Hey Asia,

I just woke up from a nightmare about Reid. It hasn't happened in so long that I can't be sure whether he was actually manipulating my dream or not. It probably wasn't him. Us going to the cemetery probably sparked it. I mean, my dad's death naturally had me thinking about everything that's happened over the past five years. That was probably it, right? I'd like to still think he's far, far away even though I still feel like he's here watching our every move. The house has enough protection over it that he couldn't just barge in, but I can't shake the feeling that he's around. Like really, who placed those flowers at Dad's grave?

Oh yeah, Merry Christmas! I wish I was with you again like last year. Well, you know what I mean. It's weird being back in Rutland. It's been deemed "safe" but it's not the home I remember. It's just different - colder, quieter. Paul has been working a lot so it's mostly been just Paige (who's also missing her older sister), Mum and me. You should probably invite us over as soon as you get this owl. I hope you're doing okay. I know it's hard. Christmas is supposed to be this time where families come together and celebrate and here we are, stranded with shattered families and nothing to celebrate.

I'm being pessimistic. Did I say Merry Christmas already? By the way, I do have a Christmas/Thank You gift with your name on it. I don't think I ever truly shared with you or Marcela how gracious my family is for allowing Paige and me to stay with you guys this past summer. It was a rough summer for both of us, and I don't think I could have gotten though it without you. I also don't think I could have gotten though the past couple of months without you and Charlotte putting up with my incessant moping. So really - from my gushy, overly sentimental heart - I appreciate everything you've done for me. When you invite me over to your house once you get this When we see each other sometime over break, I'll happily give you my gift and you can give me mine, because of course, I know you got me something just as special too. Even though I was a bit melancholic, I think I dropped enough hints the other day for you to know what I want. I did forget to mention, however, that Felix Felicis, while rare, would certainly help a person if they were to face Acromantulas or Grindylows. Just a friendly fact from your highly deserving best friend.

Christmas is the season of giving (and when I say giving, I don't mean giving some Head Girl speech on cheating), after all. I said Merry Christmas, right? Well since this letter is becoming rather long, I'll save you from reading anymore and save the rest for when I see you later today when I get invited later. Writing has been a good distraction from my nightmare at least...well, it was.

Going to try to go to sleep again.

Heya Stranger,

Long time no see…at least it feels like it’s been ages when it really hasn’t been that long. I don’t know, I guess I REALLY kind of miss you hanging around the house entertaining me. It’s empty with you gone, it’s just me and my mom but she’s always working and well things are uneventful to say the least. Which I'm not complaining about, last year this time we were oh fighting our siblings and I got kidnapped....again haha this year I learned to keep my behind at home. Still and again though, I miss you like craaazy.

It wasn’t any trouble at all going with you to see your dad; you were nice enough to go with me to see mine. Even if I haven’t worked up enough courage yet to actually see that through. You mean a lot to me and so I naturally want to see you content and stress free. You know how I love to worry about that. Granted though no matter how far you are you know I'm here for you to write to, even if you haven't gotten any sleep! I'm starting to think you worrying me is some kind of a sport for you haha. Maybe I should have rethought the gift that I got you and got you something for a nice sleep.

I wish I could have gone with you though, been there when you got back to the house and helped you try to settle back into your new life without you know who. Things are bound to still be strange after all that happened between the two of you and you find yourself a bit more worried now that your there, where you once were with him. I don’t want you to worry yourself, like you said the house is protected and well he’d be a fool to try anything there. I’d be there in a heartbeat to kick some wizard tush! Wow did I just say tush? Yeah I need you back here to keep me updated on life outside of my book collection. He can’t touch you, you are safe and you are loved and well yeah…tush!

I hope you know that you and your sister are welcomed to come back at any time you need or just want to visit. Really, this place is huge and did I get to the part where I tell you how much I miss you? Cause…I kinda…maybe sorta do miss you ^_^ who else am I supposed to take out on a shopping spree and gossip with? And yes MERRY CHRISTMAS! I have a big gift for you and one for you sister that should be arriving right along with this owl, I hope you like it…though you did drop enough hints silly boy < 3

Asia,

That's the thing about little people: they're about as easily kidnapped as they are able to escape. So fast and sneaky, my little warrior woman, you. Well, as wearing as this morning is becoming (for I fear it'll get far worse as my mum recalls practically every Christmas we've had with Reid), I do appreciate how otherwise uneventful it is. That's saying a lot considering last year was spent in a muggle hospital believing you were dead.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! JOY TO THE WORLD!

By the way, it's not that much of an adjustment. Reid hasn't had a Christmas stocking to open since I was 12. Just this week my parents even removed all his stuff from the room we've shared growing up. I don't have to lay in bed and look across to see Reid's bed anymore, which is surprisingly the best Christmas gift I've ever gotten. Not that your gift isn't amazing! Between you me (and my yet-to-be-named new owl), I pretty much jumped up and down like a little girl when I saw the bottle. How did you get it anyway?

You also don't need to be such a worry wart. Did I just say worry wart? Well kick me in the tush! But really, I'm fine. I feel like luck is on my side next year. (as a matter of fact, it's already packed and ready to go in my trunk). But really-really, thank you. The potion will quite literally be a lifesaver.

Oh, I didn't tell you the other day (because it's kind of embarrassing), but I may have been drinking at the Yule Ball and may have almost gotten myself into some stupid fight. I also may have snogged Sterling Quinn -- you know, that 5th year Slytherin, quieter, blond...hot in that adorable, kiss-him-all-over sense? If I didn't already make a full idiot of myself, I think I might just ask him out. Surprising, I know. Which reminds me - I haven't seen much of Trey lately. I genuinely hope I didn't scare him away?

Paige is sending you her gift later (spoiler alert: it's a mini-cake shaped into a Christmas tree). It tastes better than it looks. If there's a bite in your cake, it was most definitely the owl.

Can I come over tomorrow to give you your gift? It's not that I don't trust the bird (trying not to judge it's reliability by its mangled looks), but I ought to give it to you in person. Your house?

The poor thing. My mum got the owl from a neighbour (crazy mean old hag, never liked her much) who just recently passed away. It was in too small of a cage and sadly looked like this when she found it. Nervous wreck, pulling it's feathers out and everything. It already seems happier though. Baby talk it and it won't snip at you.

Proud parent,
Penn

P.S. I got back to sleep without any more dreams of Reid. I guess it was just a nightmare after all.

P.P.S. Is your mum home today? If it's just you I can sneak over later tonight and give you some company? Wow, I truly sounded like an excellent fake boyfriend there. Just let me know too if I can dick your halls with balls of holly this Christmas! Insanely clever, I know. ;)
