The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien - 8/10
Very well-written, detailed and sometimes disturbing, but great nonetheless. It gave me a new perspective on "war novels".

Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison - 5/10
BORING AS FUCK and very Maya Angelou-esque, in that it tries much too hard to say "This is an important BLACK STATEMENT and you must LISTEN TO MY WORDS!" The chapters are also terribly long, drawn-out and dull, but the story is at least believable.

At the moment I'm reading Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf and revisiting The Deathly Hallows by Rowling at the same time. I just finished One Hundred Years of Solitude by Garcia Marquez, truly one of the best books ever written.

So true! And I've only read the first half (twice - I somehow always get disturbed by something and forget all about it).

Watchmen by Alan Moore - 10/10
Seriously one of the best cartoons ever written/drawn. I love the idea of making superheroes more human and letting them deal with moral and personal issues. I'm looking forward to the movie. It looks as if they've changed NOTHING.

I'm reading the 2nd of Trudi Canavan's Black Magician trilogy. Really good stuff!

Previous to that was probably Niel Gaiman's American Gods. Fucking amazing so it was! And I couldn't get into another book for about 2 months after reading it because it seemed to blast this big hole in my brain!

I'm reading The Master by Colm Toibin which is quite slow moving. It's very well written though.

Mr Tickle - R. Hargreaves.

9/10

Brilliant plot, well paced, well written and stunning observational humour about a disabled man and his struggle to fit in with society.

Watchmen 10/10

Currently reading Absolute Sandman volume 1.

I've never really gotten into comic books, but a good friend in Canada insisted I read these and he was right. I loved Watchmen and Sandman is phenomenal.

Absolutely. There is a chapter (4 I think) about how time passes for Dr. Manhattan using a photograph falling from his hand on Mars. I think it is BRILLIANTLY written. I went back and reread that chapter twice.

I'm currently reading "Dumb Witness" by Agatha Christie. It's a Hercule Poirot one. Loving it! It's a gorgeous facsimilie edition too. The covers are so beautiful.
