Ford Says: Indy 5 in "Primary Stages"

While Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull divided the Indy fan base, it was a huge box office success. So, in Hollywood where they know how to make lightning strike twice, thrice and as many sequels as they can get, it looks like Indiana Jones will not be closing the door just yet. In an interview with MTV News, the Man with the Hat, himself, Harrison Ford does confirm that work is in its "primary" stages on a fifth big screen adventure for Indiana Jones.

MTV: Is a fifth "Indiana Jones" film inevitable?
Ford: "I don't know. If we come up with a good idea..."

MTV: Is the ball in George Lucas' court at this point?
Ford: "It is. That's the process. With some general input, he goes off and searches for the MacGuffin [Ed. note: That's the plot device that propels the story, i.e. the Ark] and then stumbles into a story. And at some point, we have a chance to take a look at it and give some input."

MTV: And he hasn't found the MacGuffin yet?
Ford: "No, we're still in the primary stages."

MTV: The end of the last film leaves your character in a very intriguing position. He has a wife and a kid. Can he still be that man of adventure with those commitments?
Ford: "And he's seen something. Remember those are the only witnesses to what he's seen. That's kind of interesting."

MTV: James Bond is a franchise that's figured out how to ably switch between actors. If, in 50 years, they find another man to play Indiana Jones, would that sit all right with you?
Ford: "The very simple addition of numbers would make it clear that in 50 years I will not give a sh-- at all. I will so not care."

MTV: Well what if you knew today that someone else would wear the hat one day?
Ford: "Fifty years from now, they can do anything they want."

Not necessarily, we do have some common ground - usually one in every 20 films/ singles/ albums we will agree on!

I hope Ford has the dignity to play only a supporting role in the new movie.

That would be DREADFUL. Unless he's Indiana Jones and the main character, they shouldn't bother making another one. He looked fine in this one and people love him in the role.

They shouldn't make another one because this one bombed, the franchise is over. I'm sorry, I know you love Indiana Jones and all. But this was just pathetic. They need to move on. I actually feel bad for Harrison. Who the fuck wants to see that little Shia turd, take over the franchise, because that is the direction they want to go in.

Are you on drugs?

It "bombed"?? It's the second-highest grossing movie in the world this year, with takings of $786m. DVD sales will push that figure to well over 1 billion.

What a flop! :lmao:

Honey, it was #1 at least in America, for one week, and then was thrown over for Sex and the City. Give me a break.

Nothing was going to beat Batman.

Indiana got killed by the critics and fans alike.

It was an embarrassment. I know you're a fangurl, but the film for how much it cost, was a disaster. Fangurls thought it was going to be Titanic's record and be the biggest film of all time. :lmao:

Harrison's going to be on a walker.

A 76% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.com and $768m worldwide gross is a huge achievement, especially given the weight of expectation it had. Of course there were the people who didn't like it, but those figures speak for themselves. It hung around the Top 10 in both the US and the UK for months.

Please cease and desist from taking utter shite.

I can't cease from taking a shit. That's nature.

Indiana quickly fell out of the top 10 and it wasn't there for "months."

The point is, there's nothing left to do. There's no point. It's not going to make some enormous amount of money, breaking records in movie history. Its star is about to die. They were simply doing it for the money to begin with. There are no more stories. If you want the Shia franchise, then jump up and down. That's all they have left to toy with. It just doesn't have a point anymore, and even though it's not some "deep" piece of cinema, I'd like to say that it's losing its integrity by continuing, if it does so. You just need to move on. The film got what it did because people wanted to reclaim a piece of their childhood. In the US, after one week, people were more than happy to either not reclaim it, or throw it away completely. You can't remake the franchise. Indiana is a product of the 80s. Any time you have Lucas or Spielberg attached to a "revival," run the other way. They just love fucking everything up. Who wants an CGI, alien, refrigerator, or whatever the fuck it turned out to be the film. I'm tired of people selling out. It's not aimed at you personally. I just see this shit happening a lot. I must admit that the fangurls were hilarious to read on IMDB. They ranted and raved before its premiere that this was going to be "Casablanca". Then it drowned and they went batshit (no pun in there).

I know Harrison needs to the money to not feed Calista.

While I disagree with your opinion of this movie itself, I do actually agree with a lot of what you say. I think George Lucas has utterly lost the plot and totally needs to be reined in. The only reason that the movie is as good as it was is probably down to the relatively sane and sensible Spielberg and Ford. I still think it was a hugely enjoyable movie though. Those box office figures do NOT indicate that it was a one-weekend event movie. That is simply not the case.

By the way, I think it spent 8 weeks in the US Top 10, therefore it's quite correct to say that it spent "months" inside the Top 10.

I'm not sure of the figure, but I know that it drew away from public view very quickly in the US.

I loved the fangurls on IMDB though. They were bashing Batman, then after its success, they were calling for Nolan to direct the next Indiana Jones movie. lmao.

If they're so obsessed, the makers, with Indiana Jones, just go and make a television series. You can do all kinds of weak shit that would end up normally getting bashed if it were to be put onto the big screen. They want more CGI, and they want to turn it into the Shia series, and turn it in a movie that ten-year-olds will be drawn into see, dumbing it down even more. Like I said, its all about money, and anytime a person comes along to revive a franchise, you can just hear the ca-ching of the cash registers ringing. Harrison was not going to do it if his payday wasn't right. It's just a mess now. When the first movies were made, there was an organic tone. It came from its era. You can't recreate that. I know they are just sticking around in hopes to get the kiddies interested by marketing more of their bullshit in cereal boxes.
