I watched it last week. It's good. Toni is amazing. However, the show can go either way now. That was the pilot. Either it gets better, or it just sinks and is atrocious. |

Well, you can say that about anything. I do wonder where it will go It's described as a comedy drama I think (not the laugh out loud humour though) and Toni is a mum who has split personalities.... drama ensues.... Im looking forward to the next episode! |

It's a dramedy. It was the pilot though. They begin to tweak and make changes after that. That's what I was getting at. Showtime has the fucking amazing, Tracey Ullman, who does multiple characters, and now Toni. Good thing that one is a sketch comedy, and this is a dramedy. People are already bitching that United States of Tara is making fun of Dissociative Personality Disorder, DPD. I think it doesn't make light on it at all. They show just how emotionally fragile she is before she splits off. Yes, the alters are funny, but I don't think it makes light of anything actually. Tracey Ullman got flack for saying that she gets paid for being a schizophrenic. I think people need to lighten up about mental disorders. Unless they're full on mocking them, they need to have a sense of humor like Carrie Fisher, who's Bipolar and is hilarious about it, while also talking about the tragedy of the disease. I do understand the concern people have though. I don't think many watched the episode, or at least watched with an open mind. The son does come out as gay. Edited by TickTock, Jan 19 2009, 01:20 AM.

No I certainly don't think it makes light of DPD either! But you know what 'people' are like.... if there's something to possibly write a letter about then they'll do it. Yeah the alters are funny like you say, but it is sensitive to Tara, to her family and how other people view her. I'd also say a spin is given not just for the disorder but looking into a reflection of society (pressures, kids bla bla) Haha great about the son and woo for him kicking the shit out of that twat with the dumb lights on his car!Do we know when the next ep is being aired? |

Well, it's once a week. So if it premiered this weekend, then the next one will be next weekend. I saw the pilot two weeks ago. It was released early on cable, on their OnDemand service, where you can watch programs whenever you wish. Perhaps they'll premiere the second episode early as well. I'll let you know if that happens. |

I just saw the second episode. The show has a proper opening now. Tara turns into alter, Alice, the perfect homemaker. |

This was OnDemand. So unless someone records it from their cable service, I don't think it'll be up right away. The press get packets that usually contain DVDs with the entire series in them for review. They're tagged with codes so that if someone leaks them to the internet, they can be traced as to who did it. However, if you use DVD decrypter, it removes any protection that was written onto the DVD. No one's going to upload those. It'll say stuff like, "courtesy of Showtime". I wish I got my hands on a packet for this one. If I find episode 2, I'll let you know! |
