Things aren't looking good for Ugly Betty's future

Things are looking pretty gloomy for Ugly Betty.

In a just-announced Thursday night scheduling tweak, ABC is benching Betty beginning March 26 and replacing it with episodes of Samantha Who? and the new Megan Mullally-Cheryl Hines comedy In the Motherhood. The network's release concludes by saying, "Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?"

After crunching the numbers, that puts Betty's return (provided Sam Who/Motherhood don't tank) sometime around (gulp) June -- a.k.a. outside the regular season. Now, granted, Betty hasn't exactly been killing it in the ratings this season, but it's still one of ABC's signature shows. At least I thought it was.

"The Thursday night block is a good opportunity to launch these comedies," counters an ABC spokesperson. "That said, Betty is a solid performer and there is no question that it will definitely be back to complete its season, just without repeats."

But when will it be back? The net's not saying, and that's the part that has me worried. Do you share my concern? Or is there a silver lining here that I'm just not seeing?

I loved the show but lost interest in it fairly quickly. I am surprised that it's doing so badly already, it's only getting 7-8 million a week

I don't think it ever got HUUUGE numbers, but it did really well first season. Since then it's been sliding slowly. I loved it at first, but lost interest after a while. It just got *too* silly and out there. I preferred it when it was still ever-so-slightly based in reality.

The second series started off quite strongly, but it was almost as if the writers' strike sapped it. When it came back, it was a shadow of itself. (And Justin;'s voice was a far deeper shadow of its former self!)

Not seen any of the third series yet. The second series had some bloody hilarious moments, though. While I want to vote for Amanda's "Milkshake", I think I need to go for the double whammy of Willie trapping Betty White's hand in the car door, quickly followed by "Some queens have already made a dance track of it and stuck it on You Tube!"

"I'm Wilhelmina Slater. I don't get wet ... don't get wet ... don't get wet ... "

Yeah, a lot of the comedy remained excellent, but the plots really went downhill after the strike. Tis a shame.

Losing Rebecca Romijn wasn't good for the show either. I didn't blame her for leaving, turning her into a villain was a bad idea.

Oh, I didn't realise that she had left.

I'm sooooo out of the "Betty" loop!

 I didn't know that either!

I reckon she jumped before the ship sank.

Rebecca left very early into this season. Chris Gorham has also left the show.
