Paul Venkman Olav was born the son of mixed species parents, specifically, a human woman and a male anthro red fox. Due to a ‘technical issue’ he was created from donor stock so is 100% human. At an early age, he noticed that strain was put upon the relationship by the differences of the species involved and their habbits. He was also intrigued by the feral species in the world who looked remarkably like his father. Growing up, this curiosity lead to a study of biology as well as a hardening of his personality due to teasing from both of the less enlightened sides of the species divide. The final outcome was his decision to make a study of the links between humanity, anthros’ and ferals which was the subject of his Doctorate. Whilst successful, it also caused controversy and forced him to retire from the world slightly as no-one wanted to take such a controversial scientist. With funding running out, he, cynically, realized his best chance of funding came from the military who were quietly sending requests for new soldiers. Presenting a package of research that would allow an individual to combine the best traits of all three forms of life, Dr Olav was accepted into the running. His first experiment was Silver. He procured her, a domesticated Silver fox, from a pet centre and successfully gave her the ability to shift forms between all three. Unfortunately for Paul, her domesticated nature meant that she was quite shy and retiring and a complete failure from a military perspective. However, she proved to be a quick learner and rapidly became his lab assistant as well as a close friend. Despite coming to care for him, Olavs past and parentage meant he strenuously avoided any idea of a romantic relationship with his assistant. Silvers, whilst a failure in the military side showed that Olavs research had potential and worried his opponents, particularly a Dr Wolfgang Adolphus Rat-Fink Von Petal who was working on cybernetics at the time. Therefore, Rat-Fink hatched a plan to discredit Olav. Distracting Olav and Silver with a false challenge, he substituted two early prototypes of his machines disguised as them at a staff meeting where they promptly insulted the staff, failed any tests and generally discredited Olav completely, alienating any backers his project had. Finding out his funding had been cut and he was out of the race, Olav took all the equipment that wasn’t nailed down and left the facility, going underground in a small lab in New England. There he used his remaining formula to create his own military team, figuring if he couldn’t run in the competition he could prove his theory elsewhere. Anyway, the concept hadn’t been pure military as he reasoned that a pure bloodhounds sensitive nose, coupled with the ability to talk, would make for the perfect anti-terrorism aide. To form a rounded team, though, he picked up a collection of dogs that had had formerly hard lives (to overcome the tameness that stymied Silver) and trained them up into a group. ((The formal details of the team will be posted later, for now, most of the character development has been ‘on the fly’ in Beware of the Wolf)) There first little task was to expose Petal for the sabotouer that he was, which worked beautifully. However, Olavs nature had grated on some of the competitions judges and they refused to let him return, citing concern his work would insult animal rights activists if made public, over his protestations that was his reasoning in selecting rescue animals whose lives were poor anyway. Having split from his parents when he joined the military Olav took his sense of resentment with the world and went underground, using his superbly loyal (if, sometimes morally awkward) team to strike back at the world which had rejected him. This brings us to the present where the autohorities, at once appalled by his attrition on their resources and jealous of the bio-tech that the team represents, has sent a group of mercenaries to retrieve his research without having to acknowledge him. Some regret this decision, as he’d made a point of hitting targets that were then revealed to be corrupt…. The other event that changed his life was the inadvertent discovery of his lab by a feral tod fox who later became Rey Canis… whose exploits are detailed in biography The Fox, his Shadow and the Wolf but will be expanded upon here at some point. Edit: Physical Notes: Species: Human Height: 5'10 Build: Skinny Appearance: Brown Eyes Rust-Red Hair (To his fathers delight!) Cybernetic hand built to a design stolen from Dr Petal after the original was removed by an irate wild wolf (A.K.A Isen. See The Fox, His Shadow and The Wolf). Usually wearing a lab jacket and dark trousers. Edited by Kerl, Nov 6 2011, 09:14 AM.
