No idea. I love "Bourgeois", but I don't think it'll do anything for the album. "Thursday" at least had a chance.

Perhaps "Thursday" will be next up, but if I was them I'd have struck while the iron was lukewarm, not freezing.

Yeah. "Bourgeois" is my fave track on the album, but not a single at all. Maybe in 1988, but not now.

even more frustrating than the choice of bourgeois as the next single is the decision to hold it back till september. why wait for another month and a half when vocal did not even manage to enter the top 200? the album needs aggressive marketing from this point on, otherwise it could be out of the charts by mid august. they should just release as many singles as possible to test if anything actually sticks with the public - it's not like they need to print physical copies or film proper videos... anyways, i hope thursday is gonna be pushed as a single right after bourgeois, though it'll probably be too late for it to have a decent shot at any sort of commercial success.

I completely agree! Niche acts like PSB are now can't afford to wait ages between single releases, especially when the current single isn't even charting. It's ridiculous.

In the US, the album will be PSB's highest peak since 1993, and the opening week is higher than Elysium's first two weeks combined.

Pet Shop Boys Earn Highest Charting Album in Nearly 20 Years

The band's "Electric" lands at No. 26 on the Billboard 200, their best bow since 1993's "Very."

Pet Shop Boys have made an "Electric" return to the Billboard 200 chart.

The veteran pop/dance duo scores its highest charting album in nearly 20 years this week, as its new "Electric" debuts at No. 26 on the Billboard 200. They last went nigher with 1993's "Very," which debuted and peaked at No. 20 on the Oct. 23, 1993 chart. Only three PSB albums have gone higher than "Electric" -- "Very," 1987's "Actually" (No. 25) and 1986's "Please" (No. 7).

In other good news, "Electric's" debut sales week -- 11,000 -- surpasses the first-week bow of its last release, 2012's "Elysium" (7,000).

"Electric" is the act's first independently-released album, and was issued through its own x2 label, via Kobalt Label Services. In the United States, Pet Shop Boys had previously released albums through an array of different labels: EMI, Atlantic, Parlophone/London-Sire, Sanctuary, Rhino and Astralwerks.

The new album was produced by Stuart Price and has also spun off the hit single "Vocal." The track rises 31-25 on the Dance/Club Play Songs chart this week, and is Pet Shop Boys' 37th Dance hit.

Here's a look at all of Pet Shop Boys' charting albums on the Billboard 200 chart, and where they peaked:

Release Year, Title, Peak Position

1986, Please, No. 7
1986, Disco, No. 95
1987, Actually, No. 25
1988, Introspective, No. 34
1990, Behavior, No. 45
1991, Discography – Complete Singles Collection, No. 111
1993, Very, No. 20
1994, Disco 2, No. 75
1995, Alternative, No. 103
1996, Bilingual, No. 39
1999, Nightlife, No. 84
2002, Release, No. 73
2003, Disco 3, No. 188
2006, Fundamental, No. 150
2009, Yes, No. 32
2012, Elysium, No. 44
2013, Electric, No. 26

it's insane the likes of actually and introspective both peaked outside the top20 in america. i thought they were quite big overseas during the 80s.

The album fell from #2 to #28 this week in the UK and yet they're waiting until September to release the (wrong)single.

*sigh*

Some good news!

Pet Shop Boys
The new Pet Shop Boys single ‘Love is a bourgeois construct’ has gone straight on to the A-list at BBC Radio 2! This mean regular plays of the song will start from tomorrow.

I'm not really sure how much of an impact Radio 2 has these days unless an album is prominent in supermarkets.

Alison Moyet's last single was B-listed on Radio 2 for a few weeks, and it had fuck all impact on "the minutes" because the supermarkets didn't stock it. Sad to say, but it's that kind of passing "oh, that sounded nice on the wireless yesterday" trade that makes the difference to "heritage" acts.

I have always been shocked at PSB's low chart positions on the US album chart, considering they have had some high charting singles. That said, if you have a sustained seller in the US, you don't necessarily need to have a high chart position to do well. Annie Lennox's "Diva" only peaked at 23, but sold over a million.
