These guys were designed for a Mutants and Masterminds RP, hence the mad scientist! The Scientist Doctor P V Olav was included in a contest for desiging the next generation of Super Soldier. His theory was using the free material of feral animals and shifting them to warriors which could infiltrate enemy bases then shapeshift into warriors for assasination missions. Unfortunately, his first experiment, Silver, wasn't that spectacular. When his rival Dr Wolfgang Petal replaced him with an automaton for a presentation he got fired from the project for insulting the commanders wife with a comment involving a duck and a blamange. Out of the military, he kept on with his project for more shady partners. He created several canines, but then spilt some of the serum out the window. A passing cross-fox who'd just outrun a hunt lapped it up. The next thing that he knew was that he was in a cell being shouted at about "public nudity" by Dr Olav. He escaped, discovering his shapeshifting powers as he did so. The scientis put two and two together after his security team reported back. He sent out the canine soldiers to capture Rey, but the entire lot got captured by Section 2, a black-ops unit. To rescue them, the scientist tested a second batch of material on a Wolf, which he named Isengrim after the old Fable. Isengrim didn't really like being made intelligent so he took the scientists hand off whilst fighting to escape. He was tranquilised and had machinery put in his mind, forcing him to be obedient, up to a point. Isengrim broke the team out of jail, but instead of killing Rey he let him off on a technicality and the pair became good freinds. Annoyed, The Dr made one last try, to set a theif to catch a theif. The result was Shadow, a being with none of Rey's morality. The emnity between the two continues.... Rey Canis Species: Red Fox (Cross-Fox varient) Height: Anthro form 5'3" Fox form is fox sized! Now you see, that's interesting. Reynard and Isengrim are borrowed from a European Fable, the details of which are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reynard Reynard, in the European context, is pretty much THE Fox, craft, cunning and artful. The French word for fox was actually changed to Renard following the fables first appearance. The North American Mythology, as far as I know it (i.e. not too far, based on Michaell Bergey's Book New Coyote primarily) had Fox as a trickster charachter and a cousin to Coyote the Trickster God (and the basis for Kerl's heritage and some of his modus operandii). Fox's main talent was to act as a little bit of a guiding influence for coyote, to stop him doing anything too over-the top and had the power to heal him when injured. Did you have any particular tale in mind? I'm always interested in collecting stoories :-) And finally, after i'd done the development for Kerl with the Coyote trickster heritage and Rey with his european heritage, I came across this webcomic: http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1 which bought the two stories together http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=490 into one of my favourite things on the web! All the best! |

An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times." He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way. But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing. Sometimes, it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit." The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?" The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed." The fact that each character of yours had a diffrent moral reminded me of this. |

I Hadn't heard that story before. It's fascinating, thank-you for sharing I always enjoy gathering stories, whether fable, historical or just slice of life ![]() I also enjoy writing charachters who vary, both from my point of view and from each others. Keeps it fun and provides a challenge to think outside the box :-) |
