Star Trek was never the kind of thing that would appeal to me (have never really been into sci-fi), but I have a particular blind spot about this series.

My old flat mate was the chairman of the Scottish Star Trek Association (I know, but it gets sadder), and the "board" used to have their meetings in our living room. I walked in one day to offer them all a cup of tea, expecting them all to be talking earnestly about Spock ... Instead they all had their tops off and were massaging each other.

You've seen the average sci-fi fan boy (and girl)? They're not bonnie!

The scars are still with me all these years later.
:lmao: Best story ever!

Having said that, I'm not sure I've *ever* enjoyed a movie that Ron Howard directed.
Never a truer word spoken.

Oh, I loved "The Paper".

But can't think of anything else of his that I didn't consider punishment.

OH MY GOD.

That made me spit out my last Minstrel laughing so much. It's now on the floor, sticky and carpety.

Stu went to the Star Trek premier to cover the red carpet for me, and says two of the members of the Scottish Star Trek Association were there with him!

No massaging though.

god, that's still making me laugh, James.

Oh, it gets better. My old flatmate resigned as the Chairman because of the pressure of the position (am not sure if this was massage-related) ... and the rest of the "board" tried to sue him for breach of "spiritual contract". A lawyer's letter arrived and everything!

To put this into context, this is a FAN group. It would be like River trying to sue Topaz for slander!

Nutcases!

I remember when my flat mate came back from the cinema after watching "Galaxy Quest". He was ASHEN because he knew that's exactly what the world thought of them!

Even if this film were awful, it has a built in audience that would make it a success in monetary terms.

So Tick Tock, you're wrong. get over it.

It will make a decent amount of money, but it's not going to break records. "Star Trek" should be able to make billions, but this turd won't. It's 90210 + JJ Abrams, who turns everything he touches into CGI shit. He's overused.

"Angels and Demons" is the most anticipated film of the summer. I would not be surprised if it knocks "Star Trek" from the top spot, which it will have its first week, undoubtedly.

"Star Trek" is released this week.
"Angels and Demons" next week.

Up to 95% now. Just 4 negative reviews out of 75. I think there's only one or two more reviews to come in.

I'm seeing it after work today! :alexz:
