So guys, I was wondering whether we should have official regional holidays, and, if so, whether official regional functions that happen to fall on them should be postponed until after they're done (e.g. elections, sessions of Parliament). The most obvious candidate would be the region's birthday on November 1. Other possible ideas include a Christmas break (December 24 to January 1?), an Easter long weekend (Good Friday to Easter Monday), and a summer vacation (a certain length of time within the period of June-August?). Thoughts? Edited by Shemiki, Dec 12 2017, 03:40 AM.

Christmas and Easter break sound good, but how long would the Summer break be? I feel like even a month long would be too long. |

I was thinking no more than a week or two for summer vacation. Just giving people some time to take a break when the weather's nice.

I mean...then I shouldn't get any summer break. I just did that so I can claim to be the first person to have an emoji on the forums. No other reason, just wanted it. |

So here's my draft bill: "P.B. 1-0002: The Holiday Act An Act to designate regional holidays 1. Regional Holidays The following dates shall be considered official holidays in the Natan Region. All times are in Eastern Time (ET). a) Christmas Break: begins 12:00 AM (00:00) on Christmas Eve (December 24) and ends 11:59 PM (23:59) on New Year's Day (January 1) (total period of nine days). b) Easter Break: Begins 12:00 AM (00:00) on Good Friday and ends 11:59 PM (23:59) on Easter Monday (total period of four days). c) Regional Birthday: November 1. 2. Effects Under the terms of this Act, Parliament shall enter into an automatic recess for the duration of each holiday specified by this act. 3. Summer Holidays Parliament also reserves the right to recess for a period of no fewer than seven days and no more than fourteen days within the period of June 1 - August 31 each year. The exact dates on which this holiday will fall are to be arrived at through consensus among the members of the Parliament." Edited by Shemiki, Feb 5 2018, 02:29 AM.

I don't really have anything to add, so I'm fine with the bill as it is. |

My one final thought is perhaps a provision could be made for the summer holidays where the Parliament can divide up its days off, e.g. if it turns out that Slarv, Skartok and Kiwis are all going away for holidays the first week of July and Shemiki, RU and Wus are going away the first week of August, instead of having to pick one of those weeks to adjourn Parliament for our fourteen-day holiday we could adjourn for seven days at the start of July, reconvene when everyone's back, and adjourn again at the start of August when the other half of the region goes away. Thoughts? |
