to have been able to conveniently move from the school to his apartment while never walking more than two steps. Albus sighed in defeat before throwing his bag over his shoulder and taking the stairs. He had always hated the fact that the Department of International Magical Cooperation was located on the fifth floor, but now, he felt the greatest ire as he went down the stairs, his aching headache seemingly increasing with each step. Not only that, but his mind was still on what had happened between him, his brother, and everyone else in his family. Albus knew he had messed up. There was no doubt about it, the months of keeping to himself had given him time to realize just how much so. His own brother wasn't speaking to him anymore, his Uncle Ron had actually threatened disownment (whether he was kidding or not was still a mystery) and he couldn't even look his Uncle Bill in the eyes anymore. Christmas had been an odd affair, opting to turn down his mother's invitation for the comfort of his own apartment. Though he wasn't fooling anyone, he had declined going home for the simple fact that he knew James would be there.

Albus wasn't sure what his father thought about everything. Though when he spoke to him a few days after New Years he seemed cheery enough, and that was enough for him. Then there was Scarlett, who he hadn't seen nor heard from in months. The last time he had seen her was during the welcome back ball, and even then he was left confused. Albus wasn't sure what was more suspicious about her, the attitude she had adopted, or the fact that she had threw up in on the middle of the floor. Regardless, as much as he tried to find out what was going on it seemed futile. Scarlett had somehow disappeared off the face of the Earth. He hadn't seen her around school, the common room, or the grounds. Everyone he asked said the same thing, they hadn't seen her. To him, it seemed very unlike her to disappear into the shadows. Scarlett was a outgoing person, she seemed to enjoy the limelight, so for her to hide away was worrying enough. But Albus tried not to put too much thought behind it. She had her family, surely she'd go to them with whatever problems she had.

Albus nodded to himself, glad that that particular problem was taken care of in his mind. Out of sight out of mind he reminded himself, plus she'd be better off with their new found space. By now Albus had only reached the third floor and he was already out of breath slightly. The bag around his shoulders felt as if it had gained 12 pounds in a matter of seconds, and his robes felt as if they were made of bricks. Albus rubbed his temples as he took another flight down, now reaching the second floor, and he paused suddenly. From a distance he could hear people talking but he couldn't quite disciplined who they were or what they were saying. Albus debated or whether or not he should wait until the people were gone before walking the rest of the way. His last name still brought stares and awestruck looks by those who worshiped his dad, and the last thing he needed was people asking if his father really did kill a basilisk in his second year. But as Albus hesitantly moved forward the voices became more pronounced and he heard the familiar voice of his cousin Roxy. But it was the other person speaking that made Albus stop abruptly.

"Scarlett, Roxy?" He asked in surprise before taking another step closer. Indeed he was correct. Standing there was none other than Scarlett and his cousin, but what was even more bizarre was the fact that they seemed almost...civil with each other. "What are you two doing here?..." Albus would have continued if he hadn't lowered his eyes to the rest of Scarlett's body. Instantly he knew something was off about her. At first his eyes refused to acknowledge the glaring difference about her, but soon he couldn't deny it any longer and he stared keenly at her stomach. Her midsection was bigger, though he knew it wasn't from overeating. No, he was just too intelligent at times where he couldn't play oblivious. Though he didn't dare speak his question out loud. Something akin to knowing, and even fear seemed to seep within him until his headache seemed to disappear. "What are you up to?" He asked the both of them, his eyes purposely turning from Scarlett to Roxy.

Scarlett felt a wave of relief rush over her hearing Roxanne would keep her secret. This however brought on another wave of tears. She knew she didn't deserve this favor from her, or anyone in their family for that matter, so the gesture was more than she could ask for. Scarlett continued letting the tears run from her eyes and she couldn't help the increase in sniffling as she continued to cry. So many emotions were rushing over her she didn't know where or how to even sort them out. She then heard Roxanne ask her to stop crying and she figured she might as well at this point. It was hard. Not only was she crying because of her situation and the fact Roxanne seemed to be on her side, or rather, the baby's side...she just felt the need to cry. Once she started it all came crashing down on her and it actually felt good to feel this kind of release. She'd been held up mostly to herself trying to keep things together without giving herself away, and now finally she was freeing every worry and though along with new found joy.

Despite all of this Roxanne was right. Even though they were alone in the hallway, if anyone were to round the corner suddenly this sight might be a rather curious one. Scarlett definitely didn't want anymore attention on her so she tried her hardest despite what her emotions were telling her to stifle her crying. Though before she could even say thank you she heard a familiar voice from behind her calling her name. Scarlett's eyes shot wide open not daring to move them from Roxanne's face. She'd done her best to avoid Albus Potter for a good four months. Why now did fate pick the time to have him roaming the halls when she stood here tear stained and pleading to his cousin Roxanne?

Her eyesight couldn't stay averted from his for long as he moved closer to the pair of them. She dropped her hands to her side and finally looked at him. Scarlett instantly felt as if her heart had gained one hundred pounds. Memories and feelings began running through her head as she took in Albus for the first time in months. Why had she been so stupid? Why had she thrown everything away? Scarlett felt the desperate urge to run but she caught sight of Albus' line of sight. He noticed. Scarlett felt her heart thudding in her chest threatening to break through her rib cage. "I...we...ah", she only just managed to stumble out before she could feel her body beginning to shake slightly.

Hearing her name, Roxanne looked up only to see her cousin Albus approaching her and Scarlett. "Fuck", she said softly to herself and bit her bottom lip as he began walking towards the pair of them. She glanced back over to Scarlett who looked as if she'd just been petrified. Roxanne honestly wouldn't wish this situation on anyone and lord only knew how Albus was going to react when he found out. Whatever the scenario Roxanne definitely wouldn't let Albus weasel out of his responsibilities. This was his problem just as much as it was Scarlett's because everyone knew it takes two people to make a baby despite it being intentional or not.

She felt Scarlett's hands drop as Albus made his way next to them. She watched him for a moment noticing him taking in Scarlett. There was no way in hell he wouldn't put things together. Not with her stomach protruding like it's doing. When he asked them both what they were up to she heard Scarlett begin to stammer out something unintelligible. "Oh goodness", she thought to herself and then stepped in. "We were just discussing Scarlett's future", she started. She looked down at Scarlett's hands and grabbed the now crumpled up pamphlet on Magical Law Enforcement. "She's thinking about being an Auror so I was giving her pointers, what brings you here", she added.

Albus lowered his bag to the floor, though he used the single moment in order to gain his bearings back. His mind was still rearing from Scarlett's appearance, and it was as if his eyes refused to acknowledge her abdomen. Lowering himself to drop his bag on the floor allowed him a second of time where he could let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding. Then there was Roxy, who was surely hiding more than she let on. He knew his cousin, even if they weren't the closet of relatives, and he knew that she wouldn't be caught dead with Scarlett even on her worse of days. At least not chatting it up in the Uni hallways. So Albus was more than suspicious to say the least. He listened to Roxy's excuse and tried not to smirk at how ridiculous it sounded. Though Albus pretended to take the bait as he stuffed his hands inside his pockets, his eyes still keenly avoiding Scarlett as if she'd burn him to ash if he even dared glance at her again. "Just got out of Ancient Runes." Albus replied. "I was about to leave for my apartment..." He trailed off smartly, remembering what exactly took place at said apartment mere months ago. Albus moved his head slightly in Scarlett's direction though he didn't look at her directly. "I never knew you wanted to become an Auror." He admitted though he doubted it was true. Scarlett never seemed like the 'law defending' type, and well, with what had happened during the last war he doubted even his father's influence could help her get into the Law Department. But once again he decided to take the obvious bait thrown at him, for now. Though the sight of Scarlett's stomach hadn't exactly faded from his thoughts either.

Albus feared that he knew the real problem. All the dots were so clear and obvious he could have connected them blindfolded. Yet some part of him refuse to ask the true question, the question he had burning at the forefront of his mind. It would answer why she'd been almost like a ghost recently, and why her stomach had grown much bigger since the last time he'd seen her. Who the bloody hell was he kidding? There was no way he'd be able to completely ignore what was so obvious. Running a hand threw his already unruly hair Albus took a deep breath before looking Scarlett directly in the eyes for the first time in months. He thought back to August, the night after his birthday party, what they had done together. Even after a few drinks Albus had known what he was doing. The act had been mutual, so what gave him the right to ignore it? It was times like this when he wished James was still speaking to him.

Reaching out slightly, Albus cautiously placed a hand on Scarlett's shoulder before bringing it down to her stomach. When he felt the hard swell of her abdomen Albus let out a heavy breath, but he didn't remove his hands. He couldn't believe it but there was no doubt about it in his mind anymore. Albus remembered feeling his mother's stomach when she was pregnant with Lily, years ago, so he instantly knew what was wrong with Scarlett. "You're pregnant." Albus said at last, his eyes trailed between her eyes and her stomach. Though he frowned deeply at the thought of what he'd done. Albus had ruined her life now, in a way, things would be harder for her now, and yet she was only a eighth year...in the same year as Lily. Albus looked back at Roxy still wearing the same frown. "How long have you known?"
