{And when she's walkin'}
{She's lookin' so fine}
{And when she's talkin'}
{She'll say that she's mine}

Ainsley was in a terribly good mood. Some of her younger students were finally getting the hang of potions, adding the right ingredients and (finally) paying to the instructions she gave them on how to cut certain potion ingredients and how to tell if you'd left a potion over the fire too long. A few of them actually came out with decent potions nowadays. This was much more than she'd expected and she congratulated most of her classes for all of their hard work by extending the due date on their essays on the uses of a bezoar. She held a stack of papers rather high in her arms, chatting with a student as she walked down the Entrance Hall steps. The girl was rather distraught over one of her papers and broke Ainsley down to saying they'd discuss it later over tea. She just couldn't say no to that little 3rd years face as her hazel eyes were filled to the brim with tears.

Just as she hit the last step, a sixth year Slytherin student bumped into her and sent the stack of papers flying haphazardly into the air. "MALLOY! 10 points from Slytherin house. Honestly, if you paid as much attention to your surroundings as you do your potions work you wouldn't be costing your house points. Go on with you." she shoo'd him away when he was trying to back up and apologize so she'd give him his house points back. "No Malloy. Should've thought of that before you knocked your years essays out of my hands. Go on, clear off please." She shook her head. She was being a lot nicer than she could have been--Malloy was just lucky that he'd caught her on a good day. The Slytherin student nodded his head and lumbered off, "Probably late to go beat up a first year somewhere. she thought as she shook her head. She shouldn't be thinking such things about her students.

The onlookers had cleared off and the Hall was nearly empty now, devoid of the students that were usually helpful. She bent down in her blue dress that tastefully accentuated her figure, folding her robe that had been covering it over the railing of the stairs as she started picking up the papers that had flown all over the place. Sure, she could pick them all up with her wand--but that wouldn't give her the satisfaction of 'lightly' and 'accidently' stomping on Malloy's paper. She was a level headed woman--but carelessness, ass-kissery, and stupidity were two things she couldn't stand, and Malloy had just displayed both within a span of two seconds.

Reid Larsen in Disguise

The past few months' leads had resulted in disappointment. His father's childrens book hinting that vampires could turn back into humans. A potion being stored in the Department of Mysteries. A whisper of Valkyrie possessing the cure here at Hogwarts. All of these pieces of the puzzle had lead to dead ends, but Reid knew that somehow something would come out of all this searching. It had to. Sure he had all eternity to discover a cure, but that didn't mean he wanted to waste all his damn time (times infinity) doing that. He had a life to live - a human one - and he demanded to have what was stolen from him.

Clearly he was more determined than ever to find a cure for vampirism, but things had to change in order for him to have any chance whatsoever at making any progress. Last semester he did everything to stay under the radar; he'd played it safe, which in hindsight had been really stupid. That had never gone over well; it was always play hard or go home with Reid. In order to get what he wanted this go-around, he'd have to take more risks, which in this case would require seeking others for help. He had valuable resources all around him that he hadn't taken advantage of, people who maybe knew something that he didn't. He'd made a list of them over the holiday, and spying one of them down the corridor, Reid wasted no time strutting over to her.

Ainsley. Potions master. Wicked body. Probably good in bed. She was bound to have all the potion ingredients Reid could possibly need, but seeing her bent down in that blue dress of hers made Reid direct his attention to her other assets. With a wave of his wand, all the remaining papers flew into a neat stack in Reid's hands. "You must like to bend over if you're gonna bother with all those papers. Sorry if I ruined your fun." Reid smirked and handed the papers to her, purposely keeping his eyes locked on hers so they didn't drop to her cleavage. As tempting as it was, Reid didn't know Ainsley that well. Yeah she'd been his teacher for the past several years, but all he could think about were his fantasies of her asking him for a late-night detention. It was best to play it safe for now - treat her with respect or whatever.

Ainsley heard someone approaching from somewhere in the hall, but figuring that it was a student who would scurry off in a moment anyway--she continued picking up papers. She was quite surprised when she saw the rest of the papers flew behind her, supposedly caught by the individual she had previously been ignoring a little. Standing up straight with her papers in hand, Ainsley turned around as she smoothed down her dress slowly. "Oh--Mason, hello there. Bending over isn't exactly an irregular thing... I mean--" shit "I don't particularly enjoy it, but I didn't want to be lazy and just do it with a spell. If I were going somewhere in a hurry I might have, but no one was here and--" she was rambling. "Nevermind." She said laughing as she shook her brassy head. "Seems I'm making quite the fool of myself today. Oh well, at least the students aren't here, aye?" She said with a grin, seeming rather relaxed for being alone in a room with a guy she hardly knew... even if he was a professor.

"Saved me a bit of work though, so thank you for that." She said with a gleaming smile as she held her hand out for the papers he had. These interactions never lasted long in the past--so she didn't expect him to stick around for too much longer. He always seemed to be flitting about from place to place like he couldn't sit still--but that could just be her imagination. At any rate, what would he want with a bookish potions mistress? It wasn't as if she could help him with anything, and she wasn't gorgeous enough to prey on. "What brings you down here?" she asked with her usual easy-going smile, brushing her fingertips through her long reddy hair. She seemed a little nervy sometimes when she was talking to people around her own age--simply because she was a little out of practice. She was around students all day and hardly had opportunities to speak to most of the other adults considering she was stuck down in the dungeons.

Reid was used to girls flustering, stuttering, awing and giggling around him, but this was something new. This wasn't just some chick. This was a professor - older, wiser, hotter. Reid knew he was all that, but knowing that Ainsley obviously had the hots for him was just a reaffirmation. A smug expression marked his face as he remained silent, only smiling slightly as she gave up with a nevermind. "Nope, looks like we're alone." Reid peered to either side of the empty hall, regretting that such an opportunity couldn't be taken full advantage of.

Well, maybe it could. Reid handed the papers off with a smile and eyes intent on hers. But just for a second. Just long enough for her to catch it, to make her heart pound just a little bit faster, that was all that was needed to create a curiosity, an interest. "No problem," Reid replied nonchalantly as he watched her put a hand through her hair. Why did he always find himself talking it up with gingers? Oh yeah, because they were fucking hot. "Can't spend all my time in the tower. Lots a stars, but gets lonely from time to time," Reid returned her easy-going smile with one of his own. "Actually, to tell ya the truth, I'm gettin' pretty restless up there. Doubt you've had this problem before, seeing as you're one of the best professors we've got here, but uh - I'm feelin' uninspired. Don't know if it's a general thing or just teachin'. Just feel like there's a lack of passion, ya know?"

Potions Professor

It was in that moment that Ainsley realized that she was alone--with a guy her age, and he was a vampire. This probably should have bothered her more, but keeping the fact that she brewed wolfsbane potions regularly to make sure the wolf population was okay during a full moon in mind... it seemed that something as silly as being a different 'breed' of being didn't ever really bother her. It wasn't their fault they were like that, why hold it against them? She was actually trying to invent a potion to help vampires curb their appetite as well... though she had told no one. She wasn't quite sure if telling people would be the best thing. Telling people what she was doing would entail having to obtain permission for ingredients as well as having deadlines made--which were never good working conditions for her.

Ainsley met his eyes and wondered what in the world was going through his head at the moment. He seemed to have a strange look in his eye for some reason. Her heart didn't pound faster, but her eyes narrowed slightly before he looked away. "I know what you mean. But at least you have the stars to keep you company--it seems like all I do is sit down in the dank dungeon all day, with my potions ingredients and papers to grade. Such is our lot in life I guess." She wondered why he was still talking to her. A lot of people just wandered off at this point--before she started discussing intellectual things, which she did not often have the occasion to do.

She tipped her head to the side slightly as he told her she was one of the best professors here, her cheeks tinging a bit red. "It's an... occupational hazard I think. Sometimes we feel like we aren't getting through to anyone, or sometimes we just feel like we don't even want to do what we love to do anymore. I guess you should try to find something else to occupy your time when you aren't in class or grading things--maybe study something else. When I was going through a boring patch last semester I took up learning new charms. The time before that, I began studying to become an animagus. Learning new things makes you appreciate the things you already know. Does that make sense?"

Reid smiled as he insisted half-playfully, half-seriously, "But dungeons are fun." Reid couldn't help it. His best years had been spent down in the Slytherin Common Room, the most private and elite area of the dungeons. And even though his worst years had been in the actual cells of Azkaban, that didn't mean all dungeons were terrible. He knew countless girls who'd love to find themselves in a sex dungeon, for example.

From what he could tell, all Ainsley needed were a pair of pink furry handcuffs and she'd be thrilled to find herself back in the dungeons in Reid's company. This was too easy. Reid was confident he already had her in the palm of his hand. It wasn't that Ainsley was stupid and thus susceptible; Reid just knew exactly what to say to get the reaction he wanted. Compliment her? She thinks he's charming. Set her up so that she thinks finding a "hobby" is her idea and not his? She thinks she's being a good little helper. "Yeah, think you're right." Act like you give a shit about her? "So how'd the animagus thing work out for ya?" Get a professor to sleep with you.

Ainsley quirked a brow as he emphasized the word 'fun' for dungeons. How in the world can dungeons be f---oh. Ainsley thought before her thoughts got cut off by a few images. She shook her rusty head and tried to keep a blush from crawling up her cheeks to the tips of her ears. Sure, she knew about dungeons being used for things like that--but certainly not by her, or her students as far as she knew. She'd never heard anything like that going on anyway. She ran her fingers through her hair, in what she hoped to be a casual manner. "I'm not quite sure about that, Mason. They can be downright opressive at times... but I don't mind most of the time." She had decided to go on pretending that she didn't get the meaning of what he was saying, even though it was a little less than clear.

Just because he thought he had her in the palm of his hand, didn't mean she was. Ainsley wasn't one to jump in bed with anyone--unless she was intoxicated, of course. She was a hard one to get through otherwise. She moved on to the second part of what he said to her, checking out of all the images that were brought to her by the previous statement. She couldn't think about it anymore--it was a little too embarrassing and it made her more than a smidge uncomfortable. While she wasn't prudish in the least, she wasn't quite comfortable even suggesting things like that with a fellow professor whom she hardly knew. "I'm still working on it. I'm good at transfiguring anything but myself, and I'm quite afraid to try it completely on myself just in case it goes wrong and I'm stuck a tabby forever."
